Like Jon Scieszka, Eric Carle obviously sees the world with unique vision and presents that vision to young readers in an equally distinct way. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a perfect example, a board book splashed with colour and a cute little protagonist. The story tells of a ravenous young caterpillar who's eating a lot so he can become a beautiful butterfly. This is a wonderful title in a great body of work, including The Grouchy Lady Bug? and Have You Seen My Cat?.
