Thug Kitchen started their wildly popular web site to inspire people to eat some Goddamn vegetables and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Beloved by Gwyneth Paltrow ("This might be my favorite thing ever") and named Saveur's Best New Food Blog of 2013 - with half a million Facebook fans and counting - Thug Kitchen wants to show everyone how to take charge of their plates and cook up some real f*cking food.

Yeah, plenty of blogs and cookbooks preach about how to eat more kale, why ginger fights inflammation, and how to cook with microgreens and nettles. But they are dull or pretentious as hell - and most people can't afford the hype.

Thug Kitchen lives in the real world. In their first cookbook, they're throwing down more than 100 recipes for their best-loved meals, snacks, and sides for beginning cooks to home chefs. (Roasted Beer and Lime Cauliflower Tacos? Pumpkin Chili? Grilled Peach Salsa? Believe that sh*t.) Plus they're going to arm you with all the info and techniques you need to shop on a budget and go and kick a bunch of ass on your own.

This book is an invitation to everyone who wants to do better to elevate their kitchen game. No more ketchup and pizza counting as vegetables. No more drive-thru lines. No more avoiding the produce corner of the supermarket. Sh*t is about to get real.

The Thug Kitchen crew is an L.A.-based duo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great cookbook Great book to start off and get introduced to Vegan cooking, but I found a lot of the recipes were repeating the ingredients, which was good if you want to get every bang for your groceries but would want different flavours!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from entertaining book i love this book it's funny and makes it fun to cook
Date published: 2018-09-07
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Unpretentious, Inexpensive, Absolutely Delicious My family has loved basically every recipe I have tried from this book. Unlike some vegan cookbooks, it doesn't waste time on expensive, pretentious ingredients and preparations. Simple, tasty, healthy food. Yeah, the cussing gets a little tiring, but I can overlook that schtick for the excellent food.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this cookbook! We received this cookbook as a gift a couple of years ago, and truthfully we had cooked a few recipes from it before realizing that the whole thing is vegan! Every recipe turns out successfully and is delicious. We love it so much we bought all the other 'Thug Kitchen' books. Although there are some specialized ingredients, they are easy to swap out for something else that you might be more familiar with. ie. use tofu instead of tempeh if you don't have tempeh at your local store, or parmesan cheese instead of nutritional yeast if you don't like the taste of nooch, etc. The book does a great job of explaining what certain ingredients are and where you can find them in the store.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very different cookbook I swear worst than a sailor, so it was right up my alley!! The recipes I have tried were delicious. The lasagna with tofu ricotta was amazing!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Some great recipes And a lot you won't bother making. Not the easiest recipes but always nice to have veggie options.
Date published: 2018-07-17
Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was okay Nothing really new here..................but if you don't already have a 'vegetarian' based cookbook, then this is a good place to start.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOWZA Seriously, finally a book that made me venture out of chili, burgers and pasta and start making my body and mind feel better! Thank you thug kitchen!!
Date published: 2018-07-12
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not too many recipes This book fails in comparison to my other vegan cookbooks. It doesn't have too many recipes and some of them are so basic that you don't really need a recipe for it imo.
Date published: 2018-07-11
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny An edgy way to look at food and cooking. It is a fun read and even the least inclined to cooking will take a look through this book. I think everyone can use this in their cookbook collection to add a different flavor.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay The rhetoric is a bit nonchalant but I only appreciate good cooking.
Date published: 2018-05-30
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great intro to vegan food without the hassel I really appreciated this booj for many reasons. The recipes were simple, easy and with ingredient I could easily find here in Northern Ontario. The recipe I have made so far are delicious and not too time consuming. If you don't know where to start on your journey for better nutrition, this is it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the swears I bought this because a co-worker brings in his thug kitchen cooking all the time and most of the time it tastes delicious! However, I only find that I only want to make about 1 in 10 recipes which is pretty low for me. Normally I love to cook my way through a cookbook. Regardless, I have liked all the recipes I've tried.
Date published: 2018-04-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from good as f*** everyone should own this cookbook. i feel like it is an essential in my life of cooking. the recipes are great but honestly just reading the recipes can make my day because they are so funny!
Date published: 2018-04-03
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Food I got this as a gift and I am not even vegan. I must say so many of the recipes appeal to even non vegans who just want to eat a bit healthier.
Date published: 2018-03-28
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty good! I've made a couple of things from this cookbook and have mostly enjoyed them. I'd like a book that isn't recreating comfort classics, or dumping a bunch of stuff in a bowl... Keep 'em coming!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Kept Secret! A good cookbook to have around. A good cookbook to use when you want to get the family more involved.
Date published: 2018-03-07
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Basic recipes Nothing new here. I returned my copy. Don't get me wrong.....I did not find it offensive; just kind of dull. But the recipes that are good are really good. Just not enough of them in here for me to keep the book.
Date published: 2018-02-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Packs a punch! Highly recommend this cookbook for vegan and meat-eaters alike! Great, easy to make recipes, delivered in a humorous way and sure to please a crowd! Just make sure you don't let your little ones read out the recipe when you're cooking as if you haven't already guessed from the title of the book, it is quite vulgar.
Date published: 2018-02-21
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great way of adding more vegetables into meals. Delicious vegan cuisine made easy. The flavours make you regret ever calling a vegetable boring. The only flaw is some of the recipes do not have a photo with them, which I prefer, but the recipes are so good - I'm willing to overlook these small lapses.
Date published: 2018-02-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Offers good cooking tips as well as great recipe ideas Thug Kitchen might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's meant to be irreverent and funny. This cookbook still manages to give you both great tips for someone who might be new to cooking as well as delicious vegan meal ideas.
Date published: 2018-02-12
Rated 4 out of 5 by from So funny! This cookbook is fantastic. A lot of the recipes are very "beginner oriented" and simple, which is fantastic. I'm not a vegetarian but I have an egg intolerance and my boyfriend has a dairy intolerance so vegan recipes are a lifesaver. The book itself is hilarious. I took off a star because I prefer when cookbooks have nutritional information.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent, Straightforward, Delicious I borrowed this book from a friend when I challenged myself to eat vegetarian for the better part of a month, and now I'm committed to being a "weekday vegetarian", because this book opened a world of possibilities for me! (And I'm buying my own copy to keep in my kitchen.) The instructions are all easy to follow, and I think there's something for everyone in it. The list of essential tools for the kitchen and pantry staples list are also a great reference. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very entertaining This cookbook is a great introduction to vegan cooking! The recipes are delicious and the text that goes along with the pictures is super witty.
Date published: 2017-11-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Entertaining Very entertaining read. I feel that you do need some experience before tackling on some of the recipes. I was ok with this since I know a little bit about some of the basics. Book talks a lot about e vegetarian cooking. This is fine by me.
Date published: 2017-11-23

Date published: 2017-11-16
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very entertaining and helpful Such an entertaining cookbook! Really helped me get into cooking more veggie dishes.
Date published: 2017-11-13
Rated 3 out of 5 by from "Food so good we swear by it" Thug Kitchen's memes crack me up (and are fill of accurate nutritional information) so I decided to get the book. In the introduction, they say "Cooking isn't f@%$ing rocket science" which is generally true, but this book is not necessarily great for a beginner cook. While technically it doesn't requiring special skills, many of the recipes are a bit complicated, and you need to be good as multi-tasking (blanching, sauteing and making a sauce from scratch simultaneously) In summary: Has a great introduction which explanations of tools, ingredients, especially of ingredients that are not particularly familiar to non-vegans (millet, miso paste etc). Look through the recipes. It's a vegan cookbook, so it's somewhat grain-heavy, and you will need nut milks, maple syrup, beans etc. There are a lot of recipes for breakfasts all the way to dinners You don't necessarily have to follow each recipe, you can always use it as a reference guide for different flavor profiles, spice combinations, cooking methods etc.
Date published: 2017-11-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A unique take on cooking Amazing! Not only is this book entertaining to read but it also teaches you the essentials of buying, cooking, and planning. Like a friend passing along the tips and tricks of the culinary world. So good that even my dad enjoyed it!
Date published: 2017-11-03
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love the kobo version I really use a lot of these recipes in my everyday life. Ever since a member of my family changed to a plant based diet- this book has really helped me.
Date published: 2017-11-02
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cleverly written I enjoyed this book and how frank it is. It's Not very often you can learn some new recipes and laugh with the author. Lots of interesting tips and tricks too.
Date published: 2017-11-02
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny and delicious Great twist on cookbooks and vegetarian food. It's like vegetarian comfort food for everyone. Even the pickiest of eaters will find something they'll Love! I bring it to pot luck parties when I bring a dish I make from the book. Everyone gets a kick out of it and some great ideas to Boot!
Date published: 2017-11-01
Rated 2 out of 5 by from You'll like this if you like vegan comfort food. I've used this book just a couple of times. I prefer healthier plant-based food vs. comfort plant based food so that is probably why. The recipes are simple and easily modified but lacking variety (so many tacos?!) and not every recipe has a picture. Just my preferences!
Date published: 2017-10-09
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best. Cookbook. EVER! This is the most amazing cookbook I have ever set eyes on. It's not only a cookbook - it's entertainment, too! #plumreview

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not my favourite cookbook Received as a gift ages ago, looked through it all and have hardly ever picked it up again. Some recipes looked good but I would have to purchase so many specific ingredients I don't normally have that always turn to other cookbooks on my shelf.
Date published: 2017-09-27

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cookbook Hilarious cookbook. It sticks well to its theme, which can only be described as a certain amount of shock value to accompany some really great food. Have made multiple recipes so far, and would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone - vegetarian, or otherwise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Vegan delight I really like this cookbook, but living in rural Canada it can often be hard to find some of the more specialty items. The recipes are pretty easy and all super tasty. Definitely a strong Southern California influence, lots of Mexican style foods. The enchiladas are my go-to dish to bring to a potluck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thuggin' Love This is such a fun read with every word. Each recipe is vegetable based but I don't see why some couldn't add in meat if they really wanted to. The recipes are easy and, for the most part, use simple ingredients that you already have in your kitchen. I would highly recommend this cookbook to any vegans out there. I would also recommend this cookbook to all non-vegans who want to eat a little healthier and try some great plant-based recipes!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A crowdpleaser! I recommended this book to a friend for Secret Santa - this was the present that everyone (guys and girls) were fighting over. Yes this book has a lot of swearing, and yes, it is hilarious. I own the Party Grub version and literally laugh out loud as i'm recipe-browsing.
Date published: 2017-03-07
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comical + Fun Recipes This cookbook is fun to just flip through and read! Fun recipes that don't scream 'vegan'.. I would say it's a great cookbook for those who don't necessarily follow a vegan diet all the time, but are looking to explore in their cooking and are open to vegan friendly dishes. The only thing I wish this book (and the other Thug Kitchen cookbooks) would improve on is their photography.. but perhaps that is part of their look.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another Family Go-To Cookbook I really like this book. Every recipe I've made has been excellent (especially the Flautas!), and I love the witty profanity scattered throughout the pages. My only complaint is that some of the recipes are very heavy on oil and unnecessary fats. So just be wary of that, and enjoy your veggies!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not for me the recipes are okay but the language is somewhat excessive and takes away from it. i'd much rather stick with angela liddon's books.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Thug Cooking This cookbook has some good recipes and photos but every second word is a curse and it really starts to get annoying. I thought it took away from the recipes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from For someone who is intimidated by cooking This book is as hilariously entertaining as it is helpful. The recipes are great and the content keeps you smiling as you cook your food. I would highly recommend this for anyone who is apprehensive about cooking as a way to feel the realness and simplicity of how preparing food can be. I have gifted this book to 3 of my friends and they have all enjoyed it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favourite Cookbook! Every recipe I've tried from this book so far has turned out amazing! I typically cook with my omnivore partner and he has loved them all as well. I would definitely recommend this book to others, whether they are vegan, omnivore, or somewhere in between.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great recipes #plumreview Great original recipes but definitely not a recipe book you can make with stuff that is naturally in the pantry. A trip to the grocery store to buy ingredients you've never heard of is a must

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good recipes Lots of tasty recipes but almost all of them use soy sauce or tamari which gets a bit boring. The book is fun to flip through!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun! I've never been a big fan of cookbooks, nevermind a vegetarian cookbook, but I read this thing cover-to-cover. Hilarious. A lot of fun to read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not kid friendly! I love this cookbook! It's entertaining to read and the recipes are healthy and delicious. The only drawback is my daughter can't help me with the recipes because she loves to read cookbooks while we cook.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious and Delicious! The recipes are so delicious that I don't even miss all the takeout that used that make up my diet. Plus the authors really have a way with words!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 3.5 Stars Lots of swearing (don't use this book with your kids, folks.) That didn't bother me at first but eventually it stops being amusing and is just annoying. The recipes are good but most don't come with pictures. For me it is very important for cookbooks to have LOADS of pictures. Preferably a picture for each recipe. It's a good cookbook but it's not for everyone. I don't recommend it to people who aren't already vegan. It's funny but it's not inspiring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Had me in stitches Very enjoyable read. I have made many of the recipes and the Creamy Black Bean Dip basically comes with us to every potluck and receives many compliments. The book also gave me a lot more confidence in the kitchen and inspired me to expand my knowledge of vegan cooking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mind Blowing! I bought this for my boyfriend, and he enjoys it so much! He's not one to ever admit he needs to use a cookbook for a new recipe.. but this was one exception for him. He even shows his friends how cool the book is! The recipes are SO tasty, vegetarian or not you can always add meat to the dishes - keep that in mind! This book is perfect for your food loving guy (or gal!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique in multiple ways! I'm still as amused by this cookbook as I was the first time I saw it years ago. I like that it's vegetarian and gives different options outside of what I would usually consider eating. I'm sure you could easily add meat to any of these meals if you really wanted to, but I'm really interested in trying them as intended. The humour throughout the book is golden. Definitely my kind of cooking!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Spin on Cooking I received this as a gift and loved every second of it. Caters to a vegatarian/ vegan cuisine, you can do a lot with this and the recipes make huge portions that last a long time when cooking for two! All of them are really tasty, and really fun to read the process of cooking since the book is basically angrily telling you how to do anything!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yum This cookbook has opened up my taste buds on how to use vegetables in new and surprisingly tasty ways. There are lots of helpful tips and suggestions throughout. No regrets. Although when recommending a recipe to your mother, you miiiight want to censor a little!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! As a vegetarian, friends and family tend to be skeptical of the meals I make and I usually get the comment "it was good but it's missing meat" I've never had any complaints from the recipes in this book. Even my stepdad who thinks a meal consists of 2 meats minimum, loves the recipes in this book. To add to that, it will give you a good laugh. I've convinced many meat lovers to purchase this book and they have all loved it :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Every recipe I have tried, I have loved and I am quite a picky eater. The other lovely thing is that my fiancé eats meat and I don't, but he doesn't miss it with these meals. The burritos with peace salsa was sooooooo good especially during peach season....there can be a bit of prep involved, however it isn't difficult and always is delicious!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not one disappointing recipe I initially purchased this cookbook because I'd heard good things. I had NO idea it was a vegan cookbook. When I received it, I was a little skeptical, but tried it nonetheless. Well... after making several recipes, I have to say that not one has been a disappointment. Everything is delicious! One great thing is that they give substitutions if you can't find something making it that much more accessible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This has now become my favourite vegan cookbook of all time Okay, I am a cookbook addict. And I have pretty much every vegan cookbook ever published in some format. So when I was in the bookstore with my 17-year old daughter yesterday and she recommended this book I wasn't overly impressed. But I love to curse and the title really did appeal to me. I flipped through and was amused by the commentary throughout so I bought it (they had me at Carpe F*cking Diem - Breakfast). But this has now become my favourite vegan cookbook of all time (yes, even on the level of Veganomicon, which if you don't have it is the mother of all vegan cookbooks). I love the recipes in this book, the tips and hints, the simplicity and straight-forward approach. I've already pre-ordered their next book (Thug Kitchen Party Grub: For Social Motherf*ckers) and shipped another copy of this one to my son who is in college in Toronto. Now if you're easily offended you probably won't like this book. Which is too bad for you because the recipes are outstanding. If you can get past the colourful language and want to eat healthy - go buy this book. Personally I love everything about this book. Now I gotta go cook!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SOON Yummy!!! This is a fun book to look through. It's recipes are delicious and so worth the prep. They are also good enough to give you alternates and even tell you where in the grocery store you may find certain things you are not familiar with. I tried the burritos last night but did it in a bowl instead of a wrap and it was so lovely you don't need all the other stuff you usually add to a burrito or taco like cheese or sorcery/greek yogurt because the flavour and creaminess is there already.. These are very well rounded recipes and you won't miss the meat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME recipes All the recipes in the book that we tried turned out perfectly! I have never had a great time with Tofu until now...marinated and baked =YUMMY! black lentil tacos are a new favourite for us, the noodle bowl (with tofu), a few others that I can't remember. Easy to follow instructions. LOVE this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So good! I have been using their website for over a month now and I am so excited to be trying their cookbook. I am so glad that there are completely different recipes in the book than what is already shared on the site. Everything is easy to follow and I love the supplemental information that is given and the lists they give at the beginning of the book to allow for the most success. Not to mention, it is stinking hilarious! My family is definitely eating like they give a f*ck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this book! I love everything about this book! At face value, it's entertaining to read, but it's actually a very well done cookbook. The recipes are delicious, easy to make, and use normal ingredients that you can buy anywhere. I have loved everything I've made from this book! Highly recommend!
