Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great, challenging product, many power functions This is the most complex model I have built until now. The gear section is quite complex and very compact. The number of functions is quite impressive. I was dubious about air piston but they did work. The color scheme is great. I usually dispended from adding the decals but for this product I have added all of them. The decals does help to remember what levers does what. I did enjoyed myself quite a lot I do a few points that could be improve: 1) In the second instruction guide (6070890.pdf), at page 38 – in the upper left section of the page. You are adding some kind of lever. I did not understand the purpose until I stated using the power functions. I then realize it was some kind of “brake” that would insert in the spoke of the gear so it would lock the gear of the winch so would it not drop the load. The purpose of the brake should be explain. Again about the same lever, the connector as no friction so it always keep dropping on gear of the winch thus you have to hold it yourself when using the winch to lower the hook, if would not then it stop the gear. I have solve this issue by changing the gray frictionless connector with a black connector with friction so when I use the winch, I move the lever out ways of the gear and when I finish move the brake on the gear. 2) Speaking about the winch, the hook is so lite, when you use the winch to lower the hook the cable just start unraveling around the spooler so you need to pull on the hook or attach some weight to it. Maybe the next could version of hook, a steel ball could added to it so it would more weight. 3) The front of cab (the part covering the radiator) of the truck is quite fragile, so you should never hold the vehicle by front section so maybe there could a ways to make it more robust All in all, again a great model, challenging, many power functions, lot fun to build and also I did learn a few things in terms of mechanics. . I am looking forward so see a new product with the same challenge My next product is the plane. Long live Lego

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Father and Son Project Excellent Father and Son project. My son is 12. I marked that it took 6 days to complete the project. We did not work constant on the project. My guess would be 5 to 6 hours a day. But we had a very good time together workin on this. We did have a couple of complaints. Some of the pictures of where parts are to be placed arent very good. Some explanations are lackin. The parts bags were not numbered as they are in other kits. We opened ALL the bags and separated all the parts and put them in containers to make it easier for us to find the correct parts needed for each step. The only changes I would make is havin the bags numbered as with other kits and some of the illustrations could be a little better. Other than that I think its a very good kit for some Father/Son time. This kit being the most complicated we have done together but not the only kit period, we both had a good time with it. A lot better than my son in 1 room with electronic games of some kind and me in the other room wonderin if his brain is not gettin fried.............

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A lot of clicky-clacky but an overall good experie There are plenty of functions, which really baffled me compared to the much huger 42009 Mobile Crane MK II. The complexity of the build is not a high as the 42009, but it's more dense and focused around the gearbox. Using the power functions requires a attention if you want to avoid a to of clicking, but even though, when using one of the functions with the pneumatics you will need to hear the clicking for it to operate correctly. The pneumatics are my favorite part of this set, having never seen it in action before.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Build I enjoyed building this, especially the gearbox area. The clutch gear is not used for the stabiliser and main boom causing the some jumping of the gears if they reach the end of their stop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed, a few minor flaws I really liked the finish product of this model and it has probably been the most enjoyable Technic Model I've built yet. The towing arm is very intricate and complex with multiple automated functions. The truck's frame is built around the arm and its mechanics and its dimensions are probably the reason why Lego choose to make this a semi-truck tow truck and not a regular tow truck. The finished model is pretty big and will take up a fair amount of shelf space, but unlike some Technic models that feel hollow on the inside there isn't a lot of "empty" space in the model and it feels very compact for its size and functionality. The few flaws i found were that the steering was "clicky" and not very smooth and I also believe that my kit was missing one minor piece that caused me to make a small cosmetic alteration.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Service Truck needs servicing! Best things about this set: - First set to have two small pneumatic cylinders. - Green parts. I hope we will see more of these in Technic sets and that it is not just using up the stocks of parts made for previous sets like 8063 Tractor and Trailer. Problems: - The white clutch gear acts only on the winch. This means the stabiliser and main boom functions hit their end stops and cause jumping of the gears. The main boom universal joints popped off the Linear Actuator. Many previous sets have placed the clutch gear between the motor and the function gear selectors. - The pneumatic hoses are in the way of the wheel lift when built according to the instructions. Turning the cylinder round can improve this but then the hoses are in the way when the stabilisers are deployed. The red tube could be removed and the 10M axle could be replaced with two 4M axles and a stepped-back link (e.g. with 1x2 "++" half beams and a 3M axle) to provide room for the hoses whilst handling the stabiliser loads. - The winch boom extension is not long enough to avoid the winch hook fouling the wheel lift in its upper position when the main boom is at the top of its travel. The winch seems to be the only reason to raise the main boom so high. Perhaps a larger pneumatic cylinder would have allowed a larger lever to be used for a longer extension. - Motor cable routing was not clear in the instructions. I had to modify it after building just to make it reach the battery box but also to stay clear of the steering gears. Fixing these problems and monitoring when functions reached their end stops meant my truck spent most of its time with the green side panels removed. Less serious things I didn't like: - The chassis bends a bit by the grey triangular brackets when there is significant load on the wheel lifter. Could do with a 13M beam each side to stiffen it; the grey cross-beam could be extended. There is a general point about studless chassises being less stiff for the number of beams, which has not been learnt since the advent of studless sets and is a reduction in the quality and feel of the sets. A better blend of studless and traditional brick beams might be better - brick beams for a stiff chassis and studless beams for vertical bracing and accessories. Make more use of the half beams as well. - Cross beams at the rear wheels can move about. This is sloppy and could be fixed easily with 2 cross blocks, 2 3M axles and longer pegs in the chassis for each rear axle. - 4-wheel steering has the right effect and the front wheels have a better rake then some sets but the steering struggles with these wheels. The aim of a steering mechanism is to get the kingpin pivots as close to the centre of the wheels as possible - look at real vehicles. The wheel width is too wide for front wheels of this diameter. There is a narrower wheel that should have been used instead - wheel design ID 56904 and tyre 56898, which were used in tractor 8260. The front axle beams would have been longer with those wheels; I hope they will be used more in future. - The yellow function controls are laid out OK but the battery box switch is not so easily accessible for changing direction. - The truck has 9 functions including the motor, so £90 is probably enough to pay. Might be good on discount though. - Not worth downloading instructions for such a long-build alternative model. Who has enough space around their computer to build a large set? As a building experience, the gearbox part was the most enjoyable. There was a lot of building of non-technical items at the end - the cab and side panels. As usual some things could have specified building two of the same sub-assembly and them splitting into two mirrored sections, like the doors where a different panel is added to the same set of half beams. Considering the more expensive parts in the set, it is worth buying if you want the wheels, pneumatics and green parts and don't mind having another motor and battery box. There are a lot of long red beams too. For me it was better as a parts pack than for the model itself. A pneumatic steam engine could be made with the parts from this set. Get each cylinder to push the switch for the other one and use a higher gear ratio between the motor and the compressor than the truck model uses. This truck makes a good companion for the flatbed truck 8109 but perhaps it's time for the next truck in this series to be something other than a breakdown vehicle. It's not easy to find vehicles with enough functions but perhaps an unfolding fairground ride truck would be possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product with Lots of Functionality Hi, I like the product because of its features you are getting pneumatic as well as motorized functions in only one set that costs only $129.99. The only thing I am disappointed with is the differentials, it is not having differentials. So, there is no engine under the cabin. And the rear tires are very close to each other as compared to front. But the set is very good and you can use your old sets with it to lift them. Well that's all for this time see you again next time. Buy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Set! But a little expensive This set was great. It not only looks good, but it is also fun to play with. It wasn't too challenging to build, and anyone could have fun building it. The only bad thing about it is that it is somewhat expensive for what the final build turns out to be. It is smaller than I expected for the price, but overall, it is a great set!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool to build, cool to play with! This set is one of the greatest lego technic sets I've seen. 1. It looks really good. It looks like a real service truck. 2. You open the panels on the side to access the controls, just like on a real truck. 3. It features pneumatics and to different motorized telescopic arms. 4. It is very cool to build because the technic is build in red and recovered by green pieces. 5. it has got 7 different functions; 4 motorized, 2 pneumatic and 1 manual. 6. the interior is very detailed and features a steering-wheel, seats, doors that open, info panels and side-mirrors. This isn't all. But I will not reveal more. If you like building and/or playing, this is definitely a set for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Service Truck It's a nice thing, although the crane part goes too high. The value of the set is fair, I'd say. Because it's put into a lot of detail for some parts. The there a lot of pros and cons. I'd rate this as 'Good'

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not really worth the high price tag Although the service truck has a sleek look, it just doesn't deliver for the high price, I would think possibly $100 would be fairer. Compare it to the #8109 Flatbed Truck with wheel lift from year 2011. That was $89 USD and although smaller in size, but the same scale as this Service Truck, it had many features similar to this truck, just without a useless, in my estimation, crane arm. I don't like the fact that as you raise the crane arm and hook onto a vehicle with the wheel lift, the wheel lift raises much too high. However, the alternate model truck with the grappler and trailer is the best use of this set,, BUT then you have to download or print (and most of us don't have room to build in front of our computers) 299 pages. Its too bad Lego doesn't include alternate instruction manuals in larger sets any longer. 299 pages is kind of over the top as most pages just have steps involving only very few parts unlike the main model instructions where the manuals offer steps with many parts to attach, thereby reducing the manuals to much less pages as opposed to the alternate model instruction 'manuals'.
