Fire alone can save our Clan...

For generations, four Clans of wild cats have shared the forest according to the laws laid down by the powerful ancestors. But the warrior code is threatened, and the ThunderClan cats are in grave danger. The sinister ShadowClan grows stronger every day. Noble warriors are dying -- and some deaths are more mysterious than others.

In the midst of this turmoil appears an ordinary housecat named Rusty . . . Who may yet turn out to be the bravest warrior of them all.

Erin Hunter is inspired by a love of cats and a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. As well as having great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behavior. She is also the author of the bestselling Seekers series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Odd Fantasy, But Still Exemplary Work Fantasy normally resorts to some form of magic as it's pier, but documenting the strange life of wild cats who have ancestors that have some flickering power or magic about them, neatly falls into the category of "Odd Fantasy" for me. These books are wonderful, rich and... well, simply terrific in the style that keeps readers clinging, begging to be a part in this strange, new world.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More Than Just Your Average Cats I started reading this series way back when I was in grade three and I've stuck with the series to its latest installment. Into the Wild is the first book in the Warriors series and one of my favourites. The series is extremely well written although the fact that it focuses on cats is an immediate turn off. People instantly think the book has no substance because the main characters are cats. The books focus on courage, loyalty, family and finding yourself. The books are about four earth bound clans of cats who live in one forest. They have leaders healers warriors and apprentices and for the first part of the series it covers the story from Rusty's point of view. Rusty is a kittypet who joins Thunderclan. He takes on a knew name and raises in the ranks. Later the series progresses to follow his two children and then his three grandchildren. Its an amazing series but people just don't give it a chance!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Cat-tastic Tale When you find a book that not only grownups but kids enjoy then you know it has to be good! The Warrior series give a different perspective on the life of cats and you might be surprised at how this series will draw you in and I think it would be an excellent series for reluctant readers - boys or girls who want to read more than just one book. I look forward to reading the rest of the books!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cliched and Predictable It took me a while to like this book. First, the plot is pretty much cliched and predictable. Second, and mostly, I just had a hard time warming up to the animals. I didn't find anything likable about packs of stray, feral cats with ticks, slit ears and missing tails, Yet, as I kept reading I was slowly won over by the personalities of the main characters. I think I would have liked this better if it had been set in a world without humans (such as in Redwall or Ga'Hoole) as it would have been easier to accept the cats as dignified characters. For the first 7 or 8 chapters I just kept thinking some Twolegs (humans) should get the SPCA in there and rescue these poor cats! But eventually I warmed up to the characters, Firepaw and Bluestar especially, and while the plot was predictable it moved along at a good pace and the set up for the next in the series is intriguing and puts me in the position of wanting to find out what happens next. So we'll see if the second book is good enough to make me keep reading the series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets kids reading Don't count this book out for readers younger than 10. The entire series has enough action and adventure to keep kids reading, and the vocabulary is not so difficult as to be discouraging. They won't be able to put this series of books down once they start!

Then I saw the cover and found out it was about cats. Well, when you see the cover of this book you think, well, it's not very interesting! Well, you shouldn't think like that. Try it and you'll see! I read all of Erin Hunter's books and you REALLY should try it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG!!!!!!!!!!! So good My friend was into these books so i thought i'd give 'em a try. OMG i was hooked by the first chapter! I'm on the 4th one of the 1st series, but my friend is such a slow reader that i can't read it yet! It sounds really stupid, the whole 'cat warrior' thing, but OMG they are sooooooooooooo good! I was captivated by the hostility of ShadowClan and the amazing detail erin hunter put in the battles. Awesome Never ever judge a book by its cover.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The First Warrior Book Ever- I loved it! Wild cat clans...fights...love...forest...other clans...StarClan...Without this book I would never have been the warriors series. Last X-mas, my bffl saw a little poster in the school library with the best books of 2005. She saw this book and she loves cats and was looking for something to read so she got it. After she read it she told me to read them. It was great. Now we are both reading Twilight-#5 in the second series. So I've read 10 warrior books so far and loved them all. Me and my bffl got some of our friends into reading them too. They love them! I highly recomend these books if you love cats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Book I Have Ever Read At first I was not very intrested in reading these books, but when my friend A recommended it I thought I would give it a try. I read the first chapter, and was immediatly captivated by the life of Rusty as he journeyed from the life of a house cat to become a warrior of Thunder Clan known as Fireheart. It was so good that I could not put it down, and as soon as I was finished, I bought the second one (Fire and Ice.) The books just kept getting better and better that I would read way more than I would watch TV. Erin Hunter is a fantastic writer, and if you haven't already, you should read the warriors sagas. You don't know what your missing if you haven't read them already. Keep writing Erin!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Exciting Series I really enjoyed this great book. I anxiously await the next book to the series called Warriors which I plan to pre-order. All of the books are wonderfully captivating, and I could barely put the books down till I finished the last book, "Starlight", that is out from the next generation in the series. The first book called "Into the Wild", is about a curious and brave young cat named Rusty. One night he ventured from the safety of his kittypet (house cat) home to persue the mouse in his dreams into the unknown territory of the forest. There he meets a clan cat, who becomes his best friend when he is invited to join the clan. He endures taunting from the other cats about his kittypet background, finds love, and has many adventures, which help him learn more about himself and the world around him, as well as leading him down the twisting path that Starclan (the cat anscestors) has laid out for him. I am sure that anyone who reads this series will not be dissappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful!!The Best Book Ever. Once I has read the first paragraph, I knew this book was for me. This is the first of an absolutely amazing saga. Full of suspense, adventure, friendship, and romance, I call Warriors #1: Into the Wild my very favourite by far. Erin Hunter writes with great detail; I can imagine myself in the very place she explains. Her love of cats and mideival times mix together to make an addicting tinge to the words printed on the pages. I couldn't put the book down, no matter how hard I tried. I have already recommended this book to one of my good friends, and he is addicted to the saga as well. I never stop talking about these books! Erin Hunter has made an astonishing language for her books with unique names for each cat, be it a 'kittypet' (meaning a cat that lives with a human), a rogue, a 'medicine cat'(a healer), a warrior, an apprentice, a deputy, or a leader. In this book there are four clans: Thunderclan, Riverclan, Shadowclan, and Windclan. Starclan is the clan where all cats go when they pass away. In the first book, Rusty, a kittypet, is the main character. He has a pelt as red as the flames in a forest fire, eyes as deep as the sea, and a heart as loyal and kind as Starclan, itself. I recommend this book for people who love suspense and adventure, and who are 10 years old to 110 years old. I had never loved any book more than this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from O.o Whoa. When I first saw this book in my local chapters store I read the back and shrugged, was it worth buying? It looked like one of those kiddy kinda books, recommended for like 8-10, but I was so wrong! I decided to buy it because there was a return policy or whatever and it was cheap so yeah I bought it. When I took it home along with some other books (which shall not be named) I put it on my small book shelf, where I put all my books I hadn't read. After I had finished reading a couple of books I went to my book shelf I decided to pick up Warriors for some odd reason, well I began reading it shortly after... Well I soon had my eyes locked on the book and the words pounding in my mind. I finished it shortly after starting then I sighed loudly, I hadn't bought the second book lol! I recommend this book to 11-14 or 15 though I'll probably still be reading past adulthood hehe. This book is packed with everything a good story line needs, even death o.O So yeah people read this book, if you don't I can say you shall regret not taking mine, and many other people's advice... this is only my thoughts though, you may have different ones...

Editorial Reviews

“[The] first spine-tingling episode in the planned Warriors series.Intelligence notwithstanding, the cat characters are true to their feline nature, making this sure to appeal to fans of Clare Bell’s long-popular Ratha’s Creature and to followers of Brian Jacques’ ongoing Redwall series.” (ALA Booklist)
