Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 50's Furniture! Bought this around christmas time and my grand kids have loved playing with it. We first just had the I-pad mini which is too small for the TV, but they still found a way to lay it in the console and watch the movies they made. Even if you don't buy the TV, you can just download the App and create a video without the TV console. It is a great App! But the TV Console makes it better--great addition to Mary Ellen's collection. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TV Console Great tv console but you must have an Apple ipad to work all the features on the tv. We invested in an ipad for my Granddaughter and she loves making her own movies with her AG dolls. It also plays 50's music. This console is made very well. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Maryellen's TV Console Love the TV Console it's adorable but when I put my iPad in it to use the app features, the buttons placement on the console do not line up with my iPad so I am unable to use all of the functionality of the console. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just OK if you don't have an Ipad My daughter really wanted this to go with ME, even though I explained to her that most of the features require an iPad (we're a kindle family). It's ok without it, but doesn't give much value as there's not much to do without it [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A blast from my past! Those of us who grew up in the 50's all had TV Stereo combos like this! And we all had a set of encyclopedias also. How many times did our parents tell us "Go look it up!" This is a great way to teach children how we used to do things...no cable TV, no iPods for music, no google or Alexa to look everything up for us! Great toy and it inspires great memories and teachable moments! Thank you, AG!!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun little entertainment set! My daughter really wanted this and she does play with it but probably not as much as some of her other things. It is fun because you can use your iPad with it to watch some retro tv. For the price though it just feels like it needs to do a bit more or come with a bit more. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Historically accuracte but not much for play I'm trying to collect all of Maryellen's items so this big piece was a must-have. I like that it's historically accurate and unique. My kids can't believe TV's were this big at one time. I don't really like that it's just a big piece of plastic and an odd color. The encyclopedia's are a great touch but I kind of wish they were not permanently in place plastic. I do love that the records will hold up to being played with a lot and are easy for a younger child to figure out. I like that the tv buttons that really work. The record sleeves and the bonsai tree are very fragile so I don't think they would hold up to any real play. We don't have an IPad but if you do I think older girls would be able to have much more play value using that. This is still a really cool piece to have for Maryellen and I'm glad I got it on sale. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute and sturdy We love Maryellen's collection and recently got this piece when it was on sale. We have an iPad mini which I understand doesn't work with this, but the next time we need an iPad we'll likely get the regular sized one and can then utilize the video making features on it. For now, it's just really cute looking with our other Maryellen items. It really is adorable! My only complaint is that the plant almost immediately fell apart - the flower part and leaves right underneath them were in pieces. I could put them back on, but it has happened again since then so they'll likely need a little super glue. Until then i've told the kids not to play with the plant so we don't lose all of the tiny little pieces to it. I recommend this but was glad to get it on sale. Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME!! When AG put this on sale I broke down and purchased it. I don't think I will utilize all the tricks it can do, but I am happy to have it. It compliments and completes ME's living room. I always thought it looked awesome, but I didn't want to pay the price when I really don't know how to do videos. Who knows, give the granddaughters a couple more years and they will probably teach me! I recommend this set, and I highly recommend this set if you know how to use it! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks just like the Fifties!! I love Maryellen's TV! It looks just like what a TV in the fifties would look like. I love that you can make a video and play it through the TV or use the app for Maryellen's version of her TV. I do understand if you don't have an I pad it would be frustrating. To allow more people to purchase the product it would have been good to have more devices work in Maryellen's TV. Otherwise i love the records, the cute plant. Any girl or collector would love this item, especially if you have an I Pad. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing, and Great Price! It works great with iPad! It has a very protective case to put the iPad in, so it will not break. The speakers actually work when the music turns on it is nice and loud! There is amazing detail. It has 3 records to put in the record player, a plant, and encyclopedias on the shelf. Sadly, it does not work with the iPad mini, though. We love it. Great item, definitely recommend! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I really wanted to like this. Bought for my daughters birthday, it is rather great looking and a really fun concept, but I just can't see letting my daughter have free reign of the iPad all the time. It's absolutely necessary for iPad to use this. It would be nice when iPad is not available for her to use, to have another feature. It's just not my favorite. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great if you own an IPAD The TV is really cute and is a lot of fun if you own an IPAD but without the app it is not much fun for kids. The TV does not function at all without the app nor does the radio. It would be better if it had an option to use it without an IPAD, like Kit's radio that will play short bits of music and news clips without having to use an external device unless you want to. As an adult I love the quality and think its pretty cool but my grandkids don't play with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mary Ellen's TV I am sooooo disappointed with this piece. $85.00 for a pressed out piece of plastic that does nothing, records don't play (at least Julie's record player does) TV is basically just a prop unless you own an iPad. Dear American Girl, Not everyone is an Apple follower, nor can most of us just hand over an iPad to be used as a toy. Big bust and this piece is getting returned!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this TV console! My husband saw the video for this and wanted to get it for my daughter. She plays with this constantly. She makes videos on her iPad with marionettes or cartoon drawings she has done or even with some of her dolls. It is so easy to switch between shows or songs on the record with the knobs. I love that you can adjust the screen with the rabbit ears. I wish the encyclopedias could come out and open, but overall we are very pleased with this set. Rated 4 out of 5 by from A lot of fun but also a lot of work My daughter was so excited to get this. It's adorable but playing with it can be tricky. You can't create videos in the app so you have to create them on the ipad and then edit them in the app. Also getting the ipad in and out of the case is not something a child can do on their own. Regardless, it's a super fun toy as long as you are willing to help out :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fun tv This product does not have much use if you don't have an apple iPad. If you do,it is really fun! It would be a little better if you could take out the encyclopedias and actually have writing in them like the little books that the dolls come with. I have an apple iPad and I think it is fun to have your doll watch your movies you make!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Coolest Toy Ever Made This has to be the coolest toy ever made. I would have loved this if I ever had anything this cool as kid growing up. As an adult I was blown away the first time I saw it. I could not stop smiling and it makes you giggle. It is very nicely made. It looks exact to a TV of the 50's. I remember my grandmother having a TV that had the same look. She also had a bonsai tree on a table near her TV and a bookcase with encyclopedia books. So this really did it for me with cosmetic features. The records with printed sleeves that have a classic 50's print the TV itself with the working AP is incredible! I love how the black and white picture looks and you can hear the crackle in the sound of the TV and record player. The best feature that I lost it over was the static on the screen when you adjust the rabbit ears. I remember adjusting tthem and even giving the TV a hit with the hand trying to get the picture to come in. The only thing that is a shame is if you do not have apple I pad of a certain size to fit inside. I understand however it would be impossible for them to manufacture this to fit more than what is already does. It must have some sort of electronic fingers inside that press the pad to operate and it could only be designed to fit so much. I assume they picked Apple since it is the most popular device. I have apple I pad that fits but it is a shame for those who don't have it to fit. If you do, it is the best purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really cool and fun purchase! Love this tv! My daughter has been playing with it for a couple of weeks now and is still going. It's amazing for her imaginative play. It's also super easy to use with our iPad. I wish I waited to give her this for Christmas because I'm not sure I'll be able to beat this gift!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice idea Fun purchase! My granddaughters enjoy playing with this piece but it is another piece of plastic furniture to go with the rest of Maryellen's furniture collection. I only wonder how long it will last with prolonged play. Your prices remain high while the quality is on the decline. Such a shame!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So cute, So sad you must have an apple to use This TV console is adorable and I love that it is true to the era. We recently visited the store in Dallas and it looked so cute in the whole living room. I think the price is not as bad as some items for what you potentially get, but it is very upsetting that you must have some form of Apple electronic pad to be able to fully utilize this product. If this becomes available for use with other brands besides Apple, then I think it will be much more attractive. Not everyone in the world owns one....or wants to, so hopefully this may be something that can be addressed...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wish we could use iPad mini My 10 yo daughter really likes this console TV. I find it is a little diffucult to take the iPad out at times and I sometime think I may break the snaps (since they are plastic) because they are so hard to turn. I really would like to have been able to use an iPad mini in the console since that is what my daughter has. She must use my full sized iPad anytime she plays with this console. The movies are lots of fun and she has enjoyed the console very much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maryellen's TV Console I have purchased an assortment of things over the years, but this product has been the most fun. Yes,at age 64 I have played with it. Fortunately for me my granddaughter whose gift it was didn't mind sharing it with me. The details as in so many of your products were precise. The 50's came alive in my living room. It may not have been the best purchase ever, but it certainly was close. It was also a hoot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very clever idea but needs some tweaking Maryellen's TV Console is an idea with a lot of potential that may still need some perfecting. The idea is really awesome to have a means to make videos and play them on Maryellen's TV. The app is really cool and gives several different options for recording videos. I couldn't figure out how to save them but my 8-year-old said I was doing it wrong. The Ipad is then put into a piece that slides into the console, where you can even turn the antenna and make the TV fuzzy. The app also has an option for playing the records. It is a really neat idea, but not everyone has an Ipad, or even a parent that has an Ipad that they are okay with being put into a toy. So the problem is if you don't have an Ipad you can use, the console doesn't really do anything. I think it would've been much better if the records really played, just like on Rebecca or Julie's player, and if they encyclopedia's actually came out and had things written in them. I feel like if this item had been made a few years ago, it would've been some gorgeous wood, with records that played, and encyclopedias with writing in them. If you like making doll videos and have an Ipad, I would recommend it and say that it is definitely fun and has a lot of play value, though I will say that it is very noisy when the piece holding the Ipad locks into place, which my daughter really didn't like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING AG PRODUCT This is by far my daughters favorite AG product. My parents got it for her and she can't stop playing with it. I love that takes modern technology and teaches her what life was like in the 60's. Kids these days have no idea what watching TV was like. Even her older brother thinks its cool! The quality is as usual fantastic and well worth the price paid. Thank you again for bringing fantasy to reality! :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great idea but not quite like the video When I got MaryEllen, my daughter looked at her accessories and had to have the console and after I read the description and watched the video, I agreed. We had a lot of fun making our own News Reports with our AG dolls, but after we put the iPad in the console, my daughter was disappointed that we couldn't get the picture to go fuzzy by moving the antenna like in the video. Between the 2 of us we tried it at least 10 times with no success. I also was surprised that I didn't break the console, since it's plastic with how many times I put the iPad in and out. ( so I guess it's good quality plastic!) Making the videos is fun and it does look cool on the tv, especially since it's black and white just like the 50's. It's a great accessory to have and worth the money in my opinion, but I do wish we could get it to go fuzzy and I agree with another reviewer who wished the record player would at least have a moveable arm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome TV~ but a little too pricey We brought this for my Daughter for Christmas ~ I like this item, but in my opinion it is way overpriced. Unless you have an Ipad the special feature does you no good. The TV appearance is perfect for the time period.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Console TV Cuteness My daughter bought this with her birthday money and she loves it! The making of your own movie to watch on the TV is great! The TV as a whole is really cute, and the records and record player just add to the charm. I do wish there was somewhere to store the records other than on top of the console though. The bonsai tree is cute too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TV Console Oh my goodness, we have had such a great time with this console! Making videos has been a fun way to spend time together. You do need an iPad to enjoy all of the features {which might influence your choice to buy/not to buy}. I really appreciate the thought/creativity that went into the production of this toy! This might be our favorite AG piece in Maryellen's set.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Loved this.... if it weren't for the ipad issue I am an adult collector and the first time I saw this I was mind blown and decided to get it. That is until I saw about the ipad. I don't have an ipad, nor would I buy one just to be able to use the TV at it's full capability. Wish AG would have included different apps for android and not just apple. Many little girls don't have an ipad which is what makes this item extraordinary. I decided to get the new TV set of the Truly Me collection that eventhough doesn't have an app, it has many nice little things to make it special and the screen looks truly realisitc when you turn it on. I do recommend this, but only if your girl has the ipad cause if she doesn't, I suspect that she will be very dissapointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice touch for a 50's room but not for us My granddaughter and I were all excited about a doll from my childhood era being introduced and my granddaughter really loved the idea of the TV, until we found out that in order for us to use the TV to it's full potential we would have to own or purchase an iPad. My 9 year old granddaughter and I own our share of electronics but an iPad isn't one of them. Between computers, tablets, iPods, iPhones I don't see a need for an iPad so even though I think the TV is cute and could be played with without the iPad I don't see us purchasing it. Instead I think we will be purchasing the TV in the Truly Me collection, that way my granddaughter can enjoy it with her dolls without wishing for an iPad to get full use out of the product every time she plays with it. I wish that the designer and AG had considered other alternatives. iPad's have a hefty price tag that would be added on top of the $85 price tag for the TV and could easily bring the final cost to well over the price of Graces Bakery. These are primarily toys for girls not just a collectible line. I think that girls would be let down if they knew that the TV has the potential to do all these great things but they can't use it because they don't own and iPad and aren't going to get one just to use it with this TV. So would I recommend it? yes as long as you don't mind that using it to it's full potential requires an iPad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Audio-in jack like the jukebox This item was for me, 69 yrs. young. I have an iPad that works with the console and it is amazing! But I have two issues, maybe one is "fixable". First the record player should be able to play any songs (classic rock-and-roll, of course) on any music device that has a headphone jack. The second item would involve an upgrade to the Maryellen app, and that is possible. I would like to be able to position a movie that I already have in the TV screen area and play it - primarily old family home movies and photo slideshows. They are mostly from Maryellen's era and I'd love to play them on the TV Console. Maybe someday...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks fabulous! I have to agree with the last reviewer in several aspects. I realize the scale is not true, but.....we only have so much room for these items! Overall, the appearance is just adorable. It is exactly like the one we had back in the early 1950's. It would have been nice not having to deal with an ipod to work with it, as many of us are not ipod smart and don't own one. Maybe some changeable screens for the television, like something from Howdy Doody, Mickey Mouse Club, etc. But, those are probably licensed and can't be used. Or like the other reviewer said, an ability to connect a music device to the stereo. But a lucky little girl who has an ipod and know how to use it , well, it would be fantastic for them. I do like the piece and it goes with the sofa bed and the end table (which is another reason I shelled out the $85 for it). Actually, I prefer the plastic (doesn't chip like the wood products) and the color of the cabinet is spot on! Blonde wood was "in" back then! I like it and I am very happy with my purchase!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great potential as a "blast from the past"! *****1) It's adorable: I'm delighted with the 1954 TV console! I bought it for myself (65 yo grandmother), with 2 grdgtrs aged 2 and 13. ****2) The design is remarkable. It is a little out of proportion (small) for the 18" dolls. (They tower over it, and that's not how I remember it! LOL **3) I have a huge AG collection including Julie's "1974" tape recorder, Molly's "1934" radio; & the Apple desktop computer & laptop for dolls in late 1990s early 2000s. I admit to being disappointed that the record player in the 1954 "entertainment center" is not able to play (with batteries, like the radio, computers, & tape decks in past years' items). Even if the recorder player "arm" would lift over and back, it would have increased play potential. . ***4) Perhaps I'm expecting far too much: but I wish that at least some of the cabinet would look like wood or even be made out of wood, like Kit's roll-top desk. ****5) The "speakers" and "rabbit ears" are perfection! I love the encyclopedias...great addition! Again, too small for the proportion of the 18" dolls. Encyclopedias took two hands to lift...these don't move at all, and if they did, they would be a small Reader's Digest size vs and encyclopedia. The size of the hardbacks in the prior mini-dolls, the Fantasia book, and "Molly's" Nancy Drew book would be ideal. **********5) The ability to make one's own movies and "TV" shows is completely INCREDIBLE. MIND BOGGLING. And to be able to watch movies on the set must be breath-taking. Certainly the fact that I don't OWN an Apple iPad is very disappointing! I expect others will have that problem, too...and I'm not sure it's worth buying for a young girl if she doesn't have an iPad...because without the iPad, it really doesn't DO anything...just a set piece. That's why I had hoped that SOMETHING operated with batteries. Overall, of COURSE I recommend it, and congratulate the designer.
