Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Wondereful Ereader! I just ordered this Kobo Forma 2 days ago ( August. 7th.) I received it today! ( Aug. 9) Wow really fast shipping. Well, so far it's fantastic. Very easy setup. It is very light. I like the fact it's waterproof and I have a choice of portrait or landscape. Thank you Kobo! ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade from my first generation Kobo I have to say that this is such an improvement over my Kobo from 7 years ago. It may seem pricey but IMHO it is worth it - and hey, you are reading (not wasting time on social media). First, the larger screen makes for a far better reading experience; as does the back/side lighting and being able to adjust it to an orange-ish spectrum. It also feels much better in one's hand an is ridiculously light while feeling solid. I wish it had x-ray like the Kindle does - but it is far from a deal breaker as Kindle restricts you to their proprietary format, which is a far greater hindrance than the absence of one cool feature. E-readers will never replace books, but for some material, I feel e-books are superior (think academic, etc.). When it comes to beloved classics that you'll read over and over, I'll still buy a nice hardcover.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect ereader for all day use After comparing kindle oasis 2 and kobo forma for a long time on Youtube and purchased forma last week in Chapter Coles bookstore. The advantages over kindle oasis 2 are below. 1. lower price and larger screen. CAD 329 kindle oasis2 with 7' screen vs CAD 299 kobo forma with 8' screen. Kindle oasis2 is better for States customers, as $30 USD cheaper than forma. But in Canada, Kobo is 30 CAD cheaper. 2. Nice design. Although kindle oasis2's metal case looks premium, but I prefer Kobo's plastic design. Just throw it into your bag without worrying the metal case scratches. Lightweight and comfortable to hold in a single hand. 3. Easy to start. Although some people complaining there is no instruction. But it is very easy to start. Just power on and setup wifi connection and log into your kobo account. Then you can drag files into your kobo via usb cable or sync data through kobo desktop app. Although there is no Chinese fonts go with it. But it is easy to download any fonts or any language on your desktop and drag them into ereader just like loading a book. 4. Just make me like reading. I spend about 1 hour on the bus everyday and I have finished 3 books this week. knowledge just arrives like this simple way. highly recommend kobo forma.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect ereader I have had my forma since Christmas and have read 6 books on it. In the past I have had a Sony eReader (PRS-505), Kindle Keyboard and most recently a Kindle Fire (yes, I realize it's a tablet). The Fire was great because it allowed me to access library books via overdrive but I hated the fact that it was a tablet and I was unable to read in the sun, the battery life sucked and it gave me headaches. So to get a Forma that could access my library, is waterproof, backlit (and has a night shift feature) and uses e-ink is amazing. I love love love this device. I like that there are physical buttons to use to change pages. The device is light, comfortable in the hand and i love the way the screen rotation lock works. The device is easy to use and you can search both overdrive and the kobo store at once. I LOVE the ease of changing the screen brightness (you don't even have to stop reading or hunt for a settings menu). I have already used this in the bath tub and have only had to charge it once over the month.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I was so excited to purchase the Kobo Forma. I'm not new to ereaders and love when new KOBO's are released! Prior to this I was using the KOBO Aura H2O. I've been disappointed in this expensive purchase since I took it out of the box. The first thing I noticed is that the provided USB cord doesn't feel like it fits into the ereader securely. If moved it could fall out of the ereader. My screen is constantly freezing in the sleep mode. The only way I can wake it up is to plug it in. There is a faint darker line or bar on the right side of the screen which is very noticeable when reading with the screen light on. The battery was draining within hours, even when it was not being used. I did do a factory reset and it seemed to help the battery issue, but didn't help any of my other issues. I really wanted to love this ereader! I was looking for the bigger screen and lighter weight of it. I'm going to return tomorrow...I just haven't decided if I want to exchange it or just be refunded.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 32 gb version The Kobo store has the 32 gb version for an extra $50. Why isn't Indigo carrying this version?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Creates a Wonderful Reading Experience but Failed by Poor Build Quality I switched to Kobo after being a loyal Amazon kindle fan. From the reviews and information available, the Forma sounded like the perfect device for me. Sadly, I had to exchanged the forma not once but twice so far. Overall, the Forma is impressive especially when it comes to creating a good reading experience. However, the positive features are weighed down by poor build quality. The Good: I find the Forma creates an unparalleled immersive reading experience. The large screen keeps me reading longer than any of the kindle devices I previously owned. The size and weight also receives positive points in my book. Whether I hold it with one hand, or rotate it to landscape mode, the device is easy and a pleasure to hold. There are a number of thoughtful and convenient details such as being able to adjust the level of lighting like a dimmer switch by swiping the left had side of the screen up or down. There are also preference based options such as displaying the title at the top of the screen and page numbers at the bottom or if this is a distraction, have the entire screen filled with text. The Forma also has the thinnest bezel in any e-readers I've experienced. While out of the box instructions are missing, it is not impossible to figure out how the device work. Considering this is my very first kobo device, I found that the transition (e.g. transferring books, setting up an Overdrive account, setting up a Pocket account) relatively smooth. The Bad: Poor build quality. The first Forma had a physical page turn button (the bottom one) that was loose and was intermittently unresponsive when pressed. The top button produces an extra sharp clicking sound which I found highly distracting while reading. The second device still had loose page turn buttons but was better in comparison to the first one especially since both buttons were responsive 100% of the time. I did notice that the device felt comparatively slower and had a few minor freezing issue when I'm accessing the "Annotations" menu. Ultimately, I decided to return the second device and exchanged it a third time due to a noticeable uneven screen lighting. The area closest to the page turn buttons was darker compared to the rest of the screen. This was in addition to a faint dark border all around the screen. The third device is still not perfect, the page turn buttons produces varying degrees of distracting clicks but this is the one with "flaws" that I can tolerate. While these details might seem minor to some, I felt that the Forma is positioned as a luxury product and therefore should be assessed/reviewed by standards befitting a product with a high price point. Do I recommend this product? Absolutely. The most important test for me with e-readers is: Does it make me want to read? The answer is a resounding "yes". Had the company taken the care and time, maybe even delay the release to ensure that the build quality makes the consumer feel like they are holding a top quality product in their hands, it would have given the Amazon Kindle a serious and worthy challenger.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product but No Instruction Deserve to be 5-stars with right instructions. Kobo Forma is a great product, especially compared to Kindle Oasis. But main instruction that how to copy or transfer ebooks that you have collected over the years and spent hundreds of dollars are MISSING. After long struggle, I discovered the following steps in order to transfer copy of your ebooks from pc computer to Kobo Forma. These books are epub. First, you have to install Kobo Desktop app in your PC from Kobo site. 1. You must have Adobe Digital Edition (free software) installed in your pc, version 3 or above. All transfer takes place through ADE. You have to Sign In with email or ID and pw. 2. Launch Adobe Digital Editions. 3. From the Help menu, click Authorize Computer. (4. If you don't already have an Adobe ID, click the Create an Adobe ID link. 5. Adobe will launch your web browser and take you to the Adobe Sign In page to create an Adobe account.) 6. When you're done, return to Adobe Digital Editions. 7. Enter your Adobe ID and password. 8. Click Authorize. 9. Click OK when Adobe finishes authorizing your computer. (The books that you want to be transferred in your Kobo, first they have to be opened in ADE one by one and clicking Copy to Library. Each book must be visible in ADE) 10. Connect your eReader to your computer, wait for your computer to detect it, then tap Connect. 11. In ADE choose a book or all books to copy. Under File you will see copy from Computer. Your Kobo will appear under the Devices. Click the eReader name to select it. 12. Click the gear icon beside Devices. Click Authorize Device from the menu that appears. 13. Click the Authorize Device button. 14. Click OK to complete the process. For other format like PDF, you can not use ADE. In your PC, locate the book (pdf) and then Drag it in your Kobo drive (eReader) in the folder Adobe Digital Edition. Once completed / first eject Kobo / then unplug Kobo usb from the PC. After a few seconds, your Kobo will go back to its normal screen / coping or transferring / once completed / go to Home / My Books / all the transferred books from pc will now appear in your Kobo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Favourite Kobo This is my fourth Kobo and my favourite. Good battery life, very quick page turns, faster than Aura One. I'm not aware of any screen flicker. My one big disappointment is the power button, I find it very difficult to use. It's not raised enough from the side of the Kobo. I often have to "search" for the button to turn on & off.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just purchased a Kobo had to try this and that to get it going because. NO Instructions came with it Very annoying. Next morning tried to turn it on and it took forever to load , My email and password were NOT already stored and I am fed up already. Many new users are seniors who are not afraid of technology and yet nothing user friendly about this product lack of instructions just bizarre Now the password I used is not correct and again why it was not saved and automatic is beyond me If something does not improve I may take it back If I had known using it would be so much work I would never never never have paid $300 for it. and to add insult to injury also had to purchase a carrying case which is a rip off to say the least Victoria Driver

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good It's lighter than its predecessors and has dedicated page turn buttons. Is it just me or does it appear snappier in terms of responsiveness when touching the screen (page turns, highlighting text)? Still no ability to print annotations. I would like a feature on the device to communicate feedback directly with Kobo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love my Forma I bought the Forma the day it came out. My Chapters didn't even have it on display yet. It's my first e-reader. Until now I've been reading e-books on my phone. I'd been resisting buying an e-reader because my phone always felt sturdier in my hand than the demo models of the Kobos and my phone really wasn't much smaller than the typical Kobo. The Forma changed that. It feels really sturdy in my hands. It has a good feel to it. It feels high-end. It's significantly bigger than my phone, too. I didn't buy the Forma for commuting or reading while waiting for an appointment -- I still use my phone for that -- I bought it for reading at home so the size is perfect. I love that the screen is like the size of a paperback novel, just a bit wider. I love all the different ways you can get books onto the e-reader. I love that you can set it to refresh the screen only at the end of a chapter preventing the screen to flash more often. I love all the orientations the e-reader allows since I don't always read holding it with the same hand. I love the buttons for turning pages. I love the online access to wikipedia. I love the interface for paying for books and that they make it so easy to add a gift card. The only things I haven't liked started occurring while I was reading library books through Overdrive. Overdrive is built into the e-reader. I found that the Forma wouldn't save the page I was on, sometimes. When I would reopen the book after being away from it overnight, first of all it would have closed the book when I hadn't closed it and it would put me at the wrong page, much earlier in the book. I assume it's a syncing issue. Also while I was reading library books I'd sometimes find that when I'd wake up in the morning I'd see my home page on the screen, which wasn't what I'd set the Forma to do. I'd press the power button and it would show a series of dots and eventually become responsive again. Also on my list of things that could be better: the price is a bit high for a dedicated e-reader. And the dictionary isn't as good as the one connected to the Kobo app on my phone. As for battery life, it's hard to tell you anything you could find valuable, given that it is dependent on how much I'm using the Forma, but when I'm reading every day after work as well as on weekends, I've found myself charging it about once a week. I'm giving the Forma 4 stars because it is a very good e-reader. Love it. If they fix the software hiccups regarding Overdrive, I'll easily give it 5 stars. Don't be afraid to buy this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best e-reader ever I bought the Kobo Forma just before a trip to Hawaii. Took the night flight both directions and the back light was perfect for reading without disturbing anyone. Also could read at night in the hotel room without disturbing my family. Took it to the beach everyday and works perfectly in bright sunlight as well. Highly recommend. Oh, and I read very fast so the large 8” screen was great. By adjusting the print size I felt like I was reading an actual whole page (or more) of the books I read.
