Excerpt: ... ces of the Roman Church, the Doctor tells his Adversary he was ashamed to translate, however in transcribing them from him, I thought it proper to translate them also, that the unlearned Reader (who is in most Danger of being imposed upon by a Romish Emissary) might be sensible of the gross Idolatry and Superstition of that corrupt Church, and fee that whatsoever Desects may be found in the Church of England, yet the Church of Rome can be no sase Sanctuary for him to sly unto; and that whatever Pretences she may make to Insallibility, she is as sar from it as 3uy of those she accuses of Heresy. And that howsoever her Missionaries may colour and disguise, nay, directly deny (as I am told they will do) these gross Absurdities, to those whom they endeavour to pervert to their Superstition; yet when they are once reconciled to that Communion, they must comply with these and many otber Abominations, as I have shewed in my Vindication, where I examined the Creed which they will then also be bound to believe. §. Having therefore given this Caution against the Church of Rome, and shewn, that whatever Deficiency may be in the Church of England, or any other Protestant Communion, yet the Church of Rome cannot be the true Catholick and Apostolick Church, as being guilty pf gross Idolatry and Corruption, I shall now proceed to shew, that the sasest Method which a good Christian can take, is to adhere to the Rule which the Church of England lays down a? the Standard of her Reformation, and by Prayers to God and Arguments wit.h Men endeavour to prevail with all Persons of'all Persuasions tq be guided by that only insallible Rule of true Religion.
