To get there, Raffa must make a treacherous journey across Obsidia. Along the way, he will discover a luminous plant that might be the key to saving the creatures stuck in the Chancellor’s grasp… if only Raffa can unlock the plant’s secrets and deliver the cure to the captive animals.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cavern of Secrets (Wing & Claw #2) by Linda Sue Park, Jim Madsen ( For a book with a map at the front of it, this is very clearly written and fast-paced. While it includes the fantasy trope of children fighting encroaching evil, the inclusion of the herb lore makes this interesting-- the children are going in search of plants instead of a magical audience. The cliff hanger at the end of this will make readers want to pick up the next book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great family bedtime read I have read the first and second in this series as a Read-A-Loud to my children 14, 10, and 6. We all have very much enjoyed this adventurous story of friendship and imagination. We will be buying the 3rd book when it is released in March.

Editorial Reviews

As in life, the choices are never black and white as Park’s realistically flawed characters struggle between looking out for the greater good or for themselves.
