about

For the first forty years of his life Marshal was a landless knight but by his marriage to the daughter of Earl Richard of Pembroke in 1189 he became a great feudal lord. His biography depicts the two extremes of feudal society. This edition was first published in 1933.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent ... This is an excellent book. I've never been fond about reading autobiographical books but this one is excellent. I had to read this book for a university course and I was truly surprised and amazed by the chivalric life of William Marshal. The last little bit of the book does get a little slow as it wraps up, but it is well worth the read. It has deepened my interest in this historical yet little known figure. I highly recommend it!
