Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can you handle the Tooth? This is the cute tale of three children; Zeke, Dinah and Rebecca-Ruth; who are caught in the middle of an unusually large storm. They are being taken care of by their older cousin, Gage. Despite their lack of food, electricity and parents, Gages tells the story of a tooth fairy called What-the-Dickins. Maguire paints a beautiful picture of the world of Skibereen in this heartwarming story. He answers the question of what the Tooth Fairy uses the teeth for and why the leave coins.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charming and Imaginative The most charming and humourous childrens book I have read in ages. Well written and suitable for all ages, with enough debth of universe to keep even the most uninterested reader entertained. 'What the Dickens' is the story of a young girl, her brother, sister and cousin, all of whom are stranded at home without their parents during a fierce hurricane. To sooth the children, Gage, the oldest, tells the children the story of 'What-the-Dickens'; an orphaned skibbereen - the technical term for what we know as a tooth fairy -searching for his place to belong. Maguire is able to capture our main characters confusion and curiosity while keeping him sweet and loveable. While filed with our 9-12 age group, this book would entertain anyone of any age, provided they were willing to go along for the ride.
