Rated 4 out of 5 by from OMG Canada rian Vaughan has established himself as one of the most consistent writer's in comics today. Out of all the writers I read he knows how to build a world, build a setting, structure a story with a start, middle and end, make a point with his story and give us interesting characters. This is no exception. First - I applaud Brian for being able to write a wonderful self contained story like this - it could definitely be expanded BUT since the topic matter is so grim I don't think I could have been able to sustain my interest over a longer arc. Basically, the USA, now a dust bowl because they refused to help stop global warming, invades Canada for its fresh water and enslaves many of its citizens to work on farms. Our story focuses on a small band of resistance fighters. Although there are several plot holes (I think my biggest is "wouldn't it be cheaper to desalinate the Ocean instead of invading and occupying a country"?) the small length of the story works for it so we don't over think these problems too much, instead we see how war changes people and how a corrupt government can justify any of its actions to its people (hey, with a people who elected Trump this isn't as speculative as you might think). I really enjoyed it for what it was, a Twilight Zone type story of "What if the USA invaded Canada". The art was great, the characters well defined and the story straight forward and enjoyable. I am not sure I would like reading it if I was an American because they are the enemies in the story (and who ever likes to think of themselves as the bad guy), but as a Canadian it really hit home how helpless we would be if the US decided it would be easier to take our resources than to buy them.
