about

Zeus has punished his son Apollo--god of the sun, music, archery, poetry, and more--by casting him down to earth in the form of a gawky, acne-covered sixteen-year-old mortal named Lester. The only way Apollo can reclaim his rightful place on Mount Olympus is by restoring several Oracles that have gone dark. What is affecting the Oracles, and how can Apollo/Lester do anything about them without his powers?
After experiencing a series of dangerous--and frankly, humiliating--trials at Camp Half-Blood, Lester must now leave the relative safety of the demigod training ground and embark on a hair-raising journey across North America. Somewhere in the American Midwest, he and his companions must find the most dangerous Oracle from ancient times: a haunted cave that may hold answers for Apollo in his quest to become a god again--if it doesn't kill him or drive him insane first. Standing in Apollo's way is the second member of the evil Triumvirate, a Roman emperor whose love of bloodshed and spectacle makes even Nero look tame. To survive the encounter, Apollo will need the help of son of Hephaestus Leo Valdez, the now-mortal sorceress Calypso, the bronze dragon Festus, and other unexpected allies--some familiar, some new--from the world of demigods. Come along for what promises to be a harrowing, hilarious, and haiku-filled ride. . . .
Rick Riordan, dubbed "storyteller of the gods" by Publishers Weekly, is the author of five #1 New York Times best-selling middle grade series with millions of copies sold throughout the world: Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Heroes of Olympus, and the Trials of Apollo, based on Greek and Roman mythology; the Kane Chronicles, based...

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! Great sequel to this thrilling series, with lots of development from previous characters in the Heroes of Olympus series, as well as the new protagonists Apollo and Meg. Great exploration of Apollo's past, especially with his relationship with Commodus - it's easy to empathize with Apollo and the drastic decisions he makes as a god with lots of responsibility. Also with the mistakes he makes as a reckless god too. Great character dynamic and adventurous plot, and the ending is quite nice as an old character returns!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoyable as always Just like usual, Riordan is incredible with all of his works. I love the humour and references to past series I used to read as a kid. Honestly I'm loving getting back into reading a new series written by him and I can't wait for the next one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Got more into it than the first! I'm a HUGE Rick Riordan fan, and I hate to say it, but I didn't enjoy the first trials of apollo book that much. This one however, I got a bit more into. Nothing Rick writes is bad by any means, it's just not the same as some of his other series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing read! Rick Riordan does an exquisite job on all his novels and this is no exception! Loved it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved this book! There is so much humor in this book that makes it even better! I love that we get to see Leo and Calypso again. We get to go alongside Apollo as he and Meg have to defeat an other Roman Emperor!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lester is Flying Higher than ever! On the search for a dangerous prophecy alongside demigod Leo and Calypso, Apollo must face another evil Roman emperor back from the dead if he hopes to not only learn how he can become a god again, but how he can save Meg! A thrilling sequel in this witty series!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing I loved the first book so this one was a bit of a let down compared to it. It was still incredible though I'm so happy that Rick decided to put old characters from previous series in each book!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Apollo is (insert a thousand different words) I kind of still want more Percy/ Annabeth/ Percabeth.... but Leo and Apollo in the same book kind of make up for it
Date published: 2018-02-17
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute You get to see the better (at times) side of Apollo and its really refreshing from the usual arrogance that they have in the stories.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay While the plot of this book is good I had a hard time caring about the characters. I find that Apollo is just another character in the universe and doesn't stand out, while Meg is okay she doesn't have many memorable moments that made me grow to love her. Calypso actually annoys me, she was a great character in her first two appearances but her whole personality has changed and bugs me. While I was a big fan of Leo in the Hero's Of Olympus I find that he is harder to understand in this novel (that may just be because of the narrator though). I do like the fact that they are going to be going to Camp Jupiter and that Grover is back so I will still read the next book. Hopefully it changes a bit as the series continues as I am an avid Rick Riordan fan and usually love everything he writes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A little disapointed I dont find Apollo appealing own his own. With the other charterers like Leo, Annabeth, Percy and others i think hes fine. But as soon as Meg was reintroduced i found the story and Apollo intolerable. i kept putting it down and had to force my self to pick it back up. this is the first time ive not enjoyed a Rick Riordan novel

Date published: 2017-08-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic book Such a good book, continuing with the theme of LGBT characters but with a main character this time. Apollo is unapologically bisexual with a lot of the conflict in the book focused on how much he loved someone. An amazing thing for kids lit.
Date published: 2017-07-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Rick Riordan continues to be my favourite author.
Date published: 2017-07-07
Rated 3 out of 5 by from 3.5 stars for Apollo and the ending...because I think the next book will be better if it features some returning characters. I chuckled here and there but mostly this book sadly suffered second-book syndrome. Not much happened and looks like there will be 5 books to this series. Hopefully I'll enjoy the next book more.

Date published: 2017-07-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great This was a great book with great humour but I still liked Riordan's other books better.
Date published: 2017-07-01
Rated 4 out of 5 by from second book syndrome the humour that i thoroughly enjoyed in the first book wasn't as present in the second book of the series, but it was still an immensely enjoyable read. it was a bit darker in places, which i love considering the fact that this book IS about a greek god, and i definitely don't regret reading it. i can't wait for the other book(s) of this series, and will no doubt get them as soon as they come out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing Was not at all dissapointed in this second installement. Rick Riordan makes it so easy to enjoy history and knows how to keep you on your toes. You meet lots of new in interesting caracters as well and for those of you who have learned about this in school you get to see a hole other side to these heros and gods.
Date published: 2017-05-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should be as good as the last I love Rick Riordan's writing, and all of his books. The Hidden Oracle was a great first book in this series, and this one should be as good as the last, if not better. Should appeal to Percy Jackson fans, being one myself. Another adventure filled with twists and turns, smart wit, and hilarious jokes. I love it.
