Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for girls who love Astronomy When I was trying to choose between this telescope set and the one for Girl of the Year Luciana (STEM girl), I decided on this set and am glad I did. I'll say right at the start that both sets have issues with being able to see the "telescope" images clearly (that is why I gave this set four rather than five stars.). With this Science Fair Set the issue is an optics problem that could only be fixed by redesigning the width and length of the telescope. Holding the telescope so that you're looking at the stellar image pointed at a bright light such as a bright lamp or sunny window (but NEVER pointed right at the sun!) does help, or one can just look at the individual images by themselves, holding them up close, outside the telescope. That said, this is a great set. The images American Girl chose for this telescope are more geared toward girls who are interested in what's up there in our wondrous night sky (many of Luciana's telescope's images are about space technology). A girl who loves the Natural Sciences will find this a satisfying set. The telescope's shape also looks more realistically like the sort of small telescope a family might have for viewing the night sky (except for its bright aqua blue colour!). My Dad had one of these when I was a child, and it was an incomparable thrill to go to the top of the mountain to look at the sorts of views this little doll-size telescope shows us. The school project display board looks a lot better in person than I expected it to from the website photo. It's fun to turn the little knobs and see changing phases of the moon or the answers to questions. It's especially fun to personalize it by adding the planets and stars stickers. (I found that the planets stickers with their information labels tended to get loose after several repositionings, so when I had everything the way I wanted it, I put wide, clear packing tape over that part of the board to hold them all down. A child might prefer being able to change them around later, though.) There are enough star stickers to create a couple of basic constellations (if one is not too fussy about star magnitude and such); it would be great if there were a few more star stickers, especially the big ones. This display board is very sturdy, and will hold up to play; ditto for the little plastic turning knobs. Finally that 1st Place ribbon is beautiful, and very well made. It looks great with the rest of the set; I taped mine in the back to hold it in place, so it drapes over the front. (But 1st Place ribbons are always dark blue; it's the 2nd Place ribbons that are red. But "Best in Show" ribbons are also red; maybe that was what American Girl had in mind.) Young science-loving girls will love this set! I know I do. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great spending Very realistic and if you look through it you can. But when you put the stickers on they are a little to close together. But a great spending of money. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needs more info but Great product!!! I got this a few months ago and I Love how it is STEM based. But I think it could use a note pad with not about the planet's like my daughter did and a little more info to but in other words great product. If I could give the product a 4 1/2 stars I would. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! We got this before Luciana came out because my daughter is really into space and has her own telescope! All the items that come with it are good quality and really cute! You can actually look through the telescope to see different things in space!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful in my classroom I bought this when it was marked down, then I brought it to the classroom before my own science fair. They thought the telescope was cool, and they liked the interchangeable lens slides, although I was a little nervous with their play; these do seem fragile. I had already set up the board, and they noticed that the stickers were peeling up. Then, because I run a science fair annually, they noticed that the scientific method was missing. Hmmmm. So what do they need on their own boards? This was a great learning tool, and a very good idea. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Science lover Bought this for my little science lover. Telescope is plastic and sturdy. Comes with lots of scenes and the viewfinder works. Only complaint is the planets stickers on the solar system are too close where the stickers kind of overlap each other. We bought this on sale so it was worth the sale price. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just ok...... I was disappointed in this. As well as my daughter. It stays mostly in a drawer and doesn’t get touched. Seems “cheap” and too many little pieces to get lost. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun and active set. The science fair telescope and display are excellent quality. My daughter reads it every time she plays with it. I consider this an extra bonus. The circle chart for the planets is crowded for the stickers. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a great set! My daughter chose this when we made a special trip to the Alpharetta store. She loves everything about science, and she was super excited to find the telescope actually worked with the special slides. She enjoyed putting stickers on the project board, and has been playing with it with her Marie Grace doll ever since. I would definitely recommend this to any children who enjoy science. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great science fair set I bought this for my daughter's birthday as she has entered a few annual science fairs and wanted her dolls to participate as well! It's a great set with the telescope and the poster backdrop like you'd see at any science fair. We love how the telescope has something that you place on the viewfinder so you can actually look through it and see various images of stars and planets. Super fun and goes well with the other classroom accessories. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All in all a great set but are some minnor issues. it is a great set. But, The stickers which came in the set keep peeling off the board. On true or false wheel, one of the sections is upside down causing it to be hard to turn the wheel the right way. I was very glad to see that the science ribbon was not pink and was fabric. I was a little upset to see the image is blurry and very light when looking through the telescope. The science board is a very thick card board and the purple is nicely done. Before this I had bought the other science set. I loved that set so much I decided to get this one. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Backboard Too Big Pros: The telescope is COOL. I would buy this again just for the scope. Cons: My biggest problem with this set is that the backboard is ginormous! We have a huge dollhouse for our AG dolls, and this just doesn't seem to scale. It won't even really fit on the classroom desk, so even though it's high quality, glossy, and looks neat, it won't be played with. Also, the different space pics you put into the end of the telescope are flimsy and won't last if girl isn't careful. You can't see them that well through the telescope either, so it's "cool" but not "awesome." [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Cool! I might not have chosen this set for my daughter, but when we visited an AG store this is what she chose. She was likely drawn to it b/c of the telescope which was on display. When we got home with it I easily assembled it (really you just have to snap 2 pieces of the telescope together) & the stickers went on their proper places on the board. At first I couldn't figure out how to get the slides in the telescope but then we realized there are like 5 slides in 1 and you can only fit 1 into the telescope slot at a time. Once we realized that our daughter had no trouble sliding them in and out on her own. Also the board is fun with lots of facts & true/false questions about astronomy. She is already loving looking through at the slides & after a little while of playing with it said 'I love science'.... any toy that makes my almost 6 yr old daughter come to that conclusion is a winner in my book & i'm glad she chose it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Realistic! This is one of the most realistic sets I own! The wide range of playing possibilities and adorable components make it well worth the money! The telescope blows me away - only American Girl would make a doll toy that actually worked like this one does. Okay, so you can't actually look at a real sky with the telescope, but the five beautiful slides included with this set more than make up for that! The telescope can even be folded up by its tripod legs or extended using the focusing knob. Another great component of this set is the display board, which includes really fun learning activities and fun facts about outer space. It folds up for easy storage and can stand without additional support on a table or desk. A realistic ribbon and some pretty planet stickers complete this super set by adding an extra special touch. I highly recommend this set - your girl will have tons of fun playing "science fair" with her doll! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cute but hardly played with. My daughter wanted this for her classroom set up for the longest time. It's much bigger than I expected it to be...while cosmetic it's a nice set...it just really sits on display and not played with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too cool for School This is perfect for "science lab" in my granddaughter's doll school. Set up was easy. The planets were on the chart in a blink and play started immediately. My granddaughter's use this in the doll classroom as well as assigning it as a science fair project for their dolls. Imaginative play takes many forms with the different parts of this play set. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not The Quality I Expect... Online, this set looked so fun! So, I ordered it, and I was disappointed because the quality of the pieces was not AG quality. The poster is cardboard, but it is cute. It has some play value, as you can read true and false questions, and turn a wheel and figure out the answer! Also, I thought it was nice that you can easily read the information on the poster, and how it is really based on outer space! The telescope, personally, was the worst part of the whole set. The assembly was very easy, but my telescope always seems to break. The AG website claims that you, and your doll, can look through the telescope(with some screens, that have pictures of things in the outer space. You just stick the screens in, but, they never seem to stay in.)but really you can hardly see the screens! The only the good thing about the telescope, was that you can 'zoom in', and out, but that definitely does not affect what you see! Finally, the ribbon. It's okay, but then again, it is just a ribbon. There is really nothing special about it. This set, of course, includes some stickers, but I really don't recommend putting on the poster or the telescope. So really, I don't see the point of adding stickers, if you can't really customize anything! Overall, this set is pretty cute for different and set-ups, but the quality of the items is not what you would expect for the price you pay.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More for show... The telescope looks really good, but the films are pretty hard to put in. It feels as if you have to use more force than should be used. My daughter gave up, fearful she was going to break it and asked me to do it (she's nine). Also when you look through the telescope the images from the films aren't all that clear, but I am glad that the films are of real images. That's nice. She really liked setting it up with all her other school accessories, though. It will look good in staging, but it's not really for play if changing the films out is part of it. If you like staging, however, this is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very cute for my little astrologist! I love this set, this is one of my daughter's favorites. Very cute, she loves the films that come with it. I wish the lab set was still available. I think having more science and technology for the dolls to pretend with helps the girls with their own interests!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute but design could have been better This is cute and my granddaughter loves the telescope. The display board doesn't stay open and other than that and the telescope you don't really get much for the price. I think it would sell better if it was a little cheaper priced.
