The enemy wants us to feel rejected . . . left out, lonely, and less than. When we allow him to speak lies through our rejection, he pickpockets our purpose. Cripples our courage. Dismantles our dreams. And blinds us to the beauty of Christ’s powerful love.

In Uninvited, Lysa shares her own deeply personal experiences with rejection—from the incredibly painful childhood abandonment by her father to the perceived judgment of the perfectly toned woman one elliptical over.

With biblical depth, gut-honest vulnerability, and refreshing wit, Lysa helps readers:

  • Release the desire to fall apart or control the actions of others by embracing God-honoring ways to process their hurt.
  • Know exactly what to pray for the next ten days to steady their soul and restore their confidence.
  • Overcome the two core fears that feed our insecurities by understanding the secret of belonging.
  • Stop feeling left out and start believing that "set apart" does not mean "set aside."
  • End the cycle of perceived rejection by refusing to turn a small incident into a full blown issue.
Lysa TerKeurst is president of Proverbs 31 Ministries and the New York Times bestselling author of Uninvited and The Best Yes. She writes from her sticky farm table and lives with her family in North Carolina. Connect with her at www.LysaTerKeurst.com.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Getting to the root of our feelings of rejection and loneliness to see ourselves through God's eyes At some point in our life, we are going to feel left out, left behind, or lonely. It is an inevitable part of being a human being and of human nature. We are inherently social creatures for the most part. Of course, it fluctuates throughout our lives in stages, as if it is a pendulum swinging back and forth. And some people naturally seem to need more social contact than others. But that normalcy is not what the author addresses in this book. Instead, she delves into the deep end of the pool when life hits us with a hammer blow and we find ourselves rejected, left out or even turned out deliberately. How do we survive such a blow? The author tells some of her own story. She's done research on rejection in humans and found two core fears that feed a person's sensitivity to rejection: the fear of being abandoned and the fear of losing one's identity. Her story confirms that she understands these fears well. She had once been abandoned, and with her father went her identity. She knows how it feels to lose in this deliberate way and writes from this knowledge one of the most powerful books I have ever read. Her core beliefs led her to feel unwanted, even by God. How do you overcome that? For me this book was so powerful that I would read sections of it over and over to get all I could out of it. I couldn't just sit down and read the book as a fiction novel. I had to read it piece by piece and leave plenty of time between the reading to contemplate what I learned. I'm also a book underliner. When I find something especially meaningful to me, I underline or highlight or circle or bracket it in some way to bring my attention back to that part. Judging from those markings in my copy of the book, the entire volume spoke to me in a very personal way. Every few pages were marked in some way. Lysa TerKeurst's words touched me. They confirmed that I was not alone in this struggle. They affirmed that someone else had floundered around feeling lost on the inside while trying to look normal on the outside. Several months ago I happened to read about this book on a Bible Study website. I knew immediately that this book would be able to help get me out of the funk I had fallen into. So I ordered the Bible Study material to go along with the book and the online group sessions. For me, the most valuable resource was the book itself. The study material was nice, and the online videos were uplifting, but it was the book that I needed the most. It helped pave the way for my inner healing. My opinion is that Lysa TerKeurst's book is an effective tool that God can use to bring healing to the parts of us that have been ripped apart and torn to shreds by people and circumstances determined to stomp us into the ground. What she writes is much more than an affirming pat on the head and empty promises of a kinder future. We don't need that. There are already plenty of books that do that. The author goes way beyond mere platitudes and gets down to our core beliefs and builds on them. She clarifies them and helps us understand them so they can provide a stable foundation where God teaches us to do life in spite of setbacks and heartbreak. This book has my enthusiastic endorsement. Get the book and share it. You'll never regret that decision.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's time to be who you are because you are loved by God This book is so brilliantly written by Lysa Terkeurst. It opens up those raw emotions that we keep hidden and brings them to the surface. We aren't alone, we are always and unconditionally loved by God. To quote the author " It's the reality that humans can be vicious and selfish and cruel. That's what rejection does. Rejection steals the security of all we thought was beautiful and stable and leaves us scared and fragile and more vulnerable than ever". But God is none of these things. He is goodness and light, He gives us strength and the security we are longing for. She quotes Psalm 23 which is one of my favourite verses about God and His promise to us. This book helped me "get real" and deal with issues long buried and I had thought were forgotten. Open the book, grab a highlighter ( trust me you are going to need one) and rest in Gods love that you can do this. You are invited...invited into His kingdom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this... I loved this book. I actually saw a quote on Instagram with the hashtag "uninvited" but I had no clue it was a book. When I saw the book at Chapters, I didn't bother reading the back, I just bought it. It really opened my eyes because I didn't know I was dealing with rejection. Lysa helped me to not feel as if I'm set aside but set apart.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from such a good read. This book reaches to the core of insecurities, not only does it guide the reader but seeks to connect in a profound and compassionate way to reach the hearts of those who have ever felt "uninvited", alone, desperate and unloved in their lives. If you feel alone, this book will help you take a deeper look within and see your value and worth, it will encourage you to keep going and pressing on through the struggles and it will also bring about a sense of belonging, as the author speaks from a heart of a dear friend but also projects the heart and love of God to the readers hearts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life Changing Read! Uninvited was like a gift passed to me in book form. I love how Lysa TerKeurst writes, and she so passionately shares her heart with her readers. Not only is she a New York Times Bestselling Author, but she writes biblically sound books for women in various walks of life. This book was such a blessing for my heart. It’s easy to feel rejected or left out in life, and often, the sting of that lasts for many years. Uninvited helped remind me of who I am: a daughter of the King. Every gal should pick up a copy! I’ve seen so many people reading Uninvited lately, and it just warms my heart to see so many women reading such a truth-filled message. If you’ve already read Uninvited, I’d strongly suggest you allow a friend or sister to borrow it so she can hear those truths, too! PS. It would make a fabulous Christmas gift for a friend or sister!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Healing Balm for the Heart Rejection. We've all experienced the ache of this word in our lives to varying degrees. How do we overcome the deep, almost physical pain that rejection forces into the deepest parts of our souls? Well, Lysa TerKeurst has a tonic for our hearts that feels like a warm hug and a chat with a friend over a cup of hot tea, but is actually in the form of a book. 'Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely' was published by Thomas Nelson in the late summer of 2016, and will undoubtedly prove to be a healing balm to women everywhere who have ever felt 'uninvited'. One of the best features of this book is Lysa's humble, down-to-earth and oh-so-endearing writing style. With personal anecdotes that instantly draw you in and provide a unique flavor for each chapter, Lysa shares biblical truths that will help readers to replace the rejection in their lives with God's love and the truth he shares through his Word. Just a few of the subjects Lysa covers include: - Alone In a Crowded Room - When Our Normal Gets Snatched - Why Does Rejection Hurt So Much? - Ten Things You Must Remember When Rejected - And so many more... Although I have not read many other books by Lysa TerKeurst, I am convinced that she is a fountain of wisdom. And not just any wisdom - hers is straight from God's word. No matter what season of life you are in, rejection will almost certainly be a part of it at some point or another. So, to women everywhere, I recommend the heart-healing and engaging words of Lysa TerKeurst offered through the pages of 'Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely'. I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLook Bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
