Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed! I ordered 4 Link 500's and 4 Link 300's to cover audio for my entire house and I could not be happier. The 500 has decent heft and build quality feels very sturdy. Audio quality has been wonderful thus far. The 500 can definitely hit the low bass notes with ease and will also overpower smaller rooms effortlessly even at 50% volume. I am incredibly happy with this purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great sound, poor Google Home function I bought the JBL Link 500 a few weeks Ago and am impressed with the sound quality and loudness (seems to be much better about 6” from wall versus against it). The google home functionality is much worse than a stand alone google home, this I have been disappointed with, seems to not recognize commands are for “itself” and will often play requests on other google device in house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the link 500 I have a few of the jbl link products the link 10, 20 and 300 and love them. The link speakers sound great. I have the right size speakers for the respective rooms problem is the the kids love the speakers also and keep moving them around and taking them with them. I purchase the link 500 to replace 2 link 20 in the family room. The 500 sounds great it fills the room pluse you can hear it on the back deck with the windows open. Being that it’s a bigger speaker the kids dont move it around so the speaker is always available. The whole family uses this speaker every day and we have a big family 6 kids and all there friends.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful sound I have had this unit for a few weeks now. It was a peice of cake to setup, at least as easy as any other google device. Bluetooth pairing was also straightforward. The only issue I am having has to to with personized responses. It seems to only be able to recognize one of use but not the other. This is not a problem on any of my Google devices. The sound quality is excellent and the low end response is terrific. Just wish it had an audio in jack so I could use it with more things.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solid Product This is a great home speaker that receives the audio signal wirelessly. The setup - I used my Android Phone, was much easier than I thought. Linking or connecting the Google Assistant to my Spotify account was easy. I've only had it a week. The only downside I can see is no real EQ. As another reviewer stated, it's heavy on the bass, and the music I most listen to doesn't need that much bass. I would love to see an outdoors /patio link product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You have to get one! My first impression upon taking the Link 500 out of the box was how large it is - it is bigger than it looks in pictures and is fairly hefty. That was a good sign for me! I placed the speaker on a table behind one of the den chairs - so it is essentially out of sight (a wife requirement). Setting it up from there was easy. I plugged it in, downloaded the Google Home app*, followed the app's instructions, and that was it. It only took 2 or 3 minutes. (*Actually, I had already downloaded the Google Home app for use with a Chromecast Audio I had purchased previously.) Being an audio guy, the first thing I wanted to do was play some music. I was very happy to find that the Link 500 has Spotify built-in, especially since that is my streaming service of choice! I started out easy by asking Google to play “some Diana Krall” while I was cooking dinner. No problems there. I then followed that command by asking it to play a specific song – Midnight Rider – off of the Gregg Allman album Laid Back. The Link 500 handled that and similar request easily. The sound is very, very nice. I had previously experienced this kind sound in my den with some of my small to midsized bookshelf speakers (including JBL's). The Link 500 replaced those speakers and went on to fill my large living room (400 sq ft) with excellent sound without taking up near as much space. The music playing filled the den with clear sound at even low volumes without being overbearing. The bass was smooth and the highs were crisp and clear without distortion. I had previously relied on a ZAGG Origin Portable Bluetooth Speaker to stream music in the den and its smaller version in the master bathroom. Those speakers are not voice activated however and they do not offer a mobile interface. Listening to the Link 500 and the larger ZAGG for ten minutes, I realized that I was more at ease with the sound produced by the Link 500. Even the most over-the-top songs (think Brass Monkey by the Beastie Boys) were enjoyable even at high volume. The Link 500 is the first voice activated speaker I’ve used. The only thing that comes close was Siri on my iPhone. I thought that speaking to the speaker would be difficult as, in my limited experience, voice activated products leave a lot to be desired. That was not a problem with the Link 500. After its initial voice training, it recognized my “Hey Google” commands every time – whether shouted over the railing upstairs to almost whispering it in the same room. I was impressed! Other than my requests to play specific pieces of music, I typically used the built-in Google Assistant to make requests about the weather and to set timers. I did put it through its paces by requesting such things as: the temperature of the dark side of Mercury, the distance to a certain address in a distant city and even the meaning of the initials JBL – which it answered perfectly – James Bullough Lansing! To sum up, I find that the JBL Link 500 is a good-looking speaker and is very simple to operate. It also has excellent built in capabilities and when it is playing music it is really impressive. In other words, you have to get one! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice sounding voice-activated speaker This is my first experience with the Google Assistant built into a speaker. The voice activation works well and responds promptly. Even when the music is playing (I tested up to about 2/3 volume) it can detect the activation phrase and the temporarily reduce the volume to complete a command. The bass speaker is exposed in the back and as an admirable "punch" for a speaker of it's size. The speaker provides verbal instructions for intiial setup and works well with Google Chromecast or Bluetooth devices. (As I only have one speaker I did not test the link functionality.) I was able to cast from the desktop (using a 3rd party Google Play app instead of the browser which I find awkward) and iPhone using the Google Play app. I also had no issue connecting my iPhone directly via Bluetooth. As an iDevice user I personally find Chromecast a little more awkward than Airplay or Sonos but if your not invested in those platforms then the JBL Link 500 certainly delivers a compelling alternative. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Link 500 - Superior sound, sufficient Google Home The JBL Link 500 combines JBL's exceptional sound engineering with Google's home management tools. At first glance, this thing is huge! See the pictures. It is 14 1/2" x 7 5/8" x 6 1/8" and weighs almost 8 pounds. The Link 500 produces full bodied sound with the high fidelity that is expected of JBL. The only fault of the Link is Google Home. Google Home functions well, but it takes some getting used to. There are plenty of commands to use, but there is not a book included listing them. So, you have to do your own homework to figure out how to make the most of your Link 500 with Google Home. The voice recognition is good, but you have to speak loudly and clearly to get its attention. Overall, since Google Home could be updated to have better commands and interaction, and the sound quality is excellent, I highly recommend the JBL Link 500. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Convenience + Quality = Dream Speaker The JBL Link 500 is by far the best sounding speaker that I've ever listened to. It might sound like I'm being over reactive but I genuinely get excited to come home from a long day of work or school and be able to get lost in the music I listen to. I love how well it can capture voice commands from me even over the loud music. If you were ever on the fence about which Virtual Assistant is better, just know that JBL went with the right choice. I ABSOLUTELY love using Google Assistant over other AI's. There's only really 2 down sides to having this speaker. First off is that since it's a speaker made by JBL and not Google, the newest software updates don't arrive until later. The second down side is that JBL has a reputation for making speakers that when maxed out at full volume can blow out. I've owned many speakers by JBL and although I absolutely love the sound quality they provide, I can never turn the volume above 90% without worrying about blowing out the speaker. The JBL Link 500 can get very loud but I don't turn the volume above 70% because the passive radiator (what most people believe to be the subwoofer) can start making a weird noise like it's hitting something. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sound This speaker has amazing sound quality. It sounds great and even when you turn the speaker full blast, the sound quality is still great. It gets pretty loud and works for parties or just chilling by yourself. The Google assistant is a great feature as well. It is very convenient and a nice additional feature. One of my friends has a Bose SoundTouch 30 wireless speaker and this speaker sounds just as good, plus it has a Google assistant. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really good listening! JBL Link 500 Review The JBL Link 500 is a home use bluetooth speaker system with built in Google Home intelligence. The packaging was well done to protect the unit without making it hard to open. Documentation included the usual warnings, legal notices and terms, and a quick guide to the various buttons and external features of the Link 500. But no instructions were included for how to setup the device on Wifi, Bluetooth, etc. This was disconcerting at first, but when I started touching buttons on the top of the unit, the friendly Google Assistant told me to install Google Home on my phone. When I did that, Google Home stepped me through the setup. This worked out fine, BUT its bad form to include no instructions at all (or none that were readily obvious). There is some room for improvement here. Using the Google Home app, I was able to setup a connection to my Spotify account easily, and was telling the Google assistant what I wanted to listen to minutes later. I could also ask the weather, time, to tell me a (bad) joke, and more. I don’t really know how much I will use the Google Assistant besides telling it what music to play, but its still nice to know its there to answer questions, etc. I was also able to connect my iPhone to the Link 500 via Bluetooth, and can now use it as a more traditional Bluetooth speaker as well. The Link 500 can play whatever my iPhone is able to send via Bluetooth. The sound quality of this unit is wonderful. It generates big powerful bass, clear highs, and it gets loud without distortion or listener fatigue. I currently have it sitting in front of a window in my home office, and when the big bass driver on the back reflects it’s sound off of the glass – wow! This things sounds really great! Overall, I’d give the Link 500 very high marks. While it would have been nice if it had a rechargeable battery, allowing it to be taken out in the yard more easily, JBL doesn’t position this speaker for portability, and they offer other units for that purpose. Buy with confidence. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best JBL Speaker Yet! So I received this amazing JBL Link 500 a week ago and have definitely tested all aspects of the speaker. I personally have owned a Flip 3, Flip 4, Charge 3, Pulse 2 and the Xtreme, so I am definitely familiar with the JBL sound and quality. After putting through its paces I can easily give this speaker a 9/10 rating. Its truly amazing! I am selling some of my other speakers now and this is my new primary home speaker. It really is that good. Here’s my pros and cons so you have an idea about what you are buying: Pros 1.Build. Excellent compact form factor and nice, simple design. The button layout is perfect with any control you could need outside of the Google Assistant technology. Nice mesh on the front, clean design and a passive driver in the rear. This speaker is built with high quality in mind and it shows. 2.Setup. The setup was so easy it isn’t even funny. You simply download the Google Home app on your Android or IOS device and you now have a personal robot to configure and walk you through the process. This is great for people who want voice control rather than having to manually connect and control the device. 3.Built in Chromecast. This is so convenient it’s literally a revolution to the world of speakers. This JBL can connect to most streaming apps and look for any artist or song up for you. It streams everything through your Wi-Fi signal so you will get crisp and clean sound quality vs Bluetooth alone. This means your speaker is always ready to play music for you when you get home without any connecting time. It also means you don’t have to drain your phone or laptop battery to play music. No more dead devices or battery juggling to keep your tunes going. That’s a huge deal for me. 4.Google Assistant. This is the most priceless feature of this amazing speaker. It basically turns your speaker into a robot assistant to look up the weather, play tracks, check flights, find a local business, set alarms, or nearly anything you want to ask it. I didn’t think I was going to really get into this but once I used it I was blown away. I no longer have to look up things on my laptop or phone, I can just ask Google. Besides being so convenient for the average home user, this is also great for the elderly, handicapped or someone needing the virtual assistance. 5.Connect. This speaker also allows users to link this JBL Link 500 with the Link 300, Link 20 and Link 10. I do not have any of these other speakers so I haven’t been able to test this. I will be trading for or buying a smaller Link 20 or Link 10 to put in the bedroom and pair with this though. 6.Sound. Even if this was not a Wi-Fi smart voice assistant speaker, I would say it’s the best JBL speaker I have heard yet. It has a nearly flat balanced sound signature with crystal clear highs, full mids and super thick bass. This means it’s going to play your artists music and you will hear it the way it was meant to be heard. It reminds me a bit of my Focal studio monitors but with the right EQ tuning for clean pleasant listening. This Link 500 also has very little compression at full volume and the highs are never piercing, which seems to plague most speakers. It can definitely rock your house at full volume and definitely lives up to its large room capacity. I can’t say enough about it’s enjoyable sound signature. If you like EDM OR Hip Hop, this speaker will blow your mind with its full and deep bass. Or if you like acoustic music, its mids and highs will not disappoint you. One of the best sounding speakers I have heard without a doubt. Cons First of all there really isn't much to complain about but I’ll try my best to nit pick for you. 1.No aux in. This is not really a huge deal at all for most people, since the Wi-Fi capability and Bluetooth will handle most everything. But for people who may want to integrate this into older technology TV’s, MP3 Players or Ipods, it is not going to work. However, if you are shopping for this quality speaker you probably have updated your equipment. My TV does not have Bluetooth, so I was unable to connect via Aux port. However if you don’t need it, no big deal at all. 2.Google Assistant is still being integrated fully, so some features are not released for the JBL Link 500 yet. An example would the Sleep Timer. It will be available soon but isn’t updated on the speaker as of today. But remember, like any new device, updates will continue to be released and it will only get better and better over time. 90% of the Google Assistant features are definitely there and its very nice to use the voice controls. 3.No speaker phone. This might be a needed feature for some users. However for me, this is great. One of the most annoying things is when you are enjoying your music with friends and incoming phone calls stop the music. I like my phone calls and my music separate for that reason. And since this speaker handles everything via Wi-Fi without my phone doing the streaming, this is actually going to be a pro for some people. All in all, I extremely satisfied with this speaker. For the price, you are getting great build quality, a compact design with huge balanced sound, Google Assistant to help you with everything, seamless streaming of your favorite apps and reliable JBL sound. If you need only one home speaker to do much more than play music beautifully, this is it. I am going to be selling several of my house speakers and larger Bluetooth speakers now, as this does everything in one unit. This speaker deserves the 9/10 rating without a doubt. I’ve had a ton of speakers and this is my new favorite of the collection. You will not be disappointed if you buy this speaker, you will be smiling. Thanks for reading and great job on this one JBL! Rated 5 out of 5 by from My homes new primary music player and assistant! OK Google, how do you wrap beautiful sounding audio in an easy mode ribbon? I will say I was no stranger to smart speakers but after hearing my music through the JBL Link 500, I felt I had a new primary music player in the most active room of our home, the kitchen. The 500 paired with ease to my iPhone and the free Google home app in just a couple of minutes and guided me through linking my audio (Spotify, Pandora etc..) and video (Netflix, Chromecast etc..) for it to connect. Once up and running, the Link 500’s google assistant (and twin mics) was put to the test! I’d ask it to play Drake and about 1-2 seconds, a random Drake playlist from Spotify was booming. “Ok Google, play YouTube” and a few seconds, my Chromecast tv would start a YouTube video. Having help with a smart speaker is nice but having a smart speaker become part of an everyday experience that I look (or dare I say listen) forward to, I was not expecting. As some of you may know, hands free help with twin toddlers is a HUGE win. Asking google to play lullaby music once naptime rolls near for the toddlers while trying to feed them is immeasurable. Sleepy time incoming!! Cook timers have always been an afterthought once oven is preheated or water is boiling. Verbalizing a cook timer to set itself without having to get my messy hands on something or not having to wash them immediately because I set a timer on my germy phone is quick, hygienic and convenient. Just speak: “ok Google, set a timer for ten minutes” and all is well. Now, when I want to listen to..let’s say jazz while washing the dishes or cleaning up…well…the audio experience is just gorgeous! I will not forget the first time I spoke from across the room: “ok Google, play Medeski, Martin and Wood”…once that deep, rich bassline walked into my kitchen lol I had an absolute moment of where have you been all my life?! I was no stranger to smart speakers but always went back to hands on methods due to audio sounding like it came from a tin can. This is where the JBL Link 500 simply outclasses the competition. Its build is beautiful and I feel will work in anyone’s space as a part of their home both audibly and aesthetically. The JBL Link 500 can get very loud and drop bass very low. That being said, it is not to be mistaken for a charge and go Bluetooth speaker. It needs to be plugged into a power outlet at all times. There are twin mics on top that never had any trouble hearing me from the next room over and/or on top of a toddler screaming. I am still learning new google assistant commands but I was really digging the speed at which my commands are executed. JBL is known for its attention to great sounding gear and I can’t think of another smart speaker anywhere near this great sounding. If you are on the fence just go for it because it will fill your room/home with no regrets. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic sound, easy set up First and foremost, like the title says, the sound of this unit is fantastic and LOUD. Serious bass response, nice wide stereo sound, you can easily use this as your primary audio device in the main room of your house. I'm a Google Pixel2 user so set up with the Google assistant was a breeze. I didn't even have to enter the wifi password, it synced and utilized the password already on my phone. Total set up time was MAYBE 5 minutes. Using Google Play music, just hit the Chromecast button on your device and it syncs and plays seamlessly. You can also use the bluetooth to play audio as well. The Google assistant also worked straight away. Only glitch I find with things all synced up is that when I ask for a playlist, it doesn't pull a previously saved playlist from my library, it creates a new one. Maybe it's me but I'm going to mess with it some more. Overall, this is a spectacular home audio device that more than has the power to fill a room with solid sound. Highly recommend this unit. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! Was a little worried when we got the Link 500 and there were virtually no instructions. I am no spring chicken (as can be noted by using that phrase), but was able to download the Google home app and have music playing within 5 minutes of opening the box! Yes, it is that easy. You can do everything from get the weather report to hear what you have scheduled on your calendar for the day, and much more! Was able to connect my TV via Bluetooth easily. I am truly amazed at the sound quality from something so small! Great bass, treble and mid range. Also, it is loud enough for any party with no distortion. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing sound Wow the sound is amazing, tight bass clear highs JBL definitely knows how to make speakers.I put this in my master bedroom originally but since it has such powerful sound decided to put it in my family room. This speaker is for big spaces. While this speaker is big it's still rather easy to move around if need too. This speaker doesn't have a battery so not portable needs to be plugged in.Now to Google features I downloaded app on my phone and connected wifi to speaker.Once connected my Google features turned on.I love walking in my house and saying hey Google put some music on.I don't got to touch my phone to check traffic,weather,time,etc....I just ask and it tells me. While I'm still in the learning stages of all the things it can do.I really know I'm love this thing.I'm a get the smaller version for my room so I can have access at all times and can play simultaneously on both speakers too. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice, but heavy I love JBL products! Nice, clean quality sound! The product does have a little weight to it, which I'm not a big fan of. I like light-weight products. It also doesn't have any built in grips for easy-movment. So it prevents me from being able to carry it easily. Have to hold it with both hands at all time! I also haven't been able to use the Google assistance as well as I'd like. Each time I wanted it to play a sound. It would say "playing sound now", but ends up saying "Unable to play, please try again". Maybe my internet wasn't strong enough, but I'm not sure. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounding with amazing functionality! I just finished putting the JBL Link 500 through its paces and I have to say right away that I think it is an awesome device. To begin, it comes with minimal instructions and an A/C cord. The Link 500 plugs into the wall (there is no battery). You need to install the Google Home app on your smartphone and with this you can set up the JBL link 500 to get it ready to take commands and play music using the Google Assistant. If you have an android phone, you will already be familiar with the Google Assistant. Once you have completed the setup with Google Home, you can then start asking the JBL Link 500 questions or tell it to play music. You do this by saying "hey google" or "ok google" and then give a pause and then ask the question or give the command. There is a little light in the top front of the speaker that indicates if Google assistant is listening to you (after you say ok google). You can also turn the assistant on/off and lower volume etc with dedicated buttons on top of the Link 500. Right away I started asking it to play specific songs and it did very well even when I was in another room with a wall between us (but with open doors). It also came in handy in real time when a friend and I were trying to remember James Franco's name and we asked it a few questions from another room and it got the info for us which was very cool and an example of real time usefulness. It does not appear to be able to make phone calls though. Now as for the sound... I think it sounds great... very full, clear and rich sounding with deep resonant bass especially if you put it near a wall. The bass is very strong on this one (it has a radiator on the back). I found myself saying "ok google" ... please lower the volume - more than once or twice... because I have neighbors! It's pretty powerful. I think it would be perfect for a small party when you want some volume and bass happening. The Google assistant functionality is also very consistent and it even heard me when the volume was quite high (thank god!). I think it is an amazing product and I would highly recommend it to anyone. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
