Ghouls live among us, the same as normal people in every way—except their craving for human flesh. Ken Kaneki is an ordinary college student until a violent encounter turns him into the first half-human half-ghoul hybrid. Trapped between two worlds, he must survive Ghoul turf wars, learn more about Ghoul society and master his new powers.

Shy Ken Kaneki is thrilled to go on a date with the beautiful Rize. But it turns out that she’s only interested in his body—eating it, that is. When a morally questionable rescue transforms him into the first half-human half-Ghoul hybrid, Ken is drawn into the dark and violent world of Ghouls, which exists alongside our own.
Sui Ishida was born in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, and is a Japanese manga artist. In the year 2010 he won the Young Jump 113th Grand Prix award with Tokyo Ghoul.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from must have on your shelf if you love manga, you'll love this. Its really nice, the art is better than a lot of mangas I see. The covers are also amazing, better than the picture, I'd say grab a paperback.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best! First manga book I ever read, won't be the last one! Really great storyline!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Storytelling Probably the best aspect of this manga is the characters. You can feel sympathetic to characters from both sides, and there is no black and white "evil vs good guys" scenario which makes the series feel like it has more weight. Overall good art as well, and there is some excellent use of symbolism throughout (some of it more hidden than others, such as hidden roman numerals in some of the panels which relate to tarot cards). So if you are someone who enjoys just looking at the art in manga, there is extra depth added to some of the more key moments thanks to the visuals. It has its problems (especially near the end) but if you are looking for a more mature, darker manga series to read Tokyo Ghoul is one of the better ones to come out in recent years (and perhaps one of the hottest in terms of the community as a whole).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! I bought this awhile ago! It was not too expensive and was in perfect condition at the store! The art is amazing and the story is addicting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easily one of the best mangas ive read A lovely but dark story that will get you hooked very easily. Its a shame the second season of the anime didnt follow the manga more closely. I highly recommend this if your into darker storylines or like your manga with a little blood and gore. The art/drawings are also fantastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ah yes... If you want to cry and feel real sorrow, this series is definitely for you. Also if you like gore, suspense, action and some angst. But seriously this series will rip your heart out and tear it up. It's wonderful.
Date published: 2017-06-12
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Most interesting read in awhile The art style can be a little rough making some panels hard to read at times, but other than that it is a fantastic story. I would say it is easily comparable to Deathnote's level. The story has a darker tone, well fleshed characters and really drives it's point across about the subjectability of morality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT!!! This is my favorite manga by far. Love the characters, love the plot, love the author, love the plot twists... even though they will make you like the author less. Highly recommend it to manga lovers who enjoy some good artwork and well planned story. P.S. just please don't watch Root A.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Read! I watched the anime, but found plot holes I was unsatisfied with. I've read up to volume 9 in the manga, LOVE IT! So much better than the anime. Recommend for anyone who reads manga and watched the anime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best manga of the decade Tokyo Ghoul's story may seem like every other horror/seinen/fantasy manga out there but it is a lot deeper than it appears. It makes you think about society, makes you take one side and then switch to another. You will find yourself being thrown off (in a good way) with all the plot twists and there is absolutely not way that you can tell what will come next. It is unique, complex, deep and masterly put together. Ishida definitely had to complete story thought out before writing Tokyo Ghoul which is rare for manga writers nowadays. Please give it a try and I guarantee that you won't regret it. A MUST READ

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dark and fascinating story Not your typical zombie tale. The characters in this are very strong and the story is intriguing. You'll get sucked in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow..... just..... WOW Holy crap, was this ever good! Tokyo Ghoul's story starts off gritty, and doesn't let that go.... EVER. I got it recommended to me by an employee, and I'm glad I picked it up. This emotional roller coaster starts at the drop, and never comes back up for air. Amazing series!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compelling Tragedy A dark story with a relatable main character. It might get slow at some points but the final payoff is worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must buy! For fans of the anime and for readers of the manga before it was localized, this is a must buy. I love the covers of the Tokyo Ghoul manga as they are so pretty and colourful. The story is really good too. Action packed and very character driven. There's no cons that I can think about when it comes to the Tokyo Ghoul series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heart Rending It should be mentioned that this is a seinen series, unlike Naruto or Attack on Titan, meaning it uses complex language and appeals to an older audience. It can handle some pretty heavy stuff. I personally find it much more fulling than the average manga, and I look forward to having my heart ripped to shreds with each chapter! I am in love with this series it is just so good.
