Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best guide to Xinjiang This is a terrific addition to writing on Xinjiang travel. Most guides I've seen before have only basic information with few updates from one edition to another. Josh Summer's guidebook has a lot more information on the usual sites , making planning easier, but more interesting is the range of smaller sites, the sort of places that make travelling really interesting. This is a guidebook clearly written by someone familiar with the region. There are also comprehensive lists of accommodation and places to eat, usually with contact information. Until this guide came out, I'd had difficulty finding up-to-date information, particularly on the southern silk route, but it's all here, including really good, clear maps. Now that there are high speed trains to Urumqi there will be more tourists so this guide is very timely.
