We’d get to hang out with Amy Poehler, watching dumb movies, listening to music, and swapping tales about our coworkers and difficult childhoods. Because in a perfect world, we’d all be friends with Amy — someone who seems so fun, is full of interesting stories, tells great jokes, and offers plenty of advice and wisdom (the useful kind, not the annoying kind you didn’t ask for, anyway). Unfortunately, between her Golden Globe-winning role on Parks and Recreation, work as a producer and director, place as one of the most beloved SNL alumni and cofounder of the Upright Citizens Brigade, involvement with the website Smart Girls at the Party, frequent turns as acting double for Meryl Streep, and her other gig as the mom of two young sons, she’s not available for movie night.

Luckily, we have the next best thing: Yes Please, Amy’s hilarious and candid book. A collection of stories, thoughts, ideas, lists, and haiku from the mind of one of our most beloved entertainers, Yes Please offers Amy’s thoughts on everything from her “too safe” childhood outside of Boston to her early days in new York City, her ideas about Hollywood and “the biz,” the demon that looks back at all of us in the mirror, and her joy at being told she has a “face for wigs.” Yes Please is a chock-full of words and wisdom to live by.

AMY POEHLERis a writer, actress, producer, and director. She lives in New York City and Los Angeles with her two boys. She hopes this book will get her invited onto her hero Judge Judy’s yacht, Triumphant Lady.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent This book was a roller coaster - funny, boring, emotional & real. As someone who wasn't really a fan of Poehler's to begin with, I definitely have much more respect for her after reading this. Still, not nearly as good as Tina Fey's book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Great Always been a Amy Poehler fan this book gave me a lot of insight into what make her tick. She's worked hard and beaten the odds. It has made me want to go and watch more of her worked that I've missed. #plumreview

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A good read! I love Amy! She is one of my favourite comedians and personalities. However, I found the book to drag on a bit. It wasn't as funny as I had hoped, but still made for a good read and had some interesting stories!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It was ok This book was just ok for me. It had it's funny moments but I expected it to be funnier. I'm glad I listened to the audiobook. I don't think I would have gotten as much enjoyment out reading it. I've read a few biographies this year & this one just fell short for me. I don't feel like I really learned that much about Poehler. This book is forgettable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST-READ FOR EVERYONE AND ANYONE! If you've ever seen Amy Poehler act on the big or the small screen or heard her doing an interview, you are well aware that she is both extremely funny and very intelligent and that is exactly what this book is. EXTREMELY funny and VERY intelligent! Any artist or freelancer will get valuable lessons on the industry in a non-sanctimonious tone by reading about every step that she took both on and off stage and her curiosity, passion and excitement for comedy, writing and performance really are tangible. This is a book written by someone who not only knows about comedy, but who also loves it and can make it all sound both very clever and hilarious. Amy Poehler also doesn't hesitate to share some more intimate and less funny moments of her life, but the fact that they are followed by laughing-out-loud chapters are making it a very balanced read. I highly recommend leaving this book out on your coffee table and to pick it up once in a while to re-read a random chapter, whether it's "I have the Angelina Jolie of vaginas," "Treat your career like a bad boyfriend" or how she made every award nomination she got about a bit with fellow nominees as opposed to her potential win or loss, they are all worth a second read. ENJOY!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Much Fun After listening to a few books like this one, I wasn't sure what I was going to find in Poehler's book, and based on what I knew about her from seeing her in videos and movies, I felt that it could go either way in terms of my own tastes. However, this ended up being such an enjoyable listen and such a fun book. She gets a whole bunch of people involved in this project, and it almost feels more like listening to a fun, hobby podcast rather than an actually published book. Normally, that's something that would bug me, but it just worked so well in this book. It really helps to bring out the stories that Poehler tells and gives you such a great look into her life and her story. I was honestly disappointed when this audiobook was over, because I was having such a blast listening to it. All in all, this book is fantastic, Poehler is hilarious, and I want her to come out with more books. If you like late night chats about a bit of everything, audiobooks that sound more like podcasts, or Amy Poehler as a general, you should definitely check out Yes, Please!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A "Cackle in Public" Kind of Book Amy Poehler's book perfectly captures her voice. It's warm, honest, inspiring and a laugh out loud riot. There was a time that I couldn't go more than two pages without having to read a particularly funny passage out loud to someone. There is a particular part regarding.... well never mind. I'll let you find out for yourself!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Confess Alright, I was late to the love Amy Pohler show, but I confess, I Love Amy Pohler and this book! Vulnerable, real and informative, it's funny, and takes you through her successes and failures with a positive and grateful outlook.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great book! I have also been a fan of Amy Poehler, I loved her on SNL and in various movies. However, it wasn't until I read this book that I became a huge fan of her! Yes Please has the light hearted comedy that you are used to seeing from Poehler, but it goes further than that. Poehler talks about her life, her struggles, her divorce and it brings to life the real person behind all of the comedy. For these reasons, I felt much more connected to this celebrity and it honestly made me appreciate her work even more. The book is the perfect outlet to make you smile, laugh so hard your stomach hurts, and really think about the little things in life! Also, after reading the book, I also decided to start watching her hit show Parks and Recreation and it quickly became one of my all time favourites! I would strongly recommend this book to others.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hilarious and Honest I love biographies that bring celebrities into real life, that remind us that we are all the same. Amy did an amazing job reminding us she goes through the same trials as the rest of us everyday, as well as being under the watchful eye of the public.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as Good as Expected I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. It is well written and has some excellent humour. I still love Amy Poehler.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved It! As a huge fan of Parks and Rec I really, really enjoyed this book. Amy chronicles her successes and failures, highlights from SNL, being your own person, and everything parks and rec, Must read!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lighthearted and funny read Easy book to pass the time with, and lots of funny parts. Was cool to learn more about who she is as a person, and it felt like she really wrote the book - and didn't just have someone else write the majority of it and then pen her name. Poehler writes an interesting and comedic auto biography that gives women in comedy a great reputation.
Date published: 2018-01-09

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So funny! I listened to the audio book voiced by the author. It was funny and lighthearted.
Date published: 2017-11-08
Rated 3 out of 5 by from funny, candid, heartfelt Enjoyed this book as an audiobook; Poehler reading her own words livened some perhaps otherwise leaden writing. The personal touch of author reading author's work is almost always worthwhile. Good for a feel-good laugh, and a sense of maybe everything doesn't suck for women in entertainment, but doesn't leave too much to think about when it's over. Recommend for: feminism 101, anyone on a long road trip, wiling away some time in a fuzzy way

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Hilarious, honest and so interesting! Amy Poeler, you rock!!
Date published: 2017-10-18
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny... If you're a fan I'm not always a fan of Amy Poehler's humour, but I thought I'd give her book a read. Definitely humorous and enjoyable for the most part, but after a while it got to be a little too much Amy for me. You can tell she put the effort into writing it, and I really appreciate that she didn't just slap something together! Not my favourite book, but not my least favourite, either.
Date published: 2017-10-17
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A comedian’s life in words and images I really enjoyed reading Amy Poehler’s book. I love that it’s so colourful and that there are two-paged big and bold (literally and figuratively) statements in between like “Figure out what you want. Say it loud. Then SHUT UP.” and “Symmetry is pleasing but not as SEXY”. I also like that it includes stuff like random things she wrote as a child, a signed photo of Omar Little from The Wire, and a letter to her son Archie from Hillary Clinton! Although it was very funny, you could tell how exhausted writing this book made her and she tries to fill it with goodies to take up more space and keep it interesting. I commend her efforts!

Date published: 2017-09-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderfully bittersweet The humorous parts were great, but so were the thought-provoking lessons about growing old, growing up, parenting, divorce, love etc (hence why bittersweet because they weren't fun, but very deep and serious)
Date published: 2017-09-06
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny and heartfelt I love Amy Poehler and her memoir was everything I expected it to be, hilarious and inspiring. She truly loves her job and does not for one minute take her success for granted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heartfelt and funny This is a great glimpse into Amy's life, and is filled with her humourous take on her experiences.
Date published: 2017-08-11
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hilarious and Brilliant This book was fantastic, and really helped me solidify my love for Amy! She has always been a great comedian, but this book also speaks to the volumes of work she does away from the cameras. Definitely read this if you're looking for a fun, witty book to enjoy and you won't be dissapointed.
Date published: 2017-08-06
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I laughed out loud! I am a huge fan of Amy Poehler and thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you loved Parks and Recreation, you will love this. This book is filled with wit and charm and many times I laughed out loud. I love how she respectfully wrote about her divorce from Will Arnett - I wish more celebrities would show as much class and tact. It's a great book that you can leave and come back to and each time it leaves you with a smile on your face.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy Summer Read A nice light humorous book to read, perfect for when you're just lounging around under the sun
Date published: 2017-07-11
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Skipped a lot of pages I love Parks and Recreation and think Amy Poehler is one of the funniest female comedians so I was really excited to read Yes Please. It had some funny moments, but it didn't quite have the insight I was hoping for. I didn't walk away feeling like I had learned anything new about Amy. I think I would only recommend this book to serious Amy Poehler fans; some celebrity memoirs can connect with a wider audience, but I don't think this is one of those books. Also, Amy complains constantly about how hard it is to write a book, while writing a book. The first time she mentions it, it was kind of funny but by page 200 it was time to stop writing about it. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amy is a queen. I cannot describe how excited I was when I found out this book was coming out. It did not disappoint. It was both laugh-out-loud funny, and completely real. Amy is one of the few celebrities that I truly look up to and respect. Read this book, just do it.

Date published: 2017-04-17
Rated 3 out of 5 by from When you love Parks and Rec Amy's life story in itself was quite interesting and entertaining. The humour in it wasn't as funny as I hoped it to be, but that only detracted from the enjoyability of the book a little bit. The candor in the way she wrote about her relationships was an unexpected plus to the book. As a Parks and Rec fan, the little insider snippets and insights about the show was really what I loved the most.
Date published: 2017-04-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun and Interesting It's a great collection of light-hearted shorter stories that don't take too much effort to read. I was expecting it to be a bit funnier, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Date published: 2017-04-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice and fun read If you like Amy you will love this book
Date published: 2017-04-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny but not nearly as personal Being Amy Poehler, can't help but be at least a bit funny and it does entertain you at the end of it. The minor quibble is that this wasn't nearly as personal as you would think and that's on purpose as she states in her book that she doesn't want you to know her business. There are many periods in her life that skips over and she goes through a lot of, “Then we got a bigger theater, and then a bigger one, and then I was hired at SNL" without really going in-depth.
Date published: 2017-04-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Read As a fellow improv actor it is great to get the perspective on the journey of others to get where they are. Amy's story was fun to read and had some really wonderful moments. Thank you for sharing Amy.
Date published: 2017-04-12
Rated 2 out of 5 by from A laugh but nothing more To me, Yes Please reads more like a scatterbrained diary than the well-crafted memoir I had been hoping for. Maybe it was meant to be random and incoherent but it just didn’t work for me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Blah Parade Didn't get this one, though I thought it sounded good. The writing was weaker than I expected and I didn't really take anything away from it. I read it during the same month I read Mindy's first book and Lena Dunham's essays, so maybe the bar was set too high?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Was no Bossypants A good light read, had some funny moments for sure, but in the end, I felt like it was trying to be Bossypants by Tina Fey and failed the mark.
Date published: 2017-03-20
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love Amy She's hilarious and this book is too. So glad I finally picked this up. Not sure if it's offered for e-readers, but I would recommend reading this in paper format. This wasn't a regular book in look or layout, and I think would lose a lot of it's impact on an e-reader.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Regardless of whether you like her comedy, you should read this book. It discusses a lot of things that go beyond her career. If ever you are looking for more life advice, try her Smart Girls At The Party youtube videos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny I was surprised by how the book was written and how funny Amy could be in her writting. I couldn't put it down. It's a must
Date published: 2017-03-11
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Surprised by the tone! I went a bit of a "woman in comedy" biography binge and read this title, along with Kalings, Fey, Dunhams, etc. books and found that this one was the most serious of them all. Don't get me wrong, Lena Dunhams was exactly as preachy as one would expect if your a fan of the show "Girls" but I was a bit surprised about how much sage advice Amy Poehler included in her first book. Definitely not as light as Mindy and Tina, but still some hilarious anecdotes that should be expected. On a different note, the book itself is beautiful. The pages are heavy and glossy, and the photos were bright and sharp - clearly this book was made to be instagrammed (not a bad thing!)

Date published: 2017-03-07
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny This book is times a bit preachy and it meanders a smidge. It's a good light read, but don't expect anything too deep from it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny but nothing to write home about Amy is funny, but she can get very annoying and that is evident in this book.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not very good I thought it would be way funnier. Seemed rushed and unedited.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Light humour read Great and funny read. Light humour meaning I wasn't laughing out loud but I was usually giggling or smirking at the witty and sometimes raunchy admittances by the comedian/actress.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from From someone who doesn't know her work at all Unlike most of the other "celebrity memoirs" I read, this book requires a reader that already know Amy Poehler and her career, which I am not. I enjoyed some of the essays, but most of them kept dropping names of other "famous" people from her circle, people I didn't know either. Her mantra "writing is hard" really got under my nerves too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Amy is not that funny I found a heavy read. Amy is NOT as funny written down as she is when she's playing sketch-comedy characters. There's no Tina Fey to save her here...Skip it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Witty, Hilarious & Helpful Let me start off by saying that I am a HUGE Amy Poehler fan. I think she's smart, beautiful, talented and absolutely hilarious, her humor is a perfect match for mine. She knows what she does well and isn't afraid to use it to her advantage. I think Yes Please is a perfect mix of Poehler's humor and wit while also still providing actual good life lessons. This book felt so incredibly real, which is really important in a book like this. It didn't feel forced, and although I obviously don't know Amy Poehler, it felt like her. I could picture her saying every little thing in this book in my head and it made the experience that much better. I loved getting to read all about her experiences and how she got into the improv/comedy industry. She provided us with an abundance of fun and entertaining stories, there wasn't one part of this book I would label boring. The stories felt genuine and didn't feel like they were just a way to name drop all of the amazing people she's worked with and met. I laughed out loud so many times while reading this, I'm sure more then one person thought I was going crazy. Throughout reading this I found myself consistently taking pictures of passages and sending them to my family and friends. I feel like that's the sign of a great book! Overall, this book is a great balance of witty, funny, personal and entertaining while still offering great insight into maybe taking life a little less seriously. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Poehler, Parks and Rec, or anyone who wants to know more about the industry and get a good laugh

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My favourite memoir I am not a huge fan of memoirs. I've read, more like: I've tried to finish reading, many memoirs but I've always gotten bored after a few chapters. I was a bit iffy about trying this one out but I am glad I did. I love Amy Poehler and her book was incredible. It was oddly relatable and it made me laugh out loud. Yes, it had some dull moments but the jokes made up for it. Truly recommend this book!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed feelings It felt like each chapter of this book was very hit or miss. Some parts were interesting and inspiring, and other parts felt like she was just listing data about her life: then I did this, then I did that. However, for the most part, I did enjoy the book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Times A bit slow to start but picks up quickly with some really funny, engaging stuff. The hardcover is very fancy with its glossy pages but feels a trifle unnecessary.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Was hoping for more I wish I could give this a higher review because I love Poehler, but this was incredibly difficult to get into. I was a bit disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh I'm always interested in reading biographies however it took me awhile to get through this book and I felt lost.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No, thanks. As much as I love Amy Poehler, I didn't love this book. I will reiterate yet again my belief that not all celebrities should write books. Stick to what you know girl!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did not finish this book This book reads as though someone was over Amy's shoulder the entire time demanding that she write faster. If you were expecting a book on par with Bossy Pants, you'll be very disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Refreshing Humour I love Amy Poehler from Parks and Rec and it was interesting to learn about her journey to success and the ups and downs she's had along the way. It was also fun to read how she met many of the individuals who she has become associated with along the way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not her biggest fan BUT... MUST READ! AMAZING! Although I'm not Amy Poehler's biggest fan, after reading Bossy Pants by her best friend Tina Fey, I was very intrigued to pick this up! So glad I did! What a great read!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing I love Amy Poehler and really wanted to like this book, but I found reading it was a drag. The book isn't that funny, relatable or inspiring. I found the book rather disappointing, especially after reading Tina Fey's Bossypants and Mindy Kaling's Is Everybody Hanging Out Without Me?.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dissapointing I absolutely love Amy Phoeler's characters and her talk show personality, but I couldn't find the same "bubbliness" in this book. At times it read more like a resume or a job interview.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed Feelings Nestled in the pages of this book are some really great pieces of advice and words of wisdom from Amy Poehler. She is quite the storyteller. Although I appreciate her honesty and ability to find the good/humour in almost any situation, I wish that she spent a little more time reflecting on other (more serious) side of certain situations. #plumrewards

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inspiring I read this book while I was enduring four days of a power outage after a terrible storm. It was exactly what I needed, fun, light and inspiring. Amy has such a beautiful and positive outlook on life, you can't help but be charmed by her. It did seem slightly self indulgent in a few places..but this is her autobiography after all so I suppose that's to be expected! Overall it is a fantastic, well written book, and I hope she plans on writing another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So good! Love Amy's book. It's definitely on the "fun" read side of things - would have loved a few more personal details but understand the omission, so overall - would totally recommend!
