about

I've been orphaned by my time.
The timeline has changed.
My future is gone.

Etta Spencer didn't know she was a traveler until the day she emerged both miles and years from her home. Now, robbed of the powerful object that was her only hope of saving her mother, Etta finds herself stranded once more, cut off from Nicholas-the eighteenth century privateer she loves-and her natural time.

When Etta inadvertently stumbles into the heart of the Thorns, the renegade travelers who stole the astrolabe from her, she vows to finish what she started and destroy the astrolabe once and for all. Instead, she's blindsided by a bombshell revelation from their leader, Henry Hemlock: he is her father. Suddenly questioning everything she's been fighting for, Etta must choose a path, one that could transform her future.

Still devastated by Etta's disappearance, Nicholas has enlisted the unlikely help of Sophia Ironwood and a cheeky mercenary-for-hire to track both her and the missing astrolabe down. But as the tremors of change to the timeline grow stronger and the stakes for recovering the astrolabe mount, they discover an ancient power far more frightening than the rival travelers currently locked in a battle for control. . . a power that threatens to eradicate the timeline altogether.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Better than the first and a pleasant conclusion

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but.... After reading Passenger I was really looking forward to seeing how everything unfolded in Wayfarer. Unfortunately where I found Alexandra's writing style to be lacking in book one (bit heavy on exposition) was more prevalent in this book. More specifically I found her final battle scene to be somewhat confusing, prolonged and I wasn't quite clear on what had transpired when all was said and done. Furthermore, the book seemed to have three or four endings....I felt like it could have wrapped up 100 pages sooner. Would still recommend the series over all but hope that as Alexandra grows as a writer she tightens up her writing style.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but not fantastic I was so excited for this book. I loved Passenger so much, and the cliffhanger ending meant that I was eagerly awaiting getting my claws into this one. I actually ended up putting off reading it, though, because you only get to read a book for the first time once and I was scared I wouldn't love it. That said, I did really like it, but there was a small inkling of disappointment. While the story was there and the characters were still awesome and all of our questions got answered, it was missing something, some magic that made the first book something really special. This might have been due to the fact that Etta and Nicholas aren't together for 95% of the book, and I had deliberately saved it to read for when I was craving an OTP fix, and I didn't get it. I was even actually considering making it a 3-star book, until the very end scene, which finally fulfilled my expectations. I really liked it. I didn't love it, and I wanted to, but it was still great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So awesome! Book 2 in the Passenger duology! I have to admit, I enjoyed book 1 better because Etta and Nicholas are together but in this they are apart. But still, this one was an amazing finale with so many new concepts!! Can't say much because its the second book, but it was amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was amazing! I enjoyed Passenger but Wayfarer is another step up! Alexandra Bracken's writing is so intricate and beautiful it always takes me a little longer to read her books because I need to focus more. But that just means I get to extend the experience of reading this book. I loved that Nicholas and Etta were separated for the majority of this novel. It was nice reading from two perspectives. I also really appreciate how detailed the historical information is - and the unique time periods that Alexandra Bracken continues to call on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Ending! Talk about a roller coaster finale! Gah, it was so good! I admit, I was having some anxiety a couple time when the action got intense, though it was relatively slow in the beginning. There were new characters to completely adore, others to fear or loathe, historical figures, and some of the most beautiful scenes I've ever read. I almost lost my mind with some of the twists that I never saw coming, and was honestly biting my nails until the very end. This series was so unique and beautiful and simply fun! I loved the mystery and magic (though little actual magic was used) as well as the new and alternate histories I got to experience. I truly felt like I was on a journey by the time it was all over. Nicholas and Etta are two of my favourite couples and characters in YA fiction to date, and I really am going to miss them and their epic romance. A must read for anyone looking to go on multiple adventures with loveable characters, and who are looking for a moving story about choice and sacrifice. This is the book you need yesterday!

Editorial Reviews

"Bracken is always aware of how women, same-sex relationships, and biracial Nicholas would be received in times that range from ancient Carthage to imperial Russia to 1906 San Francisco... The stakes are high, and those who have followed Etta on her journeys won't be putting this down until the explosive end."-Booklist
