Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't Hold Interest We purchased this for our one year old last Christmas. Since then, it has been played with a few times, but does not hold his interest for very long. The product is nicely made, and we appreciate the fact that the pegs do not fall out of the holes, but overall, this wasn't a favourite at our household.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Just ok As with another reviewer, this toy didn’t hold my toddler’s attention for very long. In addition, I didn’t realize this until we’d had the toy for a while, but iis rather weird that the little pegs have happy faces; it’s kind of like the child is supposed to whack these poor little “people” on the head. Not a fan.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from OK Toy The toy itself is well constructed however it didn't hold my daughter's attention for very long. One of those toys that gets forgotten about in her toy bin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made toy! Well made product. My son had a similar toy made by another company that was nowhere near the quality of Melissa and Doug. He needed a replacement, and I saw this. It's very nice to have the pegs attached so nothing gets lost. This was actually the second of these I have purchased. I also bought this as a gift for a relative who saw it and wanted one for her daughter. Another great product by Melissa and Doug.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Classic Parent Fail This looks like the perfect toy for little kids. Until you give them one and watch them hit themselves and their siblings with the wooden hammer. And then dent the furniture with it. And then hurl it at Grandma...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Granddaughter loved it immediately I gave this to my granddaughter for her first birthday and watched her open it (with help) via FaceTime, online. She immediately grabbed the hammer and after sucking it for a minute, banged the pegs. Amazing! It's her new favorite toy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun toy! We love that the pegs are non-removable, so they don't get lost. Even the older siblings like to play with this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great For My 2 Year Old Son! Benjamin loves this toy! It's a great interactive toy that allows both myself and Benny to spend some time together and start grasping the basics of cause and effect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Overrated We were excited about this toy as the pegs don't come out so we wouldn't lose them, and the levers push one up when you pound the other. But within a couple days, the pegs are loose and just fall back and forth, defeating the purpose of the toy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A let down The bottom pieces are plastic, not wood and the little painted on smiles are messy and scratched right out of the package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pegs do not fall out!!!! My 11 month old loves this toy (as well as his 6 yr old sister). I like how the pegs do not fall out as the traditional bench works. This allows younger children to play without the frustration of pegs coming loose. It is also fantastic for clean-up time since there are no loose pegs to find when playtime is over. I can already see my son thinking about the cause and effect of him hammering one of the pegs. He will go back and forth with the opposite peg as they take turns going up and down. It is great to see him study the effect as he hammers the pegs. This is very durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Immediate Enjoyment Loved this toy right away. Every time he sees it he wants to play with it. That goes for anyone and everyone. When you get your hands on it, you will want to try it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Classic - hammering, colors, and life: This is similar to a toy I played with as a youngster in the 40's. While I don't remember exactly what it looked like, I remember that whenever you pounded something into the box (I think it had five sides- including the top) something else would come out. I've always thought of it as a metaphor for life: just when you think you've got something fixed, something else goes wrong. This could just be a product of my imagination, but I'm pretty sure that there actually was such a toy. Any thoughts?????? In the meantime, my 18 month old grandson loves the Deluxe Pounding Bench: it deals with colors, and hand-eye coordination in holding the hammer, and hitting the pegs with the end of the hammer instead of the side. I don't think he thinks about the philosophical aspect, however.
