The tales were collated and edited by JRR Tolkien''s son and literary heir, Christopher Tolkien, who provides a short commentary on each story, helping the reader to fill in the gaps and put each story into the context of the rest of his father''s writings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tolkien's great work Read Lord of the Rings? Want to know more? This will be a great read for you. Also recommend the Silmarillion - a lot of history about Middle Earth and those who came before the time of those you know from LOTR. Overall recommend to anyone who wants to know more about Middle Earth, and if you enjoyed other works of Tolkien.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Tolkien Mythos.. Comparisons to the tower of Babel are most fitting when describing the history of Numénor, the great island of Men. Its history is rich, and beautifully told in this narrative. If you enjoyed LOTR, and have already read the Silmarillion, this is your next step in delving into Ardan Mythos. A must read.
