Fans of acclaimed author Kendare Blake’s Anna Dressed in Blood will devour Three Dark Crowns, a dark and inventive fantasy about three sisters who must fight to the death to become queen. And don't miss the highly anticipated sequel, One Dark Throne!

In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.

Be sure to catch the stunning sequel to this New York Times bestseller, One Dark Throne.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenomenal This novel is soon to be one of my favourite and cherished books! The plot was dark and alluring and was very well written. Each page or chapter had me captivated because it was all cliffhangers. One thing that I didn't like was that the beginning was confusing and whenever the plot would get intense and amusing it would change perspective and you would have to wait for the next chapter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Didn't Love It, But Enjoyed It While I enjoyed this book, I didn't go crazy over it like I thought I would. At times it's really captivating, and others it's really simple and boring. With the concept, I feel like more could have been done with the characters and the story

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! Three sisters must fight to the death. The winner, becomes queen until her own triplets are born. Three Dark Crowns is a story about Katherine the poisoner, Mirabella the elemental, and Arsinoe the naturalist. Honestly, I loved this book with all my heart. I was so scared because I read the synopsis, loved the book and bought it online, while it was shipping I read some bad reviews for it and was very scared that I bought this book and it would suck. I'm very happy to say that I'm so glad I bought a copy because the book was everything I love, I cannot wait for the next one to be released. Usually when there are three main characters, you pick your favourite and kind of skip over the other main character's parts. At least that is what I usually do. For Three Dark Crowns I could not pick my favourite character (well I'm kind of leaning towards Arsinoe atm but they're still really close). Every Queen is so very different, yet they're all loveable in their own way. Katherine starts off as the anorexic little weakling, not having her poisoner powers come in yet she is basically tortured every day. Once she meets and falls in love with Pietyr she instantly starts growing as a character. Her character development throughout the book is absolutely amazing, I loved watching her develop into such a strong woman. Mirabella is the sweetheart. Even though she's the most powerful of the three sisters, she feels great remorse knowing that she has to kill her siblings. Mira is the only one of the three sisters that has memories of their past, back to when they were 6 years old and lived together. While some view her emotion as a weakness, I think it makes her incredibly strong emotionally. Also I believe she is the smartest of the three sisters and I definitely admire her for it. Arsinoe is the wild one. She is outdoorsy and doesn't give af about her looks. Arsinoe is extremely likeable, she just has that aura around her that makes everyone like her. While she has no powers yet, she keeps working towards them on her own and never ceases to try. I loved her work ethic and her realism in this book. She knows she is weak, but she never stops trying to get better. The romance in this book was very fascinating. It was basically the only part of the book that really managed to surprise me (especially in the end). Having said that, there were parts of the book that I kind of predicted, and then told myself "nah that's not gonna happen" and then it happened. So I wasn't too shocked, I thought the author kind of made the twists obvious. I have a feeling what will happen in the books to come, so I hope the author can throw in some curve balls. The world building was really great as well. We get to see the three town the queens are staying in, as well as a few places here and there. The author was very descriptive and did a fantastic job creating a new world. Overall, I loved this book from beginning to end and I absolutely cannot wait for the next one. I highly recommend it to other people who love fantasy. Take my word for it, just because a book has a few bad reviews doesn't mean you won't love it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Boring and Overrated Full review here: https://www.allcharacterswanted.com/book-reviews/book-review-three-dark-crowns-by-kendare-blake Wow, I did not like this book. There were some parts that I thought were ok, but overall I wasn't a fan of the characters, the "plot twists" they have to overcome, and - in general - the story itself. It seems like this book is being talked about everywhere, so I was surprised by how unimpressed I was with it. ou would think that a book based on a mystical world filled with magic where three sisters are preparing to kill each other would have some epic adventures along the way. Not so. We have Mirabella randomly deciding to run away, only to save someone from drowning and decide that having sex with him will save him from hypothermia. And then, surprise! He's the love interest of a different character. Of course he is. We then have to read as they sleep together twice, him returning to Jules, beginning forgiveness...and then later have sex with Mirabella again! (I hope it's clear how useless I think Joseph is. Such an awful character.) God, this book was awful and I only gave it 3 stars because of Arisone and Billy's relationship being the books saving grace. This book did not live up to the hype for me. I have the sequel and I'll be reading it (because a series should never be left unfinished), but so far I'm really not falling for this series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High-stakes, murderously dark The Nitty-Gritty: I love high-stakes, murderously dark fantasy, and Kendare Blake delivered. The world that she built was incredibly vivid (which is quite a feat when switching back and forth between three different points of view). The characters she created were complex and incredibly flawed. The politics of Fennbirn were fascinating. And the magic had rules (I love me some good magic rules). My only issue – the only thing that kept this from being a five-star book – was the plot twist. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good plot twist. I just hate it when I call the plot twist 50 pages into the story. I distinctly remember asking myself, “Wait, why has no one considered this possibility?” And then the plot twist came and I was like, “Ah, yes, exactly what I was considering at page 50.” It was one of those things where if I was doing a read-along, and I had mentioned my question, it would have ruined the book for everyone who was doing the read-along with me. I like feeling smart when I’m reading a story, but this was too easy to call. That being said, I loved that I developed an attachment to each of the sisters. I find that in these stories where characters are headed for death, or are required to kill each other, I tend to pick my favourites, or at least start rooting for one over the others. But I found myself rooting for whichever sister’s chapter I was reading at that moment. Arsinoe, Katherine, and Mirabella were all so different and fascinating, and I didn’t want to have to watch any of them die. I found the political system so unfair, and I was rooting for revolution the entire story – I got invested. The Verdict: Three Dark Crowns is an excellent addition to the YA Fantasy canon, and I cannot wait to get my hands on One Dark Throne.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a really unique tale full of twists This was one story I really enjoyed. Unique with three strong main characters, each with her own charms and shortcomings, I was hooked from the start. Just when I would start rooting for one sister to win and become the next Queen Crowned, my sympathies would shift to one of the others. With stakes already high, knowing that only one sister can be queen but also that her sisters who lose the crown will also lose their lives kept the suspense and tension high right to the end of the book. This is a really unique tale full of twists and just when you think there will be a resolution, you end up finishing the book craving for what will come next. Good thing there is One Dark Throne for you start on as soon as you're finished!
