School is back in session, but it’s gone digital for now. We know the prospect of homeschooling is daunting, repeat after us: you got this! There are so many tried-and-true online resources available to help support your family as you start your e-learning journey. Did we mention these sites make learning fun, too? Whether you’re looking for language lessons for first graders, math games for teens, and everything in between, here’s a roundup of 15 educational activities that’ll keep students of all ages engaged—and entertained—at home.

1. Khan Academy

Create an account for your little learners and take advantage of the Khan Academy, a free resource to enhance at-home studies. With a strong math and science focus, including early math, this is one site you’ll want to bookmark.

Subjects: Best for math and science

Grades: K-12

2. IXL

This digital hub helps students from kindergarten through grade 12 master math and English language arts skills. From junior kindergarten math and basic literacy skills to calculus, IXL has modules to help kids and teens brush up on their academic skills between fun indoor activities.

3. Scholastic Magazine: Learn at Home Hub

To help keep kids busy, the team at Scholastic Magazine put together a free online learning centre that includes 20 days of articles, videos, activities, and more on a slew of fun subjects—including animals, the human body, and interesting places around the world.

Subjects: Multi-subject, with a focus on literacy

Grades: K-9

4. Prodigy

Make math fun with Prodigy! It’s a free online game that helps primary and intermediate students learn and practice their math skills. The game adapts in difficulty and provides a stimulating learning environment for all who login to play.

Grades: 1-8

5. GoNoodle

There are lots of distractions when you’re learning at home, so help get kids into a classroom state of mind with GoNoodle’s super-fun mindfulness and movement-based games and activities.

Subjects: Phys Ed., health

Grades: K-6 (ages 5-12)

6. CEMC at Home

Your kids might not be ready for university yet, but they can still visit one of the country’s top STEM schools—online. The University of Waterloo’s Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing launched CEMC at Home, a free platform filled with fun math and computer science activities.

Subjects: Math and computer science

Grades: 4-12

7. Scratch and ScratchJr

Put your little one in the director’s chair with Scratch, a programming language and online community where children can create animations, stories, games, and much more. Along with getting creative, kids can develop their literacy, design thinking, reasoning, computational (coding), and math skills.

Subjects: Multi-subject, including computer science, math, and literacy

Grades: 2-10 (Scratch), K-1 (ScratchJr)

8. CBC’s Curio.ca

For content from a Canadian perspective, head to Curio.ca, the CBC’s educational streaming platform, which is now free. Here you’ll find documentaries, educational TV series (such as Monster Math Squad and The Gumboot Kids), podcasts, CBC Kids News, and articles to engage inquiring young minds.

Subjects: Multi-subject, including STEM, arts, business, social studies, history, and geography (available in French)

Grades: K-12

9. NFB Education

The National Film Board’s educational hub showcases films, and accompanying lessons, including many tied to Canadian school curriculums and important topics that often come up in national conversations and the news.

Grades: 1-12

10. Canadian Geographic Education: Online Classroom

Canadian Geographic Education launched its brand-new online classroom with educator-approved videos, activities, articles and more. Look for activities that highlight the world around us—from backyard biodiversity to a digital walkthrough of the Dandora landfill site in Nairobi, Kenya.

11. BrainPOP

BrainPOP brings the classroom home with its assortment of educational animated videos, games, and activities. Covering a variety of subjects for scholars in kindergarten to grade eight, this resource makes for a great curriculum supplement.

Grades: K-8

12. Boukili

If your little ones are learning French, or are in an immersion program, meet Boukili: a resource to help boost their French reading skills. Download the free app loaded with illustrated French books and incorporate it into your regular storytime for a bilingual reading experience.

13. Cosmic Kids Yoga

Add a mid-day stretch into your daily schedule. The Cosmic Kids Yoga YouTube channel introduces young yogis ages three-plus to mindful movements and poses. Roll out those mats and blast off for an out-of-this-world family-friendly yoga experience.

14. The Kennedy Center

The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., might be closed, but this arts and cultural hub opened its digital doors to the world. With its Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems Youtube series and interactive content for students interested in the arts, it’s sure to inspire a living room performance or two.

15. Raz-Kids
