The story behind the story:
In 2004, Robert Munsch was in Fredericton, NB, to do a storytelling show. He was having lunch at the Lord Beaverbrook hotel, across the street from the theatre. At the restaurant, he noticed two things — that there were ducks in the river right outside the hotel, and that there was a little girl having a Fancy Restaurant Lunch with her grandma. The girl had a copy of one of his books, so he went over and signed it. Later he came up with this story. The only problem was that he hadn't gotten Victoria's full name and address! So he wrote to The Daily Gleaner
in Fredericton and enlisted their help in tracking Victoria down. They ran a story, and voila!
Victoria was found.
