Sharon McKay's novel is set in Uganda, where Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) has, since 1987, abducted up to 30,000 children from their villages and homes for use as soldiers and slaves. It is in these nightmarish times that the fates of five boys and a girl are entwined. Captured from their school by the LRA, the boys wait for rescue only to discover that if they are to survive they must rely on themselves. But friendship, courage, and resilience might not be enough to save them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME!!! it is an amazing story filled with terror and suspense. It always leaves you on the edge of your seat while hiding under your blankets. A warning because it is very heart wrenching, but leaves you on a new perspective of the world and how cruel it really is

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exciting, scary & well planned! Jacob becomes a rebel soldier for the Lord's Resistance army, just when he thought that he was perfectly safe with all his father's guards. It's a real fast read, heart pounding and exciting. Definitely deserved the red maple award.
