A wacked-out comedy classic about a rapacious Broadway producer who plans to stage a guaranteed flop -- and then pocket the backers' money when the production fails. In order to carry out his scheme, the producer enlists a neurotic accountant as his partner and hires an ex-Nazi to write the musical -- a kitsch-fest featuring such infamous numbers as "Springtime for Hitler" and "Look Out, Here Comes the Master Race." There's one thing the partners don't count on, though: the play becoming a runaway hit.
A hilarious comedy about two hucksters who scheme to get rich by producing a Broadway flop called "Springtime for Hitler." Academy Award Nominations: 2, including Best Supporting Actor--Gene Wilder. Academy Awards: Best (Original) story and Screenplay.
Mel Brooks made his directorial debut with "The Producers."
Color by Pathecolor.
Additional cast: Anne Ives, Amelia Barleon, Elsie Kirk, Nell Harison and Mary Love as the Ladies.
The play in the film was actually later produced on stage by Alan Johnson (who was the choreographer of the film).
