Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointment My son (7) had fun with this the day it arrived. He really hasn't picked it up since. I gave it a try and found it hard to look through and really couldn't see anything. I think he had the same problem. When the scope arrived, it was not in the factory package. It split open and the scope was loose and had come apart. I'm not sure if it was put back together correctly because it came with no type of "manual" or instructions on how to put it together or how to use it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs work This is a great concept but needs some work on execution. It's finicky and needs too much work to get objects in focus. Also felt flimsy and I was worried that it would easily break. My kids are very gentle on toys and they both said they were worried about twisting it too far and it falling apart.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun for my son, but quality not the greatest My 7-yr old son received this pocket scope. The pocket clip fell off almost immediately, but the telescope / microscope component of this pen has held up for a couple weeks now. He enjoys playing spy games and has added it to his spy toy collection. It doesn't seem like the sturdiest toy, but it's held up thus far, in terms of use and enjoyment. However, it's more of a novelty toy. The pen can't be focused, so the microscope component of this only works if you put something on the table and put this directly on top of it. You could really only look at a dollar bill, or insect wing, or something very flat like that, so it has limited usefulness. The telescope end of the pen also does not focus, but it seems OK for looking at things that are far away. My son would give this 5 stars for fun, and I give it 3 stars for quality, so we compromised at 4 stars. My son received this as a product tester, in exchange for an honest review. This opinion is all our own.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little disappointed It didn't come with any instructions, so it was a bit confusing at first, we were able to figure out what side to look thru by using the picture on the package. It works ok as a telescope for far away, but the microscope part my kids couldn't figure out how to see anything up close, it was all a blur. It was tricky for them to figure out how to focus (8 yo girl, 6 yo boy), eventually they gave up. We have a big backyard, so it was fun to look at things far away, but eventually they became frustrating with the lack of focus they could control and cast it aside.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs directions I received this product for my son in exchange for an honest review. He was very excited to try it as soon as it arrived. We got it out of the packaging and I noticed there were no instructions other than a few pictures on the back. The telescope end seems to work ok. We could not figure out how to see anything through the microscope end. I did turn the tube a little, but feared it might come apart after reading other reviews. It seemed to bring things into focus a little more but not enough to see details on small objects. My son had fun with the telescope end but was frustrated with the microscope end.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Really cool toy until it falls apart My son received this for Christmas - it worked great - so exciting to see him inspecting EVERYTHING!!! But then as he was focusing, it fell apart and a bunch of pieces came tumbling out. We have tried numerous times to reinsert the tubes and lenses - unsuccessfully. It should have directions for just this problem! And maybe glue the ends on!!! Very disappointing to lose such a fun and educational toy in this way! I say I would recommend to a friend BUT only if they immediately glue in the screw caps first!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great fun..for 15 minutes The first one I bought was completely out of focus, not matter what you did, you could not use it, so I brought it back to give it another shot. This one worked fine and is a great item, but fell apart in 15 minutes. If the company could manage to make it more durable since the main users are children, that would be helpful. I hate throwing money away, but one, hour and a half trip to replace it is all I'm going to do..the second one ended up in the garbage after just an hour....15 minutes of use and 45 minutes of trying to put it back together to make it work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from what a bummer My son loved his telescope, until it broke. He was looking at absolutely everything with it, which was pretty fun to watch. Anyway, I went online to see how I could put it back together, but there are no directions anywhere online. Bummer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Falls Apart Easily - NON Lasting Fun My daughter is in tears because I can not figure out how to put the pieces back in. If only there were a re-assembly sheet. We had it for nearly 20 minutes and it fell apart. Please Help.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from How do you put it back together? Like other reviewers said, it fell apart and I can't get it back together so that it works correctly. I do not want a replacement as I'm not into wasting. I do not want to keep throwing this toy away. Instead, I think it would behoove the company to find out how to put it together and provide us instructions.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Easy to disassemble without instructions Christmas morning. Daughter loves it; it's her most used gift. An hour later, we're sitting on the couch when she asks how to put it back together. She had twisted the eye-piece off (it's threaded). A couple of lenses, spacers, and a spring fell into her lap. I checked the box thinking it would certainly include reassembly directions--wrong! Checked online, including here... no directions! Why make a product for curious minds that doesn't consider what those minds will do?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Falls Apart Bought this item for my son as a stocking-stuffer and it was "that" item that he and his brother fought over since it was so cool. Unfortunately the thing fell apart after about 20 minutes and they brought it to me in pieces. I was expected to reassemble the ten or so pieces (lenses, spring, spacers, etc.) with no chance. I saw the other comment on this site with the same issue, so apparently there is no information available on reassembly. It needs to be childproofed!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not recomended While the scope is fun, it easily comes apart, which is fine if you can put it back together. Unfortunately, there are no directions for how to do so. I called the company and was told that "there are no directions. It is not supposed to come apart." My son and I were looking forward to seeing the sequence and reassembling it together. I would not recommend it. If it was not supposed to come apart, then the eyepiece should be glued and not threaded, which easily comes off with the curiousity of a young person wondering how it is made.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from See a freckle up close! This product is super cool. Not only is it a telescope, but it doubles as sort of a microscope that doesn't require light. I looked at the freckle on my arm and my nephew used it to see details on a penny. Love this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great outdoor toy! My kids love taking their Pocket Scope outside and looking at different insects and bugs. They also like to look at different flowers and leaves up close to see all the patterns they have up close!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 5 year old daughter loves this toy I brought the Pocket Scope home for my daughter who had shown an interest in science. Although it took some time and patience to learn how to focus it, she had a blast looking at the fibers in her jeans, grass out front, sand, and lots of other things. We haven't tried it as a telescope yet, but look forward to doing so. All in all, a great buy for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Entertaining and educational This is a totally entertaining and easy-to-use microscope (and telescope). Hold it to your arm and see your arm hairs magnified--WAY cool. Check out the print in magazines, the salt on a pretzel, grains of sand--the possibilities are endless. It's great that you don't need any batteries.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bummer. I asked for a spy glass for Christmas and received this. From the get go, it was iffy. It was out of focus and needed lots of cajoling to see anything and even when it would "work" the image was grainy/fuzzy. Closer inspection revealed that the internal components were dirty. I screwed off the back viewing piece, gathered everything together after the 5 or 6 pieces inside came spewing out, wiped them with a cloth for cleaning glasses and reassembled the lot (several times until it was correct). This fixed the issue but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Dirty optics, regardless of the price tag is weak. Oh, and the clip stinks. It bent and broke after clipping and unclipping it from my rucksack 10 or 12 times.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great idea but cheaply made I bought this pocket scope for my 11 year old daughter to put in her Christmas stocking. She loved it....for about 3 hours and then it broke. Unfortunately, I had to go on line and buy another one for her because she was completely devasted and heart broken that she couldn't use it anymore :(
