We’d get to hang out with Amy Poehler, watching dumb movies, listening to music, and swapping tales about our coworkers and difficult childhoods. Because in a perfect world, we’d all be friends with Amy — someone who seems so fun, is full of interesting stories, tells great jokes, and offers plenty of advice and wisdom (the useful kind, not the annoying kind you didn’t ask for, anyway). Unfortunately, between her Golden Globe-winning role on Parks and Recreation, work as a producer and director, place as one of the most beloved SNL alumni and cofounder of the Upright Citizens Brigade, involvement with the website Smart Girls at the Party, frequent turns as acting double for Meryl Streep, and her other gig as the mom of two young sons, she’s not available for movie night.

Luckily, we have the next best thing: Yes Please, Amy’s hilarious and candid book. A collection of stories, thoughts, ideas, lists, and haiku from the mind of one of our most beloved entertainers, Yes Please offers Amy’s thoughts on everything from her “too safe” childhood outside of Boston to her early days in new York City, her ideas about Hollywood and “the biz,” the demon that looks back at all of us in the mirror, and her joy at being told she has a “face for wigs.” Yes Please is a chock-full of words and wisdom to live by.

AMY POEHLERis a writer, actress, producer, and director. She lives in New York City and Los Angeles with her two boys. She hopes this book will get her invited onto her hero Judge Judy’s yacht, Triumphant Lady.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Confess Alright, I was late to the love Amy Pohler show, but I confess, I Love Amy Pohler and this book! Vulnerable, real and informative, it's funny, and takes you through her successes and failures with a positive and grateful outlook.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great book! I have also been a fan of Amy Poehler, I loved her on SNL and in various movies. However, it wasn't until I read this book that I became a huge fan of her! Yes Please has the light hearted comedy that you are used to seeing from Poehler, but it goes further than that. Poehler talks about her life, her struggles, her divorce and it brings to life the real person behind all of the comedy. For these reasons, I felt much more connected to this celebrity and it honestly made me appreciate her work even more. The book is the perfect outlet to make you smile, laugh so hard your stomach hurts, and really think about the little things in life! Also, after reading the book, I also decided to start watching her hit show Parks and Recreation and it quickly became one of my all time favourites! I would strongly recommend this book to others.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny book I like Amy, she's very humorous, but I didn't find it quite as good as other biographies from comedians such as Mindy Kaling

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very funny! this book provides an inside look into one of SNL's greatest female comedians! i really enjoyed reading about amy's life and her relationship with seth meyers and the cast of parks + rec.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Loved Amy and loved reading about her life.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lighthearted and funny read Easy book to pass the time with, and lots of funny parts. Was cool to learn more about who she is as a person, and it felt like she really wrote the book - and didn't just have someone else write the majority of it and then pen her name. Poehler writes an interesting and comedic auto biography that gives women in comedy a great reputation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny If you like Amy Poehler like I do then you'll like this book. It was funny and interesting and overall an enjoyable read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Read Been a huge Amy Poehler fan since she was on SNL, and I really enjoyed reading this book. It did have some dull parts that I didn't find all that interesting, but overall, most of it is quite enjoyable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Read I love Amy Poehler, but that aside this book was a really good read. Light yet thoughtful.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny... If you're a fan I'm not always a fan of Amy Poehler's humour, but I thought I'd give her book a read. Definitely humorous and enjoyable for the most part, but after a while it got to be a little too much Amy for me. You can tell she put the effort into writing it, and I really appreciate that she didn't just slap something together! Not my favourite book, but not my least favourite, either.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A comedian’s life in words and images I really enjoyed reading Amy Poehler’s book. I love that it’s so colourful and that there are two-paged big and bold (literally and figuratively) statements in between like “Figure out what you want. Say it loud. Then SHUT UP.” and “Symmetry is pleasing but not as SEXY”. I also like that it includes stuff like random things she wrote as a child, a signed photo of Omar Little from The Wire, and a letter to her son Archie from Hillary Clinton! Although it was very funny, you could tell how exhausted writing this book made her and she tries to fill it with goodies to take up more space and keep it interesting. I commend her efforts!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Skipped a lot of pages I love Parks and Recreation and think Amy Poehler is one of the funniest female comedians so I was really excited to read Yes Please. It had some funny moments, but it didn't quite have the insight I was hoping for. I didn't walk away feeling like I had learned anything new about Amy. I think I would only recommend this book to serious Amy Poehler fans; some celebrity memoirs can connect with a wider audience, but I don't think this is one of those books. Also, Amy complains constantly about how hard it is to write a book, while writing a book. The first time she mentions it, it was kind of funny but by page 200 it was time to stop writing about it. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amy is a queen. I cannot describe how excited I was when I found out this book was coming out. It did not disappoint. It was both laugh-out-loud funny, and completely real. Amy is one of the few celebrities that I truly look up to and respect. Read this book, just do it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice and fun read If you like Amy you will love this book
Date published: 2017-04-13
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny but not nearly as personal Being Amy Poehler, can't help but be at least a bit funny and it does entertain you at the end of it. The minor quibble is that this wasn't nearly as personal as you would think and that's on purpose as she states in her book that she doesn't want you to know her business. There are many periods in her life that skips over and she goes through a lot of, “Then we got a bigger theater, and then a bigger one, and then I was hired at SNL" without really going in-depth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love Amy She's hilarious and this book is too. So glad I finally picked this up. Not sure if it's offered for e-readers, but I would recommend reading this in paper format. This wasn't a regular book in look or layout, and I think would lose a lot of it's impact on an e-reader.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Regardless of whether you like her comedy, you should read this book. It discusses a lot of things that go beyond her career. If ever you are looking for more life advice, try her Smart Girls At The Party youtube videos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing and Hilarious Amy Poehler is awesome and you need to read this. I've always loved Parks and Rec but didn't know much about Amy Poehler so this was a great way to know more about her.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny I was surprised by how the book was written and how funny Amy could be in her writting. I couldn't put it down. It's a must
Date published: 2017-03-11
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Surprised by the tone! I went a bit of a "woman in comedy" biography binge and read this title, along with Kalings, Fey, Dunhams, etc. books and found that this one was the most serious of them all. Don't get me wrong, Lena Dunhams was exactly as preachy as one would expect if your a fan of the show "Girls" but I was a bit surprised about how much sage advice Amy Poehler included in her first book. Definitely not as light as Mindy and Tina, but still some hilarious anecdotes that should be expected. On a different note, the book itself is beautiful. The pages are heavy and glossy, and the photos were bright and sharp - clearly this book was made to be instagrammed (not a bad thing!)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Funny but nothing to write home about Amy is funny, but she can get very annoying and that is evident in this book.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh... A decent quick and easy read, but I didn't find it as funny as I thought I would.
Date published: 2017-02-28
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Amy is not that funny I found a heavy read. Amy is NOT as funny written down as she is when she's playing sketch-comedy characters. There's no Tina Fey to save her here...Skip it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Laugh out loud This is a laugh out loud book. An entertaining and funny autobiography in which you could tell Amy wrote (mostly) herself. I caught myself lol'ing numerous times with tears of laughter as a result. This book is a must-have for an SNL aficionado anyone who enjoys a good laugh will appreciate this book!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No, Thank You I LOVE Amy Poehler, but I didn't love this book. I didn't laugh much, and I found it a bit hard to read at times. Overall I found it pretty boring, but it's worth a read if you're a fan of hers because she does explain a lot about how she got in to comedy and show business.
Date published: 2015-08-06
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delightfully funny I loved everything about this. The stories, the anecdotes, the advice. She has a wonderful perspective on this world. Just as witty, funny, and charming as you would expect from Amy Poehler.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amy Please! This was such a fun read. I could hear Amy basically reading the book to me in my head so that was awesome. I love her practical advice and hearing about just how hard she had to work to get to where she is. I paused at times to watch YouTube clips of performances she mentioned. The chapter I laughed out loud at was near the end about her boys. Read it and tell me you didn't chuckle. The best piece of advice she gives on career that is applicable to everyone is in the chapter "Treat Your Career Like a Bad Boyfriend". She makes me want a career partner in crime like Tina Fey and her chapter on how cell phones will kill us is hilarious, true and so on point with how we have a love - hate affair with our phones. They drive us crazy yet we can't get rid of them. Definitely a great read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes, please!! Amazing. Life-changing. Inspiring.
Date published: 2014-11-16
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly what I expected from Amy Poehler Amy writes about her boys, her career and her family. She briefly mentions her divorce to Will Arnett, in no specific detail. The majority of the book is her life in showbiz. My favourite part was when Amy gave a detailed intro to each member of the cast of Parks & Recreation and stated 1. Her favourite moment with this person. 2. Something we wouldn't know about that person and 3. The funniest moment on set. I thought this was a great read and it was really funny.
Date published: 2014-11-11
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book! Amy Poehler's voice can be heard when reading the novel. I'm not a big fan of non-fiction, but this was definitely a great read. Funny, clever and honest.
