Rated 1 out of 5 by from do not buy I have owned three ( 3) Kobos .. this first one lasted a year... the second 6 months . The 3rd 9 months. All with fractured display issues. A sales person in Chapters ADMITTED Kobo is producing these very cheaply and reaping a huge profit on the price. Kobo is VERY aware there is an issue. They just do not care. I love Kobo ... I love ereaders. I keep buying another one hoping that the last was just a lemon .Einstein said only a fool keeps doing the same thing hoping for a different result. Of one thing I am certain... no matter what Kobo try s to tell you.. it is NOT the consumers fault these things are breaking down. In Canada there are basically only two ereaders on the market . I really would like to buy a Kobo. I will just be throwing my money in the garbage. If kobo would own up and resolve the issue I would buy another one. With much regret... my next ereader will be a Kindle.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good concept but stopped working. I received my Kobo H2O as a gift and I loved it at first! Unfortunately the screen recently froze and then my ereader stopped working completely (I have had my ereader for just over a year). It won't turn on, it won't charge, it won't reset, it won't connect to a computer. I am extremely disappointed that after just over a year of use it has stopped working, especially considering I take very good care of my products. Sadly I will not be purchasing another one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Screen died After reading these reviews, I suppose I should give mine 5 stars for lasting 8 months! I really enjoyed it while it lasted and was very careful with it - even keeping it in a protective neoprene case, but suddenly I only have 1/4 screen that works. I'm surprised that the quality is this poor for a device that costs this much. I'd give it more stars if it cost less than $50.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Buy This Product - PLEASE TAKE THIS REVIEW SERIOUSLY I know when you read reviews, you get good and bad and you always chuck up the bad ones to just a one off bad experience. This is NOT the case with this review. This product is made so poorly that it breaks just by leaving it alone. It is the SECOND Kobo that I've bought and the second one that broke (albeit the first one lasted longer than this one). I had the Kobo for less than 6 months and brought it on vacation. I bought the $30 leather case in order to protect it and bought tons of books to read. One day, I set it down on a blanket on a chair (in the shade). It did not drop, it did not go in water or sand. I fed my son and went back to pick it up and it was frozen. Couldn't get it to work again. I called Kobo customer care and like many other reviewers on here was told it had physical damage and it wouldn't be replaced. I was appalled - physical damage? How is that possible if nothing happened to it? I was told the screen is super sensitive to which I replied ok but it wasn't even touched. This product is basically made out of tissue paper and the company is PATHETIC since they know this is an ongoing issue with their product and won't offer any replacements for Kobos that break within a short period of time. I've dropped my Iphone 10 times and it's never cracked but this thing has physical damage after sitting in its case on a chair for 10 minutes? DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! You will be out of pocket $150 plus the case, plus books and the company will not stand behind the product. As an avid Chapter's shopper, I will also not be shopping in your store anymore. Appalling. I will do everything in my power to get this message across and also post a complaint with the BBB.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgraded from original Kobo And I'm Happy I Did. I bought this almost a month ago and it's been smooth sailing the whole time. The image is obviously more clear and crisp than the original, but there are many improvements. From lighting to fonts, this was a huge step up. It was also an easy step up. I synced the device with the computer and I could choose which books from the original Kobo I wanted downloaded to the Aura. It was incredibly simple and quick. Collections were automatically copied over too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love the Kobo H2O! The Kobo H2O is absolutely the best Kobo ever. I have had mine for almost a year, and never had a problem. I have had Kobo Glo's and Aura's over the years and had ongoing problems, possibly because they couldn't cope with the large number of books I had. The Aura H2O has been a dream in comparison!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Idea, but broke in the first month I got this for my birthday since my first Kobo, had a mark on the screen, and I loved the idea of it being water resistant. I was told my first Kobo got the mark from not having a case, so I purchased one for this right away (especially since it was a $100 more than my first one). I took it out of my bag one day, not even a month into owning it, and the top of the screen had grey marks running down it, and the bottom was totally blank. I did the reset and it still had that. I should've gone to customer service, but after taking it into a store they told me it must've been my fault and wouldn't be covered. I ended up just going back to my original one, which continued to work for another year, until one fateful day when I opened up the cover on it and the Exact same fate befell it, the top all grey and streaky, they bottom just blank. So upset, especially because I have purchased numerous books through Kobo. Great concept, just really wish it had worked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my Kobo H20 I bought my H20 in April 2015 since I was going to be in Florida on vacation for a week and wanted something waterproof I could read on the beach or next to the pool (bonus: you can take it in the tub too!). Figured it would be way easier than hauling down 5-10 hardcovers in my luggage. I've been using it steadily since then and I LOVE it. No issues with it at all. Small enough that it can fit in my purse, screen size is great, and I love the number of options you have for customization. My husband liked mine so much he even bought his own a few months later. It's a great little unit, I'm very pleased.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No good... bad customer service! Forced by Kobo to switch to a Kindle. I've been a Kobo customer since the beginning, back in 2009/2010 I got the very first Kobo device, the white one with a blue button and no wifi. A few years after that, I got the Kobo Aura HD. I've been a happy customer ever since. Decided to give my Aura to my dad and get the Kobo H2O. Got it online. One week after that I got the device and realized that the bottom part of the screen was stained. When the light is on, I can see 4-5 big yellowish stains at the bottom of the screen that are really disturbing when I try to read. Got in contact with Kobo customer care by email and after sending them some photos, where you can clearly see a difference between the top of the screen and the bottom, they said that there is nothing wrong with the device and that they can't exchange it. So I have no options.... I'm returning it and getting a Kindle. So just wanted to warn everybody that, according to Kobo customer service, yellow spots on Kobo H2O's screens are normal. So watch out when you decide to get one! Unfortunately, I'm switching to Kindle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible quality! I bought this reader only a few months ago and opted for the aura H2O because I thought that it would be more durable with the extra features. I bought the case too, it's not protective at all though, just a sleep case and there are no other options for cases. I've bought several books and also borrowed books from the library for the kobo and have been very disappointed with the quality of the reader. It makes a flash-like blackout blink when you turn the page and you can almost read what was on the previous page of the book in the background of the page. The quality is not great, you'd be better off with the free app and use it on your phone or tablet. I dropped the reader once, just once, from waste hight and now there is a thick white bar across the screen making it impossible to read anything. I called kobo and they offer no repair options, if you drop the reader -which happens to us all, come on - and told me that I am basically out $200+ and there are no option except the garbage for this thing. It's junk! My iPhone has been dropped several times and nothing has happened, but drop your reader once and it's junk? Don't waste your money, buy something that has so some sort of repair option and a better protective case, or better yet just get the app. I'm so disappointed that a great company like Chapters would support such a poor quality product as their e-reader.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 3 weeks and still won't work Been to the library 3 times, last time they could not get the ereader to work either. I understand computers but this thing is going back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good for a beginner e-reader So I am late into the game of e-reading even though I'm a voracious reader. I am passionate about old school paper books and never thought that I'd ever try an e-reader or if I did, would like it. Well, turns out that while I still like my paper books, I've definitely been proved wrong to myself. After much research I bought the H2O Aura and I love it! PROS: - I can truly read anywhere now, especially in the bath without the worry of ruining my precious collectibles. It's definitely waterproof. It's also much easier to carry and travel with (lightweight and compact) so my commutes are great and my baggage will now be much lighter while traveling internationally. That's a huge bonus for me. - I thought initially that reading constantly from a screen would tire my eyes, a reason why I don't like reading on my laptop for instance. But the Kobo reads just like a book! Even with adjustable lighting it's comfortable to the eyes and the look of the screen resembles real book pages. Very neat! - Adjustable fonts, size, brightness, reading layout are all great features - Battery life is very good though I still have to test it out thoroughly like on a vacation - Many different formats accepted on the reader from the internet. I mostly download epubs - Micro SD option makes storage a non-issue - Can borrow free e-books from public libraries! Uh-ma-zing! Free reading was the main reason I got the Kobo. CONS: - It's definitely not an ipad and the e-reading technology has a long way to go. The speed and touch interface can feel a bit slow if you're used to the super fast ipads. - No colour???? The main homepage and anything I download or even highlight is not in colour. Definitely makes it feel like old-school technology for the price. - While how to set up the e-reader was super easy with the instructions it came with, I had to browse around quite a bit on the kobo website to look up on how to download free material from the internet. - Price is a bit too steep in my opinion. Overall I'm super happy with the purchase. I find that I'm even reading much faster with the Kobo than with my paperbacks. Great first-time purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Veryhappy with my e-reader I have never owned an e-reader so I did a lot of research before deciding on this one. I asked hubby for it for xmas and the man delivered! I love the large face, I was fascinated that the pages looked just like a book and it was very easy on my eyes which tend to strain easily. I liked that I was able to change the brightness through an easy swipe down the left side of the screen. I travel a lot to tropical destinations and was so happy that my kobo could withstand sand, salt and chlorine water. Yes, I brought my kobo into the ocean and into the pools. And I could leave it in the sand without issue. It is also very user friendly and it's very easy to purchase and download books. Very happy with this gift :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I got this ereader as a gift for Christmas and I just love it! This is my first ereader and I was nervous that I would miss the feel of a book in my hand but I'm happy to say that I do not! The features of this Aura H20 are so easy to use and convenient that I will never go back. - Very convenient for vacations, never have to worry about it getting wet just wipe the screen and carry on. - The battery lasts forever (I charge once a month) - Love the feature that allows you to highlight and define any word - Very lightweight - Easy to adjust the screen brightness and tons of fonts to choose from

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Ereader Love it! Well worth the extra money. I tried several other readers prior to choosing and picked one up from a Chapters Store. Legible in all lighting, great font change capability, feels better than a book! No worries about getting it wet in the rain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great eReader..but it's no Tablet Let's get one thing straight: this eReader is not an iPad (in fact, it's excruciatingly slow by comparison). However, for what it's designed to do, this device all my expectations for an eReader. Benefits: 1) It's a small, sleek, lightweight product. 2) It is indeed waterproof. The charging slot is protected by a tightly sealed flap (you have to pry it open with a fingernail) so I don't worry about water getting in. 3) The screen looks paper without the backlighting of a tablet, which makes reading at night comfortable. The brightness and text options are wide enough to suit any user's preferences. 4) The battery life is 2 months (!). 5) It stores up to 4GB of books *and* has an expandable micro-SD slot. 6) The dealbreaker feature for me: it accepts basically all major file formats and is incredibly easy to transfer purchases/downloads from your laptop over. Drawbacks: 1) It's a slow processor. It takes me about 15-20 seconds to get the device from its powered off position to reading a book (once the book is loaded, page turning is quick). You can adjust the sleep/power settings to suit your preferences though. 2) I find the highlight/underline/define tool really finicky and avoid using it although I would like to be able to. I bought this for a beach trip and find myself reaching for it to read books on far more than my iPad. Would repurchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am very pleased! I did a lot if research before purchasing my kobo Aura H2O. I was primarily looking at the kindle line of products: the paperwhite and the new voyage (not yet released in Canada). I was going to wait for the voyage to be released in Canada because I liked the idea of the light that auto adjusts. I then looked online and on YouTube at comparisons for the kobo h2o and the voyage. These are the things that sold me on the kobo over the kindle: -The larger screen makes the kobo aura h2o more luxurious to me over the smaller kindles (voyage and paperwhite) it feels like I am reading a hardcover book, instead of a paperback...yet it is still small enough to fit in my small hands. - I really love that this kobo is waterproof. I am going to Mexico and like the idea of not having to worry about sand or splashed water on my kobo -did you know that the kobo aura h2o has games built into it? There is chess, solitaire, sudoku etc...great while waiting for the bus, plane, etc...they don't mention that in the descriptions, but I think it is a cool little add on, that is worth mentioning :) - the choice of 24 fonts compared to approximately 10 on the kindles...my son has dyslexia and one of the standard fonts on the kobo is the dyslexie font...it makes it easier for him to read, and I think that feature should be promoted more...we only found it by accident looking on YouTube. The ladies in the Coles store hadn't even heard of it before...so now they can promote it. - the option of the auto adjust feature of the kindle voyage is not really a deal breaker now that I have the kobo, because you can slide your finger down the left side of the kobo screen and adjust your intensity/brightness....I find this easy to use, and allows me to customize as I choose, instead of relying on an auto feature (now that I think of it...the auto adjust feature would probably drive me nuts!) - I also liked the feature of the kindle voyage that had screen page buttons, but when I looked at the reviews on YouTube, people were saying that they made it difficult to hold the ebook, and that it could get pressed by mistake just by holding it...since I have had the kobo I like that I can adjust in the settings where I can tap to turn the pages....sometimes in bed I hold it with my left hand and I can tsp on the left...sometimes depending on how I hold my kobo I would prefer tapping on the top or bottom of the screen...and you can easily and quickly adjust to suit your preference (mine changes frequently depending on how I am sitting/lying down). So I think I am ok with the touchscreen :) it hasn't caused me any problems... These are a couple of things that are on my WISH LIST for the kobo Aura h2O....none of them are annoying or deal breakers...just suggestions for improvement :) - I like the option of the white kobo aura HD... The h2o only came in black...I wish it had had some other colour options to make it stand out. - I can only get a black cover for the h2o in stores...that is the only option :( I want some prettier options! I can get a coloured cover on ebay for around $6...so I have ordered a turquoise for the Mexico trip, and pink for everyday....but I am not sure if the quality will be as good as the ones available in Coles. That is yet to be determined! -so far I haven't had any issues with the selection of books available or any problems with downloading...however if the kobo store is reading this I have two beefs: 1) why can you use paypal on the indigo site but not the kobo store? I would LOVE to be able to use paypal to pay for my ebooks as well!!! 2) why can I not save pre-purchase ebooks to my wish list? On any site? You can save the physical books but not ebooks...weird! Other than those technical issues with the websites...accessories. I love my kobo aura H2o! I hope that this review has helped others decide one way or another :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best e-reader out there! I love how small and lightweight the Kobo is. It's perfect for reading on my subway commute. I read so much faster on the Kobo. I still appreciate traditional books, but I've definitely become an eBook convert! I have about 90 books on my Kobo Aura H2O right now and totally loving it! Compared to other ereader, i think the Kobo Aura H2O is the best out there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good to go reading in a tub I preordered my H2O and I love it. Nice to read in the tub again. Only complaint is weight, it would be nicer if it was a tad lighter. I like the built in light. You can adjust how bright the light is for reading. Enjoy this immensely.
