1997

Canada is bookmarked! The first Indigo store opens in Burlington, Ontario.

2001

Indigo officially merges with Chapters to become Canada’s largest book retailer. That same year, our first online store is launched.

2004

The Indigo Love of Reading Foundation (ILOR) begins putting books in the hands of kids in underfunded schools across Canada.

2015

Bestselling author Margaret Atwood tells Reisman she likes to relax with a good book and cozy socks—and Indigo Reading Socks™ are born.

2017

Indigo Press kicks off with the release of The World Needs More Canada in honour of our country’s 150th birthday.

2019

Our newest addition arrives: Indigobaby! And our registry grows. In 2021, we were part of 29,000 baby showers.
