THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

An “honest, effortlessly funny, and alternatively relatable” (Harper’s Bazaar) collection of autobiographical essays by the Academy Award-nominated actress and star of Up in the Air, Pitch Perfect, and Trolls, “Scrappy Little Nobody lets readers feel like they have spent an afternoon chatting with their closest friend” (Booklist).

Even before she made a name for herself on the silver screen starring in films like Pitch Perfect, Up in the Air, Twilight, and Into the Woods, Anna Kendrick was unusually small, weird, and “10 percent defiant.”

At the ripe age of thirteen, she had already resolved to “keep the crazy inside my head where it belonged. Forever. But here’s the thing about crazy: It. Wants. Out.” In Scrappy Little Nobody, she invites readers inside her brain, sharing extraordinary and charmingly ordinary stories with candor and winningly wry observations.

With her razor-sharp wit, Anna recounts the absurdities she’s experienced on her way to and from the heart of pop culture as only she can—from her unusual path to the performing arts (Vanilla Ice and baggy neon pants may have played a role) to her double life as a middle-school student who also starred on Broadway to her initial “dating experiments” (including only liking boys who didn’t like her back) to reviewing a binder full of butt doubles to her struggle to live like an adult woman instead of a perpetual “man-child.”

Enter Anna’s world and follow her rise from “scrappy little nobody” to somebody who dazzles on the stage, the screen, and now the page—with an electric, singular voice, at once familiar and surprising, sharp and sweet, funny and serious (well, not that serious).
Anna Kendrick was born and raised in Portland, Maine. She made her Broadway debut at the age of twelve in her Tony-nominated performance for the musical High Society. Anna garnered an Academy Award nomination for her role as Natalie Keener in Up in the Air. She has made numerous theatrical appearances, including starring roles in Into ...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great book, but dragged in places I adore Anna Kendrick's spunky personality. This book is very Anna, funny and clever, however, it dragged in places and I had to force myself to continue reading. Entertaining and light, perfect to take with you to the beach.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LOL Anna Kendrick is too funny!!
Date published: 2017-05-16
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Oh Anna! This is the first autobiography that I've read and I enjoyed it! I am a fan of Anna Kendrick, she is blunt and down to earth with a rather odd sense of humour and all these qualities are reflected in her writing! However, it did take some time to finish this book as I find it struggled to keep my attention. I would still recommend this book as it remains an interesting read nonetheless.
Date published: 2017-05-02
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worth the read Funny at parts, but also the author shares some deep insecurities which everyone can relate to. A light and fun read.
Date published: 2017-04-24
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great! Haven't had time to finish it but it's good so far #plumreview
Date published: 2017-04-24
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny This was an amusing book to read. It's great to see an actress's perspective on things, and they were written in a way that didn't complete bore you like other autobiographies tend to do.
Date published: 2017-04-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Humorous It's pretty much a cliche at this point to have a celebrity write an auto biography. But to Anna Kendrick's credit, this is actually pretty humorous and worth reading. She doesn't take herself too seriously and is completely self-aware.
Date published: 2017-04-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny! I absolutely loved it. It felt like you could really be friends with Anna. She kept it "real" and she allowed you into her life. She kept it light and fun. I would recommend it to anyone that loves a bit of comedy. She has made me ever more a fan of her work.
Date published: 2017-04-13
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as I expected... Though I did laugh a lot while reading this book, it was not what I expected. I thoroughly enjoyed learning her behind the scenes perspective and unique up-bringing, but I found the book hard to hold my attention. The stories and were quite choppy and though the book began chronologically it kind of lost that and got confusing part way through. I think she's a wonderful actress and seems like a genuine and awkwardly relatable person, but the book was just missing something.
Date published: 2017-04-11
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious and Enlightening I have read a handful of these 'celebrity memoirs' lately and didn't have a particularly high opinion of any of them until this one. Anna totally won me over and this is now one of my favourite books (which sounds absurd for a book lover to say) because it has everything- it is absolutely hilarious, embarrassing, honest, sad, weird...everything Anna portrays on screen and more. Perhaps its helpful that shes only a few years older than I am but I really appreciate her view on life and can see myself turning to this book over and over.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 150 Characters or Less I'm a big fan of Anna Kendrick's twitter account. I found the same lighthearted humour through out her book. While her stories are funny and light she jumps around quite a bit - and if you are looking to read about HOW she got to where she is, you will not find the answer.
Date published: 2017-03-22
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inspiring I liked it, I found it really interesting and entertaining to read.
Date published: 2017-03-20
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny. Not inspirational This was a decent read. Funny and lighthearted but stays pretty surface level and does not hold a lot of inspiration

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved it, love her I am a big fan of Anna Kendrick so I enjoyed this book a lot. My opinion is pretty biased but I imagine you wouldn't read it if you didn't already like her.
Date published: 2017-03-18
Rated 4 out of 5 by from If you love Anna, youll love this. Written in her easily recognizable voice, this book is hilarious and heartwarming. Anna is self deprecating and honest, which is exactly what we've come to expect from her. Super fun to read.
Date published: 2017-03-16
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprising I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I ended up loving Anna even more than I already did. She could easily have a career as an author.
Date published: 2017-03-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Laugh Out Loud Funny I enjoyed Anna's book so much. I actually found myself relating to this Oscar Nominated actress. She's funny and down to earth with a large dollop of self-deprecation.
Date published: 2017-03-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I really enjoyed it! This is exactly as I imagined Anna Kendrick to be. It's very humorous, honest and blunt. If you're a fan of Anna Kendrick, I think you will enjoy this book.
Date published: 2017-03-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good I love Anna Kendrick. She is funny and very relatable.
Date published: 2017-03-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inside Scoop on Celebrities I may not know Anna Kendrick, but I can almost pretend that we're friends now that I spent hours reading about her life - right? It's definitely written like a millennial, which makes it so relatable because I too feel like lying on the floor and eating Mac and cheese in sweat pants and putting of "real life" for just a bit longer! She's a pretty cool writer and gives you a feel that you kinda get what new celebrities feel about the world they've be thrust into. I wonder if Anna had to get permission to write about all the other famous actors she wrote about in the book! It's nice to know that she poke fun at herself and let us in on little parts of her journey so far. She's self deprecating, wry, a bit kooky, and so very interesting! I was really busy while reading this book, but I ended up keeping it 2 weeks overdue at the library because I just wanted to read it all. I think even if people didn't really like her or know her as an actress prior to her book, they would be intrigued. She's not afraid to talk about the "behind-the-scenes" of her interactions with other actors. It almost feels like that world isn't so distant and hard to understand anymore. Good for her for getting to where she is now! Favourite quote: "The author is shorter in real life."
Date published: 2017-03-10
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Was expecting Better I normally find Anna Kendrick to be very funny both on screen and in interviews. Unfortunately, this book did not live up to my expectations. There is not a lot of substance to this book and it's not all that funny. If you're not already a Kendrick fan, I would skip this read.
Date published: 2017-03-08
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny Read A lovely book and very humorous, would recommend to some of my girlfriends for sure!
Date published: 2017-03-05
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent I first became aware of Anna Kendrick in her performances in the Twilight saga. That is the reason I picked this book up so I was a bit disappointed, not only because she barely mentioned her time on the Twilight set, but when she did it was either negative or describing how she "escaped" from everyone. Other than that little letdown, I found the book to be pretty decent. I still can't say that I really got to know her though. Despite the fact that she comes off as brutally, bluntly honest, I'm not sure how much of it was her true emotion, or "playing to the camera". I can't tell if she really is as crazy and self-effacing as she wants us to think she is, or if she is really suffering from low self-esteem. Or both. I did enjoy reading of her "rise to fame" and it was an easy, quick read.
Date published: 2017-02-28
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fun read It's a great book, I didn't know to much about Anna Kendrick until this book. It has it's moments of truth and it's moments of funny.
Date published: 2017-02-27
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Meh I enjoy Anna Kendrick...but this book was missing something. It's exactly what you would expect it to be...but there was never a point when reading it when I thought "wow this gives me more insight into her life"....it's basically just extended versions of her tweets.
Date published: 2017-02-22
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must-have for casual or diehard fans of Anna Kendrick. Equally inspiring and funny (actually laugh out loud funny), with just the right amount of heartbreak. You could feel her energy and appreciate her smart wit in every page. Kendrick proves that life is too short to take yourself too seriously. I really want to give it a 5 star review- but I just wish there was a bit more to it. It almost seemed like something was missing-that we were just scratching the surface of her life and her story. I definitely have plans to read this again. So glad I got an autographed copy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilariously Honest I don't often pre-order books, but I'm so glad that I did! I've loved Anna Kendrick since her Twilight days, so even though I'm not normally a big fan of this kind of book, I had to give it a chance. It was one of the funniest books I've ever read. Anna has this way of being really honest and making readers feel like they aren't alone, without getting too serious. It's raw, it's light, it's relatable and funny. Amazing read. I have and will continue to recommend it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderfully Quirky and Sarcastic I went into this book knowing that I was most likely going to love it as I really enjoy Anna Kendrick. This book was packed full of funny stories and her wonderful quirky personality shone through wonderfully. She's full of sass and sarcasm and isn't afraid to show it to the world. This is another book that had me chuckling the whole time I was reading it, I was a little nervous before reading it that her personality and humor wouldn't translate well onto pages, but it was wonderful. I would be absolutely interested to read any more books she may come out with in the future

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This book made me into a huge Anna Kendrick fan I didn't know too much about Anna Kendrick when I picked this up, but it did not take long before I inevitably fell in love with her humour and style. The thing about personal essays and biographies is that you have to be able to understand where the person was coming from in that particular point of their life, but with Anna Kendrick, it was all but too easy to relate to. This was truly a great read from start to finish, although the last three chapters had me completely in stitches.
Date published: 2017-01-27

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Fun Read I enjoyed this book, it was easy to read, and was a fast read for me. As far as actresses being writers though, it kind of falls a bit flat for me in places, almost like she is trying too hard to be funny. All in all though, it was good, and she is very easy to relate to.
Date published: 2017-01-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like chatting with a friend Kendrick writes in a very honest way that makes reading her book seem like you're chatting with a friend. Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Side to See It's refreshing to read something from a actress you like and realize how real they are and the hardships they had to endure. Most people think they had it easy didn't have to work hard to be where they are now! Anna Kendrick proves that wrong as well as showing exactly the sense of humor she has. Probably reigned in to boot. I dig it. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It was like catching up over coffee with an old friend Who doesn’t love reading about a celebrities life? It’s just so fascinating because they accomplished something that so few people do. I can’t help it you guys! Usually they are the run of the mill celebrity “biographies” (trust me I know I’ve read a majority of them, no I’m not a stalker okay)! I am happy to announce that for me Scrappy Little Nobody does not fall into the typical celebrity biography genre! *dances around the apartment waving my arms around, more like flailing* Date: December 5, 2016 Author: acouplereads 2 Comments — Edit Who doesn’t love reading about a celebrities life? It’s just so fascinating because they accomplished something that so few people do. I can’t help it you guys! Usually they are the run of the mill celebrity “biographies” (trust me I know I’ve read a majority of them, no I’m not a stalker okay)! I am happy to announce that for me Scrappy Little Nobody does not fall into the typical celebrity biography genre! *dances around the apartment waving my arms around, more like flailing* Here’s a short synopsis I grabbed from Goodreads… AT THE RIPE AGE OF THIRTEEN, ANNA HAD ALREADY RESOLVED TO “KEEP THE CRAZY INSIDE MY HEAD WHERE IT BELONGED. Anna Kendrick was hilarious! I laughed out loud in public a few times while I waited in various lines to pick up various items while reading it. Not only was she funny but she was real! Her parents had regular jobs, she went to public school, she started in theatre so her life was fairly normal. I mean, she still had to perform in theatre productions which resulted in some home schooling but it felt like I was catching up with an old friend when I read the book! I love how she has no shame, she will admit to all her faults and you’ll still end up liking her. The writing was pretty good! It flowed well and I wasn’t cringing (like I have with some celebrity memoirs in the past) at any point. It was so lovely to see that even if you come from a normal family where your parents work as teachers, accountants, etc you can still follow your dreams and make them come true. Definitely give this one a try!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Anna I imagined I enjoy seeing Anna Kendrick in her various movie parts and always get a kick out of the underlying sarcasm and snark I perceive. She doesn't disappoint with this memoir - the stories provided insight into her interesting and scrappy little rise to stardom.
