What are some basic dos and don’ts when it comes to incorporating floral prints in home décor?
For a fresh, modern take on florals, DO choose a few bold statement pieces and mix with bright block colours to contrast. Don't be afraid of mixing a variety of designs in different scales and patterns, this creates an eclectic and relaxed vibe.
Floral trends are always big in the spring, but how can we carry the same bold prints into fall and winter?
In winter I like to add warmth and texture by mixing my floral cushions with cozy wool throws and blankets in bright colours.
The artisan ‘hand paint process’ is fascinating. How are the paintings transferred onto the fabrics?
When someone buys a bluebellgray® cushion I want them to feel as if they are buying a piece of art and to get a real sense that the original design was hand painted.
You work with such a vibrant palette, but do you have a favourite colour?
I'm naturally drawn to anything on the blue spectrum so I always love deep indigos, cobalts and any shade of turquoise. Turquoise is a recurring theme here at bluebellgray®, it always seems to work really well with the cushions and textiles.
Our customers always love a story behind the products they fall in love with—what’s the story behind bluebellgray®?
I literally started the business from my kitchen table with very little money in my back pocket but a lot of passion and enthusiasm! Elle Decoration picked up the first collection almost immediately. Their support meant I was soon stocking cushions in exclusive design stores such as Liberty & Harrods in London, and Lane Crawford in Hong Kong. The heart and soul of the business always remains true to my original vision to create a piece of art on a cushion, fabric or other home textile. I want customers to love the product as much as I do. If my designs can add a little happiness and brightness to someone’s day then they have achieved what I set out to do with bluebellgray®.
