Jack and David, two American students, wander into a xenophobic pub in Northern England and are soon thrown back out into the nasty weather, where a mysterious beast brutally attacks them. Jack dies from his injuries -- but soon he returns to warn David to kill himself, or risk becoming a werewolf.
David does not pay attention and on the first full moon he undergoes some wild changes, to the distress of the London authorities.
In this dripping black comedy, two American students on a European vacation are changed forever by an ancient terror as they walk along the Welsh Moors on a moonlit night. Terrific makeup effects and tongue-in-cheek humor make this one of the best werewolf films ever. Academy Awards: Best Make-Up.
One of the chief successes of "An American Werewolf in London" is the inventiveness of makeup artist Rick Baker, who slowly transforms both Naughton and Dunne into werewolves.
