Risking his life on a daily basis is what gets Logan up in the morning. As the leader of the elite Tahoe Pines Hotshot Crew, he won’t back down from a blaze—or from beautiful, lethal Maya Jackson. She may have seduced him with her tears and her passion, but it’ll be a cold day in hell before Logan lets down his guard again. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Book I enjoyed this first story in a new series about Hotshot Firefighters. It was a ?can't put it down? intense, suspenseful book. A very explosive story in more ways than one! It was action-packed suspense with grief, second chances, romance and some really hot sex. The author, Bella Andre, explored in-depth the work of hotshot firefighters, arsonists and arson inspectors. The vivid descriptions of the fire scenes were so realistic, you could feel the heat... Hotshots or Hotshot Crews are an elite group of highly trained wildland firefighters. They respond to the largest, highest-priority fires. All the characters were realistic ? but especially the dynamics between the two main characters. Logan is a crew leader and is good at his job, well-liked, loyal and protective until an arson case where he is the one-and only suspect... Maya Jackson is an arson investigator who is still suffering from the lost of her dear brother, a rookie firefighter who died in an apartment fire. Now the two of them have to put aside their differences, their lack of trust and work together to solve this before the fire kills anymore... They learn to trust each other and work together to figure out who the real arsonist is... This is the story of Logan Cain who is a leader of one of these Hotshot Crews located in the Tahoe Pines. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hot Shot Arson Investigator, Maya Jackson, has grown up around firefighters, her father was a hotshot (a wildfire fighter) and her brother was a firefighter with the Tahoe F.D. When her brother is killed in a fire started by an arsonist, soon after the death of their father, Maya is beside herself in grief. In a moment of anguish, she attempts to lose herself at the bottom of a glass only to have hot and steamy moment with a complete stranger instead. Imagine her surprise when, six months later, she discovers that the main suspect in the arson case she is investigating, is the same man. Logan Cain can’t believe his luck in finding the woman who’s haunted his thoughts since that stolen moment in a bar. He’s a Hotshot that hasn't had much time for relationships, but Maya just may be worth taking a chance on. But can he convince her of his innocence, especially when everything points to him? Wild Heat was a fast, entertaining read. It was rather lightweight though. I found the characters to be a bit flat and the whole set up just too trite - nothing new here. While Andre obviously has done a bit of background work so she can make the business of arson investigation and wildfire fighting believable, there doesn't seem to have been enough time developing the two main characters and their relationship. Once again, this is a book where the two leads fall in lust and in no time at all they are professing their everlasting love. There were definitely a few sizzling moments here, but you don't have to worry about the suspense killing you. Despite Andre laying a trail with a red herring or two, the arsonist is so obvious they might as well be wearing a flashing neon sign. Still, overall, it was an enjoyable read. 2010-053

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WILD HEAT IS SIMPLY SMOKIN Maya Jackson has come to Lake Tahoe to clean out her brothers cottage following his suspicious death in a fire. In her words “she was going to find the *jerk that killed him and she was going to make him pay.” As an arson investigator it’s well within Maya’s realm of possibilities but she’s a little off her game today. Eventually grief proves too much sending Maya to the nearest bar to forget and straight into the arms of the most explosive man she’s ever met. Never mind that he’s a complete stranger they’re doing things on that bar top that she’ll be thinking about for the next 6 months. As the leader of the elite Tahoe Hotshot crew risking his life fighting wild fires is what gets Logan Cain out of bed every morning. So he’s plenty pissed off when following an anonymous phone tip the fire investigator pulls him from the latest inferno and suspends him. Logan’s just been accused of lighting the very fires he’s been killing himself putting out and the real kicker is the person investigating him is none other than that wild woman from the bar 6 months ago. The very one that he can’t seem to get out of his mind or quite forget the taste of on his lips. Maya’s not going to let a little thing like a kiss change how she works this case though. Logan may be the most appealing man she’s ever met but that doesn’t mean she trusts him any further than she could toss a match. And Logan’s never been one to back down from a blaze so if swallowing his pride and working alongside Maya will help find the real arsonist and protect his fellow firefighters then they’re just going to be stuck together and neither can deny the heat radiating between them. As fire levels reach extreme Logan’s men are getting injured, someone’s trying to kill Maya and the forest is literally going up around them. Together they will battle car bombs, house fires and each other in a bid to find the deadly arsonist. You’ll want to wash the smell of smoke from your hair and ash from your clothes after this scorching read. WILD HEAT is a well written story full of suspense, action and some excellent love scenes. Maya is a tough heroine and Logan will have you wanting a hotshot of your own plus you’ll be smelling pine needles for days afterwards. Cheers. Look for HOT AS SIN, the next instalment in this scorching new series.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a Keeper! I have read other titles by Bella Andre, most of her books were great. I found this one to be lacking in a lot of areas. For the most part I felt that the main characters lacked passion, good dialog with eatherother and even any type of "real" romance. I found myself scanning through the pages. In truth it was hard to completly finish this book. I really did not care what happened to the main characters...maybe because i felt like this book was not as interesting or funny or deep as Bella Andre's other ones. I know this is a new series for her and I can only hope the other titles are worth the read!
