Rated 4 out of 5 by from Engaging historical fiction. Draws you into this young immigrant woman's life as she encounters physical hardships and emotional turmoil. Found myself cheering her on as she grew in confidence to become a pillar of strength. Loved this girl! Did not expect how her needlework expertise would 'weave' through her life and lead her to other experiences. Also learned a lot about this time period.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from interesting This book has some good info, but it is missing the big picture and it is looking too close to the issues to make vital connection that would simplify things... but making it more complex always sounds more intelligent....doesn't it?...
