Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing This speaker had a lot of potential but it fell flat. Flaky Bluetooth that would drop the connection randomly and frequently. From the shear size of this speaker, you would think it would put out some loud music. Well you will be disappointed. There are smaller speakers that put out louder music than the JBL link 20. This speaker is going back

Also if I listen from the phone the sound quality is not same sound like more bass.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just fine, short life Really loved mine but only had it for about 7 months before it totally crapped out on me... I've tried everything to fix it but I guess I gotta get a new speaker. Was great while I had it though, just a reaaaally short life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent speaker, exactly what I was looking for Great quality of sound. Turns off automatically after a certain period of no use when on battery which is great, but connects to the wifi quickly when turned on (~10 secs). Integrated seamlessly with my current home network of 3 google homes. Definitely recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Disappointed I bought this because my daughter has a JBL Flip 4 and I love the Flip 4. I am disappointed so far in the JBL link 20. When I turn the power on, I can’t tell if it’s on when I’m outside. It doesn’t make a sound to alert me that it’s on like the Flip 4. It hasn’t been user friendly!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expand your Google Home I bought the JBL 20 to add on to my Google Home. The main reason was so I could move the JBL 20 wherever we wanted music without plugging it in. Primarily on our patio. The sound quality is better than the Google Home. The battery life is good. Sometimes it will shut off I'm assuming because it thinks you aren't listening and wants to conserve battery. Switching from Bluetooth to WiFi isn't always smooth. But really no complaints... it's great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Balanced sound The speaker is loud enough for what I use it for but what really makes it is the sound quality. It's probably not the loudest on the market but it's a well balanced sound that comes out. Low, mid and highs are all crisp and clear!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Impossible to setup with google home app Bought this less than a month ago, I still can'd get the device to setup correctly to google home app on my phone. I've tried rebooting the device, reseting the device, checking all settings on my router, resetting my router, went through many many google searches for help on this, nothing works. I will most likely try to return this if I can't get it to work within this week. Very frustrating as I love the sound quality on this device...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wake up JBL! The Link 20 goes to sleep after 10 mins so it's not really a voice assisted device. It's a "Push the button on the top and wait a while for it to reconnect to WIFI and become a voice assisted device device" Per JBL Support (6/20/19) you can't change the built-in sleep mode. So, don't expect this to replace a Google Home device.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great when it works First, the good: the speaker sounds very good for it's size. When it works, I have really enjoyed having something that's a big step above my old bluetooth speakers. But almost every day, I have problems connecting to Google Home. I have reset it, reinstalled the app, and gone through the setup process a few times, and yet I still can't reliably connect to it even when I'm >2 feet from my router. Then, when I do connect to it, it doesn't always keep up with the music that is playing, so I'll have to exit out of the app and try to reconnect so that I can see which song is playing. Very annoying. Second, most of the time it will play music just fine, but every few days, it will decide to play a few songs and then crackle with static when playing back, both through Google Play and through Spotify. It's very frustrating and since I don't really know the cause of it, I haven't been able to identify a solution. I just purchased this a couple of weeks ago and I think I'll be returning it and hope to get a better quality speaker in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love that JBL and Google Home came together Would be great if the JBL Link 20 had an 3.5mm auxiliary input as well, just a touch more bass, and an intuitive way to turn off the WiFi antenna to save battery in Bluetooth mode.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ok Purchased but not the level of sound expected for the cost; not a very loud speaker, quality sound for sure, but not loud enough for a beach or other outdoor environment

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best smart speaker I bought the Link 20 about 3 weeks ago now and the sound is just as wonderful as any of my other jbl products. I wish it had a way to turn off wifi so I could make it a take around speaker but that is not the case so I leave it at home. Google Assistant still has a ways to go but its nice having it around, I get to be all the more lazy by using my voice LOL. But at the end of the day item was worth the money and I am glad that I bought it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super great price for what you get. Never had a Google assistant before or a high quality speaker. This is a game changer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound, good software First - the sound is the best you're going to get at this price and size with an assistant-enabled device. Hands down, you won't do better. The software is very good, but sometimes drops wi-fi and a long distance and it takes ~10 seconds to reconnect. Once connected, playback is seamless. Certainly recommended unless you must have a hardwired version, go for the Link 300.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sent it back Google home sounded better and jbl turns itself off even when plugged in so it wasn’t good for home assistance. Also some power issues aside from just that. Search google

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for a year Hi, I have had the speaker for almost a year without problems. However, since a few months ago, when the speaker is charging it makes a very annoying whistling sound, It is not loud, but you can definitely heard it at night when everything is quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Google Assistant feature is Great! I am happy with my product. I listen to my music on the JBL Link 20 all the time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Most horrible The sound is pretty good after they sent me a unit that actually worked. The first wouldn't pair, so they had to send me another one. The microphone is horrible. It can't hear my voice from 6 feet away when any music is playing. "Ok Google pause"... "OK GOOGLE PAUSE!" super frustrating. Google Home and Mini both do not have that problem. There is no sensitivity adjustment on the JBL.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sound not bad as rewieved another users I bought it couple weeks ago. Sound can be louder, but not bad, good Bass. Sometime Google assistant doesn't hear me through the sound. I planned to use it for music, its ok.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deep Full Sound As like the JBL Control Monitors I have owned for years, this Bluetooth speaker takes clean wireless sound to the next level. Very pleased with purchase.
Date published: 2019-04-09
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sound quality is a little disappointing. I snagged one of these on sale because I've been so impressed with the sound quality of my Flip 3 and wanted a bigger unit with a few more features. This Link 20 doesn't have the same clarity and sound quality as the Flip 3. I expected more from the size and price point of this speaker. I get crackles and pops at medium-high volume.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sound, Convenient Portability Sound is great and Google Assistant functionality works well. It's attractive and solidly built, but not too heavy/bulky to carry around.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great when it works Ive used this speaker for the past week. Unfortunately it doesn't always work. It doesn't always connect to Google assistant. Sometime or will connect but won't be recognised in Google home. Other times it will just say something like oops something went wrong try again in a few seconds. It then requires a restart. The auto off function is annoying, especially of you just want a remote Google home speaker for a whole, and can't be turned off. Overall when it works, the sound quality is pretty good, especially for a speaker of its size and the far field mix is excellent. I was thinking of getting a second for stereo, but it's just too glitchy for the price, unreliable and the permanent auto off function is a deal breaker.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good sound quality! everything else sucks! I got this for Christmas and set it up with my Google assistant but it wouldn't sync up with any of my devises or accounts which made the Google feature utterly useless. I didn't think this was big deal considering I don't use google assistant very often but I recently took it on a camping trip and it wouldn't let me turn it off to conserve battery so it was completely dead when I got to where I was going. When I got home I plugged it back in and it made me set it up with Google home again but it won't connect. The only way to use the speaker is with the blue tooth however it's apparently turns off now that google assistant is not turned on and it takes a few minutes to turn on which is frustrating when your getting ready for work and want to hear some music which is really all its good for at this point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound and great battery! The soundlink 20 is a good size for a portable speaker with the sound quality it possesses. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well so far, one wish... This works well so far. It picks up my voice from another room when I say "hey google", but I'm actually talking to a Google home mini in the same room as I'm in! Outdoors, it doesn't pick up my voice quite as well yet, but it might be where we have to set it now. My only wish is that the volume control through Google home changed in smaller increments. For example, if we say "Hey Google, volume UP", it jumps up more than we wish it did. Same for down. We have found it better to say it in increments of percentages, like "Hey Google, volume 65 percent". JBL shipped it out very fast, too, with rapid shipping, too.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Missing Features I bought this roughly one month ago. The google voice activation features work fine. However, the equalizer feature available within the Google Home App does not work with any JBL Link products. This is disappointing as the bass response from this speaker is lacking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! Amazing sound with all the smart features I want. Looks really cool and works perfectly with Google assistant. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible step and it disconnects and no reconnect DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! It is faulty. It initially connected to my home wireless AP using Google Home app and then a week later failed to connect. We re-used Google Home app and stepped thru all the correct steps and the device isn't recognized by the Google Home app. I then looked for resolutions online/blogs and found hundreds of people with the exact same problem, who spent needless hours with no resolve. Unfortunately, even on the Google Home blog the Google support person gave the wrong answer - Oh, it's not our problem it's JBL Speakers problem, contact them....but with no update to JBL Speaker of this problem and no contact to JBL Speaker support. THIS IS A JOINT PROBLEM. When JBL licensed Google Assistant and implemented it using Google's specs and requirements, then it "works". However, it doesn't work!!!, so how did this JBL Speaker using Google Assistant specs and requirements end up not working???, yet is certified to work with the Google Home app as stated in the JBL "Get Started" overview. Until you see ALL users stating what a great experience they've had using this product with the Google Home app, DO NOT buy this product - both Google and JBL Speaker need to work together to resolve this problem. You'll have hours of frustration. The problem may be in that JBL Speaker doesn't have rights to use Google Home app and Google made modifications to their app to make this a problem, or JBL Speaker was never certified with Google accessories once the implementation was completed. I've worked in tech for over 25 years, and to run across this issue (for the price of this speaker) here in Dec 2018 is stupidity as its worse. First there are too many screen to pass thru on the Google Home app, and then it goes into a nonsense circular loop where the device cannot be found, and there is no solution from Google nor from JBL Speaker. Google isn't owning the problem and I have found nothing online thru other blogs that tells me JBL Speaker is owning the problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound. Responds well to verbal commands. I love this Bluetooth and wifi speaker. It fills the room with quality sound that is much better than a phone speaker. I only wish it would automatically switch from one wifi to another without having to be set up each time I change locations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All round great speaker The good.. Good sound quality, better than the Sonos One I currently use. For a portable speaker the sound quality is above par in comparison to others in the market at its price. Fantastic unboxing experience with quality packaging to protect the device along with postage packaging to protect the product packaging giving peace of mind for gifting. Extremely easy setup with Google Home as I already have a Google account. I've only played music to 45% of the volume range which is more than sufficient for me, I look forward to seeing its full capacity soon. Soft touch control buttons are a dream to use giving an elegant and quality feel. The bad.. I've been running it for one day, thus far every YouTube/Instagram video has featured Bluetooth latency. I've tried restarting the device and my phone but the problem has yet to resolve itself. This is a common issue amongst all Bluetooth enabled devices so I do expect this issue to stop occurring in a day or two. Uses micro USB which is pretty inconvenient as most devices feature USB C. Google Assistant vs Alexa.. I already have an alexa, as for voice recognition and search capabilities I personally favour the Google assistant. Though I will continue to use the Alexa Dot and this JBL Link in parallel. Unfortunately when I say "hey Google" my phone and the speaker pick me up.. So be sure to hit the mute button on the speaker when you're allowing a friend to play from the speaker via Bluetooth to not interrupt the music! Overall, highly recommend. Would have been cool to gotten some JBL stickers in the box though. If you want a smart speaker you can bring to a friends house conveniently or blast some hits when out and about, this is the speaker for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great speaker not the greatest bass I bought this recently and all I have to say is that google assistant works amazing with google home, it streams YouTube and Netflix on your chrome cast by making a simple command , bass is not the best but has good sound , overall this speaker is great to have assistance in your daily life

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sounds good but serious quality control issues I wanted to like this speaker; I really did. I own a Google home mini & love it. I tried the normal-sized Google Home since I wanted a second Google Assistant device with better sound quality, and, while that device worked brilliantly, the sound quality was a bit too muddy for me. The JBL seemed perfect as it retained most of the same features, and was portable as well. The sound quality of the Link 20 is brilliant as would be expected from JBL, but, after exchanging one Link 20 due to the random popping noise that others have described, only to find a completely different electrical problem with this second one, I just can't recommend it as there seems to be a legitimate issue with the way these things are designed/engineered. As stated before, the first speaker sounded great, but had constant popping during music playback, and the second speaker makes a very noticeable high pitched ringing sound whenever plugged in & charging. It's not really noticeable when actual music is playing, but any time it's not playing and the device is plugged in, the constant ringing is just too annoying to deal with. Again, I really wanted to like this device, but unfortunately, they're junk. They need some engineering fixes to take place.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will not play Spotify Playlists I have 3 Google Home Speakers and a JBL Link 20. The Google Home Speakers play my Spotify Playlists but the JBL Link 20 will not. JBL Support comfirms that it will not play Spotify Playlists unless you have premium. For me this is a significant feature gap when compared with the Google Home Speakers. I have asked JBL if they plan to fix the issue and if JBL are using old Google Assistant software.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needs Bluetooth Voice Call Functionality Have been using a Link 20 for >2months. The main thing it lacks is bluetooth voice call functionality with a phone or computer pairing. I just assumed that this was a feature given that it has a great microphone for use with Google Assistant and bluetooth connection. @JBL please upgrade/update the firmware to include this feature! Additionally the Link 20 has an issue with selecting and switching the input (bluetooth or chromecast). If your phone automatically connects to the Link 20, then you will have to disconnect or forget it in bluetooth settings to be able to play chromecast. Otherwise, my Link 20 has been a great addition to my home audio configuration because it easily assimilated into my array of chromecast audio group(s). Additionally it travels well and has great battery life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does everything I need I just bought this a few days ago and I must say I am impressed. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sounds Good - Missing Some Google Home Features Device sounds good, sounds really good outdoors, has strong volume and good quality. Also has strong battery life, works great for music and some questions. It's missing a couple things. 1) It can't do speakerphone over Bluetooth (that's silly), 2) it can't do Google Home calls over internet like a Google Home or Google Mini can, 3) you can't adjust the EQ settings on this device like a Google Device, 4) I don't think it does alarms and reminders the same as a Native Google Home device. Would be nice if JBL would open up most of that. I also suspect that it gets crackly at times when the wifi connection is slow. Almost sounds like a blown speaker, but then it'll go away...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The thing is possessed Worked fine for the first few weeks, then sunddenly one night it just kept constantly saying “hi I’m your google assistant...” garbage over and over again, with litterally only 5-10 seconds in between each one. I don’t want to download the app. I just want to connect it via Bluetooth to my computer. It kept going for litterally hours. Keeping both me and my roomate up half the night. Eventually It died thank god but In the morning it’s going in the trash.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Speaker Pros/Cons Pros: Plenty of features (Google assistant, weather updates, voice commands, etc.) Crisp and clear sound quality even with volume all the way up. Well built!!! Long battery life. WATERPROOF!!!!!!! Love this speaker. I brought it with me and attached it to my cooler tube while I floated the river recently. Spent all day with it in sun and listened to music the entire 5 hour float at full volume. Held up through all the water getting splashed on it and halfway submerged in water for a bit. I never let it get completely submerged because even though It is waterproof and can be submersed for a little while I didn't want to test it and it break. Use this at home, in garage while working on projects, in the bathroom as I shower, at the office when I am at work. All around a great product. Cons: Ease of use and set up a little difficult. Works better as a speaker that is kept in one place vs. one that is toted everywhere. Requires Google Home app to set up. Could be a littler louder, with MORE BASS NEEDED.

I bought this for the bedroom, and now I’m disappointed because it won’t let me set the alarm with my Google Home system. But the speakers itself sounds great. Is there a fix for this?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bass and Speech Recognition Have Alexa 2nd gen upstairs but didn't like her ability to answer questions as well as google can. I was looking for better sound quality, portability and intelligence. This is working out great for asking questions during cooking, playing music inside and outside. Only thing I had to do was turn off the hands free ok google on my phone so it doesn't interfere with the device.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing I've been using the Link 20 for a few months now. I'm pretty disappointed in the sound quality. I expected a lot more from the JBL name. I got the speaker because of it's portability and ability to sync with my other chromecast speakers. The audio sounds muffled. My Google Home sounds way better than the Link 20. The google assistant is slow and doesn't always work. I've also experienced some dropped audio from the speaker as well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works good but talkback is too loud The product is wonderful since it connects to google assistant no problem but it doesn't support night mode so anytime I ask it to turn on or off lights i get a very loud "OK TURNING OFF 2 LIGHTS". The regular google home has the night m ode feature which allows you to adjust the volume of the voice speaking back to you or even turn it off but the JBL link 20 doesn't support it yet. This would be a hands down 5 star product if it could support night mode.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Google assistant can't even make a call I'm sorry, but as much as I paid for these speakers I should be able to at least make a phonecall like I can with my Google home speakers. The integration of Google on this thing is not great. Also, I keep occasionally hearing this static noise when I play music.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing speaker, google assistant lacking I bought this speaker because of all the features as a smart speaker and portable Bluetooth speaker. So far I have loved this speaker as far as all of its hardware and uses. The biggest problem has been the google assistant. It hasn’t gotten all of the features yet (I can’t even set an alarm yet) from google. I am sure that these features will come in time, but so far it has been frustrating to attempt to use the assistant and be told “I don’t support that yet” over and over. Once a few updates come out, I would 100% recommend this speaker or the link 10 counterpart.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great concept, but serious quality issues I also have the popping/crackling sound issue that others report. Pops, speaker gives out, then comes back crackling and distorted. It's impossible to listen to. Returning on warranty (I hope). Bought the Link 20 direct from JBL and was very happy with the purchase. Then the alarm stopped working, but I figured it was a Google/JBL firmware issue that would be resolved. That was about three months ago. So that's phone calls and alarm that are disabled. I wonder what is next. It just seems to not be worth the money and has somewhat soured me on the whole JBL experience.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wonderful device, but it ain't quite there yet. I've had my Link 20 for a couple of weeks now. I love the sound quality, battery life, and the Google assistant is mostly brilliant. But there are some pretty major disappointments. First is the lack of support for sleep timers. Second is the inability to wake the speaker from Google Assistant, which wouldn't be a bother if the speaker remained on if connected to its charger. One of the uses I have for the speaker is voice control for the lights in my bedroom. I would like the speaker much more if I could say, "Ok Google, turn on the lights" when I get up while it's still dark. Works fine at bedtime, but it doesn't respond at 0530.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sounds Amazing, Google Assistant needs improvement I have had the JBL 20 for over 1 month. I held off on a quick review, because I wanted to give the best review as possible for this device. First off, I did not want to have a "Big Brother" device. I am an IT guy and never really liked the idea of someone listening in. My wife, on the other hand, is a stay at home mom, with 2 very young boys, who are running/crawling around. With all the messes/cooking and all of that, I thought it would be nice for her to have something "hands free" This is more of her review as she uses it more than I, but she has used it for over a month, and she has had plenty to say. Second, I think all of these Google/Alexa speakers are all the same. They are in the beginning stages, and there is much need for improvement on all of them. I gave this product a 4 star rating because if you take away the frustration of learning how the Google piece works, it is a great sounding speaker... Third, I really wanted to love this speaker. Actually, I wanted my wife to love this speaker. You can connect to all of your music stations....Spotify, Google Music, Pandora....But the speaker gets confused and unless you clarify. Example: Hey Google, play Jingle Bells. It will only play this 1 song unless you say, play Jingle Bells on Spotify or play Jingle Bells radio. You have to be very specific. I think it is a learning curve, which makes sense. But it can become frustrating. The other part that is a little tough, is that you have to be clear and fairly close to the speaker when you say "Hey Google". Im talking 10ft away tops, unless you yell pretty loud. Also, that is to be expected, but again, frustrating. I find myself repeating "Hey Google" numerous times. Lastly, and to make this as easy to read as possible, i have listed my Pros and Cons. I hope this helps. Pros: 1. Hands Free 2. Sounds fantastic 3. Ability to turn off Google Assistant and connect via bluetooth 4. You can play 1 speaker via BT in one room, and still use this speaker via WiFi 5. Connects to multiple radio stations, which makes it easier to find the song 6. Ask it any question, it will search, and give you an answer(instructions for a recipe for example) 7. Google learns more and performs better the longer you use it 8. Battery life is good (8-10 hours) 9. Looks very nice/elegant/expensive Cons: 1. You must be close to device 2. You must be clear on your request 3. Have to say "Hey Google" multiple times. Doesn't always hear you 4. No option to connect to multiple speakers (JBL Connect +) I hope this review has been helpful. I love JBL products and would recommend any speaker for sound alone. Quality is always top-notch. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Sound for Google Home We installed Google Home for Christmas this year. One of my wife's requirements was to be able to play music anywhere in the house. After some research, I decided to save a little money and get portable speakers of good quality rather than the much-more-expensive stationary speakers. Found the Link 20's favorably reviewed almost universally and have always been a JBL fan, so I took a chance and got a pair of them to be the backbone of our music streaming entertainment. Man, am I glad I did! The sound is verging on phenomenal for speakers this size. Currently have four speakers "attached" to Google Home. My two JBL portables and two Google Home devices and have them set up individually and in groups to allow us play music where we are and throughout the house. The Links fold seamlessly into the Google Home app. That is, you don't have to install a separate JBL app on your phone to use them. This is nice since most other devices do require an app. My single complaint of the product is that it must be plugged in to be "always on". If running on battery, it will shut down after being dormant for a time. While I understand the logic of this, the complaint is that the cable for the power adapter is too short for use anywhere. And, I'm not sure why anyone would do this, but, the power adapter and cable are day glow orange. This is minor and more of an annoyance than a real issue. So, if you're on the fence, jump. You've found your wireless, blue tooth, water proof, portable speaker solution. Am currently, seriously, considering a Link 300 - the bigger, much more expensive stationary speaker JBL offers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent sound quality, interesting device I've taken a bit longer to write this review, because I've never owned a product with Google Assistant or that uses Google Home and I wanted to take some time familiarize myself with it's features and functions. Overall, I really like the LINK 20. Much of the reason for that is the familiar JBL build quality and the wonderfully rich sound it produces. Of course, my kids love to interact with Google when it is turned on. Unfortunately, there are a few "bugs" that I attribute more to Google Assistant than to JBL. One such issue is that every other time that I turn it on, it can't seem to connect and will sit blinking until I turn it off and then back on again. I haven't quite been able to determine what causes it or how to prevent it. Also, the Google Home app suggest that it can make calls for me, and I believe that I have given it appropriate permissions and access to contacts, yet the device declares that it "can't make calls yet". On the other side of the coin though, I was able to integrate it with my Vivint home security system, which was easy to set up and works flawlessly. I do not yet have Chromecast, but intend to invest in one so that it can also control our television. So far, we love to have it in our kitchen (central command in our home) and use it frequently for news in the morning with our coffee, and background music throughout the day using one of the many compatible music apps. If you're looking for a Google Home smart speaker, I can't think of any reason that JBL shouldn't be on the top of your list. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressive sound For my review I’m going to try and focus on the hardware and not so much google assistant. Though I found it to be pretty impressive but nothing that made it stand out from Amazon Alexa. First off the build quality was what I noticed first pulling it out of the box. It felt and looked top notch. I’d say better then my Amazon Echo. Plus I won’t mind sitting the Link 20 next to the sink since it is waterproof. Which I think is a must have for a smart speaker that lives in the kitchen. But that’s the beauty of the Link 20. I can unplug and take it wherever I go. Shower, outdoors, I love that it’s portable. Next was the sound. I thought the sound quality was exceptional for a smart speaker. I mean they have to cram so much more into these things, the sound usually suffers. Next to my Echo, it was a lot louder and crisper. I did wish the bass was a little more substantial. It was the only thing I noticed in my sound tests. But at high volumes the Link 20 performed very well. Having had used the Echo for a year plus, I thought the volume controls were cumbersome on the Link 20. The Echo has a dial control, which easily rotates left or right to increase/decrease volume. While the Link 20 has very traditional controls with separate volume buttons. To increase or decrease you have to hold down either button and wait a couple seconds before it will change. Or you can keep pressing either button over and over. Compared to the Echo volume controls it felt like a step backwards. Another thing that bothered me was the inability to see at a glance what the battery level was. There are lights on the back of the unit. But they only seem to turn on when charging the unit. Overall it seems like a great addition to any smart home. Even if you already have an Echo device. It’s been fun seeing which assistant is better. Alexa or google. But as of now, no clear winner in my opinion. They both can control my smart home devices, play music, start timers, and answer basic questions. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Portable smarts and great sound! To start off, I'll just say the Link 20 is an excellent speaker in and off itself. The sound is excellent, theres no real distortion at higher volumes and those higher volumes are pretty satisfyingly high. So as someone who straight loves their (rock) music, its already brilliant. The addition of Google smarts to this speaker is the icing on the cake as far I'm concerned. Its great to have all those features and to be able to comfortably shift that functionality to whichever room I want, along with my music. So to cap it off, I'd definitely recommend this speaker to anyone looking to get a smart speaker but also better sound. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smart and Powerful This is the best sounding and most useful Bluetooth speaker I have experienced. First, the sound is amazing. JBL did it again with the Link 20 speaker. Great soundstage that fills any room in my house. The battery life is great. JBL claims 10hrs and that sounds about right. The Link 20 has a fabric around it,and rubber on the top and bottom, that is great for its IPX7 water and dust proof rating. I did submerge it in water and it was easy to dry off. Now for its smarts! I have been using Google Assistant on my phone for awhile now. You do not know until you use this feature, just how useful this is on Link speaker. I just say "hey google" play Netflix on my TV and it opens Netflix. I can even ask for a specific show. I use the casting feature to play my playlist and my wife's. The assistance knows who is talking and picks up our playlists. I can go on and on about Google Assistant, and it keeps getting better. From casting music, controlling smart home devices, checking my calendar, checking and creating appointments, and the list goes on. This is what makes the Link speaker stand out. I love what Google is doing with partnering up with the people at JBL that makes a great sounding portable speaker and putting their assistant in it. This is a great relationship, that produced a great speaker. I can not say enough about the Link 20 and cannot recommend it enough! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good build but software not ready.... After owning the Charger 2+ and Charger 3, I love to sound quality. I also own a couple of Google Home Mini. Love the functionality but want better sound for streaming music. So, The Link 20 would be a great fit. But I didn't impress with it. The sound part is great, much like the Charger. JBL may have rushed it a little. First, poor documentation. What provided is more like a Quick Start rather than a details User Manual. The setup is very easy when first started. Then a few hours later, it tells me it cannot connect to the internet. I have to go into Google Home from my phone to run setup again. I also lost Bluetooth connection to my TV transmitter, which I still don't know how to re-connect it. So far, I found a couple of Google Home functions missing on the Link: 1) Can't make call. 2) Can't do Broadcast. I don't think the Link is ready for consumers. I'm planning to return it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Looking, Great sounding, and helpful! I received this speaker a little over a week ago. This is my second JBL Bluetooth speaker, I have a Flip 4, which is great! The feel, look, and construction of this thing is fantastic. It feels and looks durable, yet nice enough to put on the coffee table of your nicest living rooms. I have been an Android user for years, and currently have a Pixel 2. So using the Google Assistant came very easy to me. In my opinion, its better than the other two options. I have yet to use it off of AC power, so I can't speak for the battery life, but if it's anything like my Flip 4, it will be great. It seamlessly connects to Google Home via my Pixel 2. It is very easy to operate, and becomes easier as you go. It will even help you. Sound Quality is good, but not if you're very close to the front. The speakers are on the side, which in a corner of a room works great, but not so much on a desk in front of you.. It goes pretty loud without distortion and still has a good, full range sound. Overall this is a great "smart" speaker. I would definitely recommend it to someone looking for something small, powerful, and useful. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clear/loud sound and it controls my TV The link 20 is pretty awesome. I was excited when Google came out with a smart speaker and planned on getting one but when I saw JBL had a version with the google assistant coming out I decided to wait and I'm glad I did. The speaker is virtually the same as a google home speaker but the sound is louder, and in my opinion better, and you can take it on the go because of it's rechargeable battery. I listen to wayyyyy more music now because it is so easy to just say "Hey Google, play my spotify" and boom your music instantly starts playing. I also own a chromecast for my TV which can be controlled by the speaker (play, pause, rewind, fastforward). This is my favorite feature of the speaker, before I'd have to open the google home app on my phone, wait for it to find the chromecast and then pause it. This makes it so much easier/quicker. I haven't used this speaker on the go much yet but it's definitely built for it. Usually I play music right off the speaker (because it's connected to my wifi) but JBL made sure that if you take it on the go, where you don't have an internet connection, you can just use the bluetooth on it like a regular portable speaker and play music from your phone. The google home speaker can't do that. The only annoying thing about the speaker (why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) is that I am unable to sync it up with any of my other JBL speakers. I'm fairly certain it will sync up with any speakers that have chromecast but I haven't been able to sync with any bluetooth speakers. Overall I'm very happy with this speaker and all my friends who bought the google home are jealous. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, awesome Google home plus Bluetooth! I have been an avid Google home user for over a year but have been disappointed by both the lack of portability and more importantly the inability to use it as a Bluetooth speaker. To solve the problem I purchased a JBL Go but too many devices to cart around. To the rescue arrives the JBL Link 20. My first impression was the attention to detail of the packaging. Wonderfully presented. After opening I was impressed by the sturdiness of the product. Very solid construction and waterproof to boot. After firing up my Google Home app I was quickly connected and experienced the wonderful sound and functionality that linked my google acount music to the device. Of course the real test would be the Bluetooth. A quick push of the button on the top of the device, enable BT on my phone and immediate success! My phone normally takes a few tries to sync up but this connected the first time and every time since. The next test was portability. After a full charge I head out to the Disc Golf course with my Link 20 strapped on, Bluetooth connected and my music library streaming it was a great day on the course. After a multi-hour round the Link 20 only seemed to be about 20-30% drained. Even the little rain that fell could not dampen the mood because of the Link 20's waterproof ability :) Also a great addition to my workshop/garage, especially after I invest in google home controlled lighting and other home controls. This is the perfect complement of in home assistant, Bluetooth, sound quality and portability. I highly recommend. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

It seems durable like all my other JBL products it even says it's water resistant - Nice! I would like to use it when making phone calls from my phone like I do with my JBL Flip 3 but not sure if that is an option although I can't imagine why it wouldn't be. I would also like it to link with my other speakers like the flip. Maybe these will be options in the future. All in all it seems to be another solid product from the JBL line! Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome with one drawback Overall this a great speaker. It has a solid build and great loud and clear sound with easy to use functions but the Bluetooth needs improvement. But overall great stuff [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The best Google Home unit available today We have a little Google Home unit, and it's great but the sound quality is only OK, and it isn't portable. The Link 20 sounds really good, more than what you would probably expect from such a small speaker. Being portable is super convenient and we can bring it by the pool and not worry that our 2 year old is going to throw it in the water (which he already has, many many times.) Our 4 year old nephew can already operate it and asks for his favorite songs. We really like the Link 20 a lot. It's perfect for families with young ones. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't be any Better!!! This is one speaker everyone should have. JBL link 20, has met my expectations by far.. the Google assistant is a very cool feature, from weather, to Spotify. Really easy buttons to use. Awesome quality sound, the bass when using it with the TV was just amazingly better than I expected. JBL as exceeded my expectations. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is surely going to be a top seller. The JBL Link 20 is a first class product. I have only had this speaker for 3 days. So far it has out preformed the specs it advertises. I was able to get 12 hours off a full charge at 1/2 volume. Which is loud enough to fill the room. The sound is phenomenal. I played everything from heavy metal to ambient music. Not to much bass nor tinny. Have not fully set up Google home yet. I will report back with the review later. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice speaker Imo, this is a great speaker, with amazing sound quality. The bass reaches deep enough, but is lacking a bit of punch, the mids are clean and clear, and the highs are crisp and show a lot of definition. The transducers on the sides really help with the immersive sound, and some how create the effect of a surround system. The features are great as well. The waterproofing, the battery life, and the Google assistant are all great features. This may not be the fault of JBL, but it is really hard to set up on the Google home app. I set it up, and it says the setup wasn't successful. It is really annoying at this point, but it is still an outstanding sounding speaker, with some great features. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound Great sound all around connect to wifi without any problem. Google assistant works good even while playing music at low volumes, sound is very clear. I didn't even hear cracking once on this speaker, you can count on jbl when it comes to audio systems [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blown away First I have to say, wow! The sound is loud, lacking bass response compared to my charge 2 especially for it's size, which could be heard through out the house. It was easy to set up both Bluetooth and my network. Just simply download the app and follow the instructions. It came fully charged. It has indication lights for all necessary things such as wifi, Bluetooth, and power. Buttons on top give you access to all features as well. As far as the Google part, it is what you expect from OK Google. The quality is there as far as outside appearance. I am thinking this is a great start to a new field of operation as far as speakers. Pros ~ Very loud clear treble and mids, easy setup, looks are nice too. Looks like a Jbl product. Plus it's portable. Physical buttons for everything. Cons ~ Lacking bass response for it size, battery life could be better. Overall ~ Having an echo and this in the same home, I will ask OK Google about more things than Alexa, that's for sure. Rated 3 out of 5 by from not always listening The link 20 is a good speaker with great sound. I find that when plugged in or on battery, the speaker turns off after a period off inactivity. have to get up and turn back on and wait about 1 minuet for it to connect. That defeats the purpose of having a google assistant speaker. when I am elsewhere in or outside of house sitting down, I want to be able to ask google assistant to do something like turn on lights or play a song. I can walk to light switch in same time as it takes to turn on link 20. Thats the charm off having a google home speaker, always listening for when you need it for something. understand it has portable battery, but should not turn off just to save battery. when plugged in it should always stay on. Do not think many people will buy speaker when 3rd part companies have already started making battery basses for google home. I got it for battery and portability. will stick with a google home for now!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Portable Home Powerhouse I picked up a link 20 as soon as i could find one. I already have 2 Google Home units in the house for music and home control uses. The wireless ( in all meanings) capability allows me to take the functionality anywhere. The patio for brunch or the garage when working on a project. Anywhere I have Wi-Fi. The sound is quite good and so far has functioned just like my Google Home units just more portable. Good Job JBL
