Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes, it works! I received the ecocube basil and mint as holiday gifts. Was initially skeptical given some of the negative reviews, but a couple of days ago, the first leaves from both plant cubes began to sprout, and around the time the directions said they would! I definitely agree with the overwatering comment - the instructions say "water frequently" but I was watering <30 ml="" only="" every="" other="" day.="">

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far, So Good! Bought the Daisy Ecocube for my friend for Christmas, and it sprouted as promised, she's so happy with it! I bought the Lavendar one for myself, just watered it for the first time today, now to wait and see how it goes!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very unhappy I purchased 4 eco cubes- Lavandar, Christmas tree, Forget me not, and sunflower. NONE grew
Date published: 2015-12-12
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not sure when I'll see the daisy It's been 8 months (I started in March) and the leaves keep growing but no flower. The leaves do grow pretty fast though. Only water a little bit every other day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked for me I have bought the sunflower, the forget me nots, and the strawberries. Over the past month and a bit, all three have grown great on my windowsill. Though just a warning, as with any plant sprouts they can given "too much love" so don't over water them, I only water mine once every three or four days. As well don't put them in a place that is far too hot, though I think direct sunlight is a good idea. Also since in Canada in can get so cold at night I usually move them away from the windowsill when it's dark. Overall a very unique product that I haven't been able to find anywhere else, and it worked for me, but obviously not for some people. Just remember that you're buying a plant from a book store, so don't get too distracted, buy a book.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive garbage! Bought this, followed the instructions perfectly, watered when needed, kept the plastic on, placed in sunny, warm window, etc. After 2 months, nothing. Not even one sprout. I poured the dirt out and didn't find anything happening, couldn't even find a seed. I planted lavender in my garden outside this spring, and am VERY familiar with lavender seeds, there wasn't a single one found in the dirt of my Ecocube. I am disappointed that I spend ten bucks on some new garbage for my garbage can.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work (no stars) Nothing grew, certainly not a wild rose. Waste of money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Works I do not care what any of these reviews say i have bought these and gifted them to many people and they have always worked and grown pretty big. They are so cute and worth the money. The box is planted and biodegrades so that's why it falls apart. If people read the instructions they would have known this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I tested it out After reading all the bad reviews I thought my purchase was gonna be a dud. But after 2 weeks there is now 16 sprouts. I kept it in a place it would get lots of sun and watered it when needed.
Date published: 2015-09-01
Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Followed directions. Started in the spring with good levels of sun and warmth. Nothing up after two weeks. After two months got exactly one tiny sprout. After extremely attentive care for 4 months, I have exactly one sprout of lavendar less than two inches high. The wood cube has also split. Would suggest Chapters/Indigo should not be carrying this with all of the similar poor reviews.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive cube of dirt Used it to plant something else after 4 months of nothingness.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed My son bought this for me on Mother's Day. I followed the initial instructions and a month later there is still nothing. The soil has a weird moldy smell ever since I opened the box. I'm ready to throw it away but my son keeps taking a peek at it hoping to see something every time he visits. Very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Euuh... it grew mushrooms instead... I got the lavender ecocube as a gift about a month ago. I was super happy to try it out and I did EXACLY what the instructions said... but it's been a month with no sprouts and now a little mushroom started to grow in it (probably because of the humidity and warmth). This sucks and it's kinda gross... Super disappointed!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good Although the comments mostly say it sucks, it woks pretty well. As long as you water it ever few days 20-30ml it grows pretty quickly. Just make sure it's in a well lit area, cause the first time I tried to grow it, it wilted because the area I placed the plant. It took 2ish weeks and I have over 5 sprouts :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total Garbage I can't believe that Chapters is still selling these when clearly they only grow for half the people who buy them. I followed the instructions perfectly and absolutely nothing grew. What a waste of money. This is the last time I buy anything other than a book from Chapters.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ended up in the garbage i was very excited by this cube, I thought I could put it in my kitchen window and have basil all summer long, did not happen. Followed the instructions and after a week I began to notice tiny green buds but they soon disappeared and that was it. I tried watering it, not watering it and the plant never grew. I would have returned it but I did not keep the bill, so I just threw it out. Besides the inital watering instructions, it never told you how much to water after that. Very disappointing

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expected More I bought two of the Lavender and one of the Wildrose ecocubes mid-March. I was hoping these would work out. The Wildrose did spectacular and is now maybe 7 cm tall, it's been growing marvelously but the lavender not so much. I bought one and waited 2 weeks, when it said it should start growing, it didn't so I thought oh it must just be a late bloomer, 2 months later and still nothing. After the first month I thought that maybe I had gotten a faulty product, so I went with high hopes and got another one, but unfortunately to no avail neither of them have grown even a bit. I don't understand why the Lavender didn't work out and am extremely disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nothing happened here Followed directions to a "T". Three tiny sprouts came up and withered. What a waste of time, money and effort. Thumbs down!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing Bought this even after reading the reviews. Have had for almost a month and nothing so far. I will keep looking after it but so far I'm disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's a GAMBLE Bought the Rose ecocube mid January 2015. I had been thinking about purchasing the cube for a few months since I love flowers, but there had been several reviews saying not to buy the ecocube because of one major flaw in most of them. THEY DON'T COME WITH SEEDS. Some of my friends had other types of the cubes and I thought that the flowers would liven up my room at university, so I took a shot and bought the cube. Nothing grew. Ever. I checked and there are no seeds! It's just a fancy engraved wooden pot and some weird dirt. I bought a 1$ Sunflower thing at my local dollar store that just had it in a mini disposable cup, and it's so much better than this! At least it actually has seeds and it didn't cost me so much money only to be extremely disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be Patient! I bought my lavender cube about a month ago, and after seeing no progress during this time, I was just about ready to throw it out. Today, however, I noticed two little plants pushing out of the soil! So to all people having trouble with their plants, be patient - you might just have a late bloomer! :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dud I followed the directions to a T. Never germinated :(

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nothing grew I received this as a gift. I followed the instructions. Nothing grew. I emptied the growing medium into a propagation dome/incubator (I work at a greenhouse) and still not a single seed germinated. Good thing daisies grow EVERYWHERE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DOING GREAT! Bought for stocking stuffer and is doing great...in less than 2 weeks we had many shoots which are now about 1/2 inch high and growing. Well worth the $$ spent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! Bought this for a stocking suffer for daughters who love fresh herbs....within no time they had many sprouts...has been growing for over 2 weeks and sprouts are half inch high....they love it, also bought them the lavender one and its doing just as well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of $10.00 I bought this and followed the instructions. My 9 year old daughter and I waited patiently for weeks on end and nothing happened. After a month or so I decided to get rid of it. Before I threw it out I dug through all of the soil to see if there were any visible seeds. There was nothing resembling a seed in the soil. A complete waste of $10.00.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hit and Miss I bought two Ecocubes, one Wild Rose and one Lavender. The Wild Rose started growing almost immediately, well before the 18-25 days advised. However, like a lot of other people, I am experiencing problems with my Lavender. It's been roughly one month and I don't see anything green from that cube...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works! Alright guys, like most of you I was mega upset. I watered my box on November 15th and nothing started growing until December 5th! I did the 30 ml thing... waited and a week and a half. Then got bored and dug around. 5 seeds. Just sitting there and nothing. I got mad, thinking "what a waste of money" and in anger absolutely soaked the freaking thing. Then left if until the 5th when I got mad again and overwatered it, but this time the soil displaced and I saw 3 bits of green. I practically cried. I was happy then panicked since 'oh crap' I over watered it again. Well 3 days after that 2 little green shoots have come up and within a couple days I've got 2 cm tall stems. The 3rd seed I may have killed but I am happy with two. My friend's mom is a plant specialist, apparently these seeds need more than 30ml to germinate. so overwatering might have actually helped them. The soil quality in the cubes are awful, make sure to keep watering it since it seems to evaporate quickly. I'm giving them a 15ml drop every other day. So far they like it since they are growing like crazy! If you aren't patient, I don't reccomend this. however if you wait for a month (haha) you will be rewarded!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its Alive!! I bought the Daisy on My birthday. Its been about 2 weeks now and I see seedlings sprouted. Very excited for them to grow strong and healthy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NO SEEDS I brought Ecocube Xmas Tree 2 weeks ago. I checked everyday and I was very excited. I watered too much so I decide to change the pot before it is germinated. I spread the soil from the paper cup. I DID NOT SEE A SINGLE SEED. WHAT GIVES ? I give NO STAR. I give one star because I have to. &$*()#&$(*#&($

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money I wish I had read these reviews before buying these items. I bought two of them and followed the instructions to the letter. It's been six weeks and the plants still haven't germinated. Worse still, I paid $10 each and I feel like I set fire on my money.
Date published: 2014-10-02
Rated 1 out of 5 by from waste of money I bought this plant 3 months ago and followed the instructions perfectly. I even wrote on my calendar what days to water it and nothing. Skip it!
Date published: 2014-09-26
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Was a waste of money I received as a gift. Followed the only watering instruction there was printed under the care instructions and nothing happened. I had to look up the care for lavender on the internet. The only instruction is the initial watering instruction, other than that the instructions indicate "water carefully". What does that mean? Very unhappy :( However, I think the idea of the Ecocube is cool, just too bad it doesn't work - maybe you need a green thumb?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money!!!! Followed all the instructions and nothing happened. I am very annoyed as I bought two of them, both didn't grow!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Came in the mail a week ago, growing already! I received my order in the mail about a week or so ago and i have two sprouting up already. Very excited about this product. Would definitely purchase again and may pick up one for my niece to have at her house. Also hoping that the chili comes back in stock soon!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved it! Within 2 days of watering it and plently of sunlight, we could already see it starting to grow. within 3 days we had 6 different little green growth. Me and my daughter loved to see how fast they were growing! I wated it every 2 days instead of 2. Unfortuately my husband dropped it before we could see a full daisy grow. I am planning on getting a second one and starting over! It's a really sweet thing to do with your young children since it's not messy at all and who it's so exciting to watch something grow. I recommend this to everyone, especially if you live in the city and do not have space of outdoor plants.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from waste of money Don't buy it its a total waste of money. I have had this for two months now nothing ever grew in it. My mom bought the same kind of thing from a local dollar store for $2.50 and they are growing fabulously. We watered all of the equally it was in a bright sunny place nothing. really regret buying this don't think I am ever going to get any other planters or plant products from this company or from chapters ever again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Highly Dissatisfied Bought one about two months ago, still hasn't grown. Last week I finally got tired of waiting and wondering why it wasn't growing and so I looked through the soil to discover that there's no seed! Total waste of money! :(

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't do the one thing it's supposed to... Bought one at Cole's and watered it for a few weeks wondering why it wasn't growing. Checked if there was even a seed, nope. It appears I paid $10 for a small wooden cube and some soil.
