Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful Customer Service Made Up for First Bad Buy I had initially written a one-star review because my Map was unscratchable and got damaged with different kinds of eraser. However, I went to the site of the UK-based company (scratchmap.com) and wrote them to let them know about the problems with their product, not asking or expecting any response. They wrote me the next day, asked for pictures and graciously sent me a replacement map from the UK which I received 2 days ago. I tested a small section with an eraser and the foil came off really easily. Apparently, there was a problem with a batch sent to Canada. I was amazed by the Customer Service and I'm now very happy with my map.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely disappointed, would not recommend I just bought this Map because I thought it was a brilliant idea. First, the staff at Indigo thought it was a decal (which it isn't), but that is a small complaint. The much bigger issue is that you cannot scratch the gold off without damaging the map. Since there weren't any instructions in the tube, I used a coin as the drawing shows a hand with a coin. When I saw it was damaging the map, I went to the website to find out they recommended an eraser. I tried a couple of erasers and I wasn't able to scratch off the gold for the most part and it actually damaged it underneath. Now I regret even scratching it because at least I would have had a beautiful map in gold. I cannot return it because it's used and damaged, but I was angry enough with this purchase to write the UK company about my dissapointment and write this review to save others from making the same mistake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from In love with my map! This map is a super fun way to keep track of where you've been. Every continent has different colours (as far as I can tell so far), and once you scratch off the foil it's really easy to tell which country is which. My map was not defective at all, and Canada, US, and Australia had outlines to define provinces and states. Use Google maps for reference. As for scratching off the foil... I'm not sure why people have taken to using coins or credit cards when the tube *clearly* says "For best results please use an eraser". I used the eraser of a BIC mechanical pencil for accuracy and haven't seen any damage at all. I rubbed pretty hard in some places too, because it's pretty time consuming to scratch the bigger countries (like China).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Bought this map a week ago and wish I could return it. Thoroughly disappointed for a number of reasons: 1) States/provinces outlined for certain countries and not others. I understand that size is an issue, but Brazil, China, and Russia are huge countries but they don't get outlines? As a result, I had to scratch off the entire China but only parts of the U.S. (since U.S. gets outlines). 2) Why are some cities mapped but not others? Why isn't Taipei on the map when it's the capital of Taiwan? Why is Cairns on the map but not Darwin when Darwin is a capital city and when both cities have comparable population size)? 3) Not very accurate. I had to cross reference other maps while scratching as the outlines don't match up. 4) Very difficult to scratch without damaging map. I was very careful yet mine is damaged.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Bought this map last week and wish I can return it. Very disappointed for a number of reasons: 1) The states/provinces are outlined for Canada, U.S., and Australia but not the others. I understand that size is an issue, but Brazil, China, and Russia are big countries yet they don't get outlines. As a result, I had to scratch off the entire China but only parts of the U.S. 2) Why are some cities named and others not? For example, why is Cairns on the map but not Darwin when Darwin is a capital city and when both of these cities have comparable population size that fall within the range on the legend? Taipei isn't even on the map and it's the capital of Taiwan! 3) I had to cross reference other maps as I was scratching as this map isn't very accurate. One example, outline of Quebec. 4) Hard to scratch without damaging map. I was super careful and yet mine is already damaged.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is Great! Just received this product and loved it. Scratches off easily (I used a butter knife, and found that it left no damage to the map underneath, a credit card was too gentle to scratch effectively) and, unlike some reviews, does come with state/province lines. It looks fantastic, and now the challenge is to find a frame that will fit it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Huge Disappointment Bought this product yesterday. I had read the other negative reviews about this product, so I referred to the manufacturers website for scratching recommendations. Using an eraser as a scratching tool is completely useless - I tried several erasers. I finally defaulted to using a coin which, like the other reviews mention, just damaged the map. It will be going back to Chapters tomorrow. I most definitely would NOT recommend wasting your money on this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Impossible to scratch without damaging the map I bought this map because the reviews were positive, it was a serious disappointment. My experience is akin to Leeann's: the gold cannot be scratched away without damaging the underlying map. More specifically, scratching lightly is ineffective, scratching strongly enough to remove the gold damages the paper. As a result, it looks like nothing I would like to display.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Buy!! I bought this almost a month ago, it was the perfect gift. I actually had it framed without glass so that it could be hung on an office wall. Me and my boyfriend use it all the time to decide on new places to travel!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small My husband and I received this as a gift, and it is a great size for us. We have put it in a shadowbox and hung it in our house. We haven't yet scratched anything off, so I can't comment on that, however I can explain why we haven't. We are planning on scratching off where we have been together, and so far that is Paris and London. As stated by other reviews you can't scratch off a single city, only a country has clear divisions. This is fine, we discussed scratching off France and England, however as the rest of the European countries, they are so tiny, that we are unsure how to make sure we only scratch those two. The back of the map seems designed to remember a single trip. Overall I would say that this map is really designed to display your gap year, where you visit all of Europe or Asia. This doesn't seem to be especially suited to showing several smaller trips. Now having said that, I am contemplating between getting this or the bigger one for my sister, who has been to 5 continents and like 40 countries.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! I love my scratch off map! I'm not quite sure why others have received a map without lines marking Provinces and States, but as soon as you scratch off the area that you have been in the US and Canada, they clearly show underneath with the name of the province and the capital city named.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique Gift The Canadian provinces, Australian and U.S states are outlined making it easy to identify them. Once you remove the foil from a province or state the name of it appears on the map. The tube the map comes in states you should use an eraser to remove the foil. It works great with an eraser. There's no scratches or rips on my map from it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Though it isn't something you would want if you say, just want to scratch off a city or town (as it may be hard to find) This is really great for taking off Provinces or States or whole Countries. The back of the map also included a little more information about altitude and such. Bought for my Travel Bug Husband. He LOVED it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product, lots of fun Bought this for myself and love it. I use a credit card to scratch it so as not to risk ripping the lamination with something metal. Unlike what other reviews say, states and provinces in USA, Australia and Canada ARE outlined (but not labelled) ... But still easy enough to identify with another map. I highly recommend this

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product and always a conversation starter in the office. I purchased this as a decoration and it looks great! At first, I was using a coin to scratch it because my nails weren't piercing through the scratch material, so I was accidentally ripping off the thin scratch plastic material but that didn't damage the map at all, in fact it made the colors more prominent. Sometimes, I thought it ripped the map because as I was scratching, if felt as if there was debris under the map and I hit a small pebble or something, but it was just the scratch map. I also got a $30 frame from Ikea to wall mount it, looks great! Pro Tip: Once you scratch it, you can use your finger you rub the area and it'll "scratch" off the remaining areas you couldn't scratch off. I think I did more rubbing than scratching on this map to avoid damaging it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from travel memory Bought this because I thought it would make a great wall travel memory of the places I've been but was very disappointed in the product. The map is hard to scratch off and ends up looking cheap when it's done..it you manage not to cut the paper trying to get all the gold off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a great idea! I found this map on a different website for WAY WAY more money. I haven't opened it yet (it's a Christmas gift), but the tube it comes in looks nice. Maybe a bit smaller than I had thought, but they DO have the dimensions listed, so I was being a bit negligent as a customer for not checking. Overall, very impressed with this gift and DELIGHTED at the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cute Concept My parents got one of these for Christmas and they really liked it. The downside, as others have mentioned, is the lack of province/territory and state lines. Having to guess and estimate isn't ideal.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great idea. Poor product. Wanted to buy this as a gift.  Looked at it in store and as stated in another's review there are no provinces or states on maps.  This fact alone deterred me from buying the product.  It also looked cheaply made.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Novel Idea I have yet to use the map but my one qualm right-off-the-bat is that there are no provinces or states outlines,

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Map outlines don't match up? I bought this map as a gift. I thought this was such a cool idea, however, the map outlines don't actually match up with the parts you scratch as in the photo! I'm not sure if I just got a dud but I'll definitely be returning this!
