At first my eyes wouldn't make sense of the letters. Finally, they unscrambled. Loving a Larger Woman, said the headline, by Bruce Guberman. Bruce Guberman had been my boyfriend for just over three years, until we'd decided to take a break three months ago. And the larger woman, I could only assume, was me.

Cannie Shapiro never wanted to be famous. The smart, sharp, plus-sized pop culture reporter was perfectly content writing about other people's lives on the pages of the Philadelphia Examiner. But the day she opens up a national women's magazine to find out that her ex-boyfriend has been chronicling their ex-sex life is the day her life changes forever.

Loving a larger woman is an act of courage in our world, Bruce has written. And Cannie -- who never knew that Bruce saw her as a "larger woman," or thought that loving her was an act of courage -- is plunged into misery, and into the most amazing year of her life.

For the previous twenty-eight years, things had been tripping along nicely for Cannie. Sure, her mother's come charging out of the closet, and her father's long since dropped out of her world. But she loves her job, her friends, her tiny rat terrier, Nifkin, and her life in Philadelphia. She loves her apartment, and her commodious, quilt-lined bed. She has made a tenuous peace with her non-size 6 body. And she'd even felt okay about ending her relationship with Bruce. But now this.

After finding herself publicly humiliated, with the most intimate details of her life in print, Cannie embarks on a series of hilarious and heartbreaking adventures. From showdowns with her snooping office nemesis to run-ins with her mother's less-than-lovable life partner, from trips to the glamour spots of New York City and Los Angeles to a disastrous reconciliation with the man who took her heart and tossed it onto the New Jersey Turnpike, Cannie navigates an odyssey she never planned on taking. She mourns her losses, faces the past, and figures out who she really is, and who she can become.

Radiant with wit, bursting with surprises, and written with bite and bittersweet humor, Jennifer Weiner's deliciously readable debut novel reaches beyond Cannie's story and into the heart of every woman. It features an unbelievably funny cast of supporting characters, the strangest dog you'll ever encounter, and, best of all, Cannie Shapiro -- a heroine you'll never forget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must read! I picked this up on a whim and am so glad I did! I am not a large girl myself, but I have many body insecurities. This book addressed many feelings I have had in my life, and added a bit of humour (in a good way) that was enjoyable to read. Easy to read and simply entertaining.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A lot of issues are dealt with 3.5 stars Cannie wanted to take a break from her 3 year relationship with Bruce. Until Bruce, a reporter/editorialist, writes about Cannie in the paper and describes what it's like to love a “larger” woman. Suddenly, Cannie is having some trouble dealing with this, as all her friends and family recognize that the article is about her. I actually did identify with Cannie for the first half of the book (at least with her emotions, but not necessarily her actions!), and because of that, I liked the first half of the book better. A lot of issues are dealt with in this book, which made it interesting, as well. Overall, I liked the book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautifully written and relateable This was the first book I read from Jennifer Weiner. I was not disappointed at all! I did find that in the middle there was a bit of unnecessary details but, the story sucks you in and I coudn't put this book down! The main character is relateable in so many different ways, and the relationships are very real stories. This was an incredible story, and cannot wait to pick up more from this author.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Oh my! This was an excellent read from the author of "In Her Shoes". The main character is so "normal", everybody can find a piece of themselves in her. I just couldn't put it down. It's funny and touching, and also has an unpredictable quality that's refreshing. Loved it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FANTASTIC I LOVED this book. It look a little time to draw me in, but once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. Between 'Good In Bed' and 'In Her Shoes', Jennifer Weiner has become one of my favorite new authors. Her characters are real, down to earth and very special. I cried the entire last third of the book... for an author to be able to create emotion like that is a very rare gift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome read! This was the first book that I read from this author and I was absolutely blown away! Funny, witty and very well written. I couldn't put it down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Book!! From the very first page of this book, I was swept in to Cannie's life and the many obstacles that would surely cross her path. I could absolutely not put it down... I needed to find out where her life would lead next. Not only is this book hilarious and charming, but it is also very serious and dramatic. At times it seemed her life could not get any better, but at others it seemed she had reached her lowest point possible and could not possibly escape the inevitable misery ahead. By the time I reached the end of the novel, I so wanted to continue following her journey and was upset that it was over. Overall, I really loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves to laugh but doesn't mind the odd cry either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing This is one amazing book. Jennifer Weinner really told a story about an average woman, with real problems. I read this book from cover to cover in just a few days. It left me wanting to here more about Cannie and what her next adventures through life will be like. If you ever felt that you did not fit into the societal norm, this book is for you. If you are a real woman this book is for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Empowerment This book is funny, touching, and something all women should read. It deals with body issues, and how unimportant it is to be a size 0.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than In Her Shoes.. After reading, In her Shoes and being disappointed I was a little leary of trying out another novel by Weiner. Why wasn't THIS book made into a movie?! The plot was so much better, much more humourus and I could not put it down. In Her Shoes was one of the worst reads ever in my opinion. Thankfully this novel makes up for it. This is a must read, and if you've ever been to weight watchers, jenny craig, or tried endless diets and felt alone - I found this a light hearted poke at some of the programs and also a little inspiring. I would have liked a little more explanation on the ending, but I still enjoyed it, ignore the poor reviews that were given. I'm very picky and was more than satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best This book was great. It was hilarious and touching and I found it hard to put down. Frankly, I am stunned at the few people who have given this book a bad review. It's a great book and Jennifer Weiner's second book is equally as satisfying!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious! I thought this book was one of the best books I have ever read. The storey was incredible and there were so many events that took place. It was an enjoyable read and very difficult to put down. Very unpredictable at some points which was nice. Good in bed will make you laugh outloud, cry, or just feel good about being an independent woman on your own!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from worst book I read this book because it was recommended to me and I have to say it was the worst book I have read to date. It was very unrealistic and slow. Not only that, it took forever for it to get to the point and in the end I'm not sure if the whole point of the book was told or even there. I would not recommend this book because of how unrealistic it was.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from started of good but quickly went DOWNHILL This book started out with a good idea and interesting beginning – but I couldn’t finish this sickly “candy” type of book that it ultimately ended up being. The main character Cannie spends much of the book whining about how hard her life is because she is overweight. Her ex-boyfriend writes a story about her called “loving a larger woman” and Cannie is incensed because he called her fat even though she describes herself as fat and overweight throughout the book. I thought he seemed well intentioned but a bit misguided, then his character (underdeveloped, as are all the characters besides Cannie). We are supposed to believe he is a jerk and Cannie dumps him for her gorgeous doctor boyfriend (the doctor who runs her diet class). I stopped reading the book when Cannie gets pregnant because by this time I was tired and depressed by Cannie’s bitterness and frankly thought I wouldn’t be able to put up with her antics – and complaints. And the author keeps saying how funny and hilarious an

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great read Good in Bed was a great book - I couldn't put it down. Women can easily relate to Cannie on so many different levels. The book also shows that no matter what struggles one goes through we all have it within ourselves to get through them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Read! Couldn't put it down! I read it while on vacation, then my Mom's boyfriend picked it up - he loved it, and then my Mom read it. We all completely enjoyed it - a must read for women and men of all ages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous Summer Read Good in Bed was far too easy to relate to. It was a great Cinderella story with many, many bumps in the road, but a Cinderella story plus-sized! Weiner's debut novel was a hit in my book - easy to read and a riot along the way. Highly recommend - you will finish it in a day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Read! I could not put this book down! This was the best book I have read in a long time. I loved the character of Cannie and didn't want the book to end. Very realistic story. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny, compelling and uplifting! This book was tremendous, so good that I couldn't put it down. It ended up taking me less than two days to read, as Cannie's stories and experiences drew me into her world insofar that I couldn't put the book down unless I had to. This book is a must-read for anyone who's ever had insecurities with love or their body, but especially for women grappling with the weight issue, the one that many of us go through at one point in life or another. I hope to read more of Miss Weiner's writings. A great first book, definitely on the top of my Favourite Books List.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good in Bed. A fabulous story about a very real character, who deals with real issues, sure it has the typical fairytale ending, but really, there's no other way for it to end. The supporting cast include, a movie star, an absent father, a doctor at the local university, a lesbian mother and various other amusing sorts.
