about

Branching out from classic Apples to Apples game play, Apples to Apples Freestyle introduces a whole new kind of creative fun – players get to make up their own hilarious answers!
Each round, a different player is the "judge" and turns over a card to reveal a fill-in-the-blank statement. Everyone else comes up with a word or phrase to fill in that blank and writes it down on their personal apple slate – and what they choose to write can be as crazy as they want it to be! The judge selects the best answer and decides the winner of that round. First player to win 4 rounds wins the game!

Offering customization, creativity, and constant laughter, Apples to Apples Freestyle game is perfect for the whole family!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great game but....... We love this game! The only problem is that there really aren't enough cards (especially when you look at the amounts in the regular edition apples to apples games). Once you play it several times, you know all of the cards which takes away a little from the charm of the game. Also - it is true that the packaging is very flimsy....we pretty much transferred everything to a plastic tub right away and invested in some extra dry erase markers as the ones that came with it didn't last long at all. Surprised there is not a card booster pack you can buy, I hoped there would be one by now! Please please please Mattel - make more card packs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great family game This is a great family game. I believe it's because there are no off-color cards. the "freestyle" version is a lot of fun for any age group and … the fact that everyone not only gets to "play" but also "judge" makes the game unpredictable. It's best played with 3 or more players. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Family Game I received this item in exchange for a honest review. Upon receiving this game I noticed how flimsy the container is. I just use a plastic container to store the game pieces. Also there are only five pens and erasable boards so if you have a large number of people playing then you will need to provide pens and paper. As far as the game goes there are two ways to play and my seven year old and I had lots of laughs and fun with each of them. Because the game is customizable it can be fun for any age group. I would definitely recommend this game to friends and family! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool game I thought apples to apples freestyle was a fun game. I especially liked being able to write in my own answers making each game truly unique. Also I find that it is a little more exciting that way because you never know what kind of answers you'll get. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Game!! Love this game! Great family fun. Hilarious answers. My 7yo was easily able to play this game and even my 4 yo enjoyed it. I simply helped the 4yo write his answers. Besides being fun, this game encouraged the kids to write their own answers which was great practice for their penmanship. Highly recommend! Only negative was I wish the game came in a durable box for storage and longevity. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun, fun, fun... Did I say fun? Friday nights are game nights in our home. It just happens that, that night my parents and sisters were over as well. The kids had a blast playing with everyone and it was fun seeing everyone's responses. The game is very engaging and instructions are easy to understand. We absolutely loved this game and we've played it more than any other board games we have. This is our all time favorite game so far. There's tons of cards to choose from so you're never playing and hearing the same responses. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great family and adult game This was such a wonderful game to play with my family. We've played it with grandparents, kids, and just adults. Even my 2 year old enjoyed coloring on the Apple and it kept him occupied while we all laughed our butts off. The game is simple and easy to understand. It can be shortened or lengthened for whatever time frame you have. Any kid who can write/read can play this game. It's hilarious to play as a family and even more hilarious and out of hand with just adults. It had us laughing at every turn. My one complaint is the packaging is not very sturdy so it doesn't hold up well in the cabinet. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You're going to laugh for hours! Apples to Apples Freestyle was a ton of fun! The wet erase boards could be a bit sturdier. We chose to use them as dry erase boards in hopes of keeping them in good shape longer. We had lots of laughs playing with all adults! If you've enjoyed other versions of Apples to Apples, you're sure to love this one! There was never a dull moment during our game! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic game for all ages! I have to start by saying I was a little skeptical that my son would enjoy this since he is only 8 and I did not know if he would quite understand the concept but I must say I was PLEASANTLY surprised. We played together for family game night and we had a BLAST! We all loved the idea of being able to fill in our own fun ideas and everyone caught on really well. This game is great to play as a family with kids or as an adult only game. My only minor complaint would be is to have some expo markers because the ones that come with it aren't too great, other than than it is FANTASTIC! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So much fun! I love this game. There is no right or wrong answer, and my kids had a blast! When I played it with my two oldest, I would read a card, and each off us took turns plugging in an answer, the funniest ones we could think of! We laughed so much as we played. Not only did it give us quality time, but it encouraged my kids to open their minds to new answers. My husband and I played it with a few friends, and it was still fun. A little young for us, but we enjoyed it enough. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lots of laughs Sitting down with my girls is a lot harder than I think. I don't remember the last time we played a game. This game was so funny. The answers they came up with were hilarious. Some of the questions had me stumped. The girls didn't want to stop playing not even to go play video games with the neighborhood kid, so we invited her to join and she loved it. Soon we had a full house of kids playing, all of them laughing and enjoying the answers . This game was great my 7 year old kind of had a hard time with spelling of words but it was a great thing to practice. Over all we all enjoyed ourselves and the kids come over regularly to play. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun for the whole family I have children ages 9 to 13. They all had fun playing as well as us parents! The instructions were clear and easy to follow so we got the hang of the game really quick. We all had a great time and it has become a favorite during our family game nights! I'm surely going to be purchasing a few for christmas presents for family and friends. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved Everything Except the Storage Box! We loved playing this with our kids, and also at a dinner party as an adults-only game! We're big fans of Apples to Apples and this was a fun new twist on a classic game. The only thing I don't like (and my kids obviously don't care) is the box - it's a weird shape and size for storing with our other games and it seems like it will be easily damaged over time. The markers also aren't great but do the job - we may replace with our own eventually. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good game The game is overall enjoyable, and can make you laugh. It definitely requires some creativity to play, and more than two players. If a player can't think up of a word to write then it kind of interrupts the game. Also, the word or phrase one writes down doesn't always fit the sentences. Some combinations simply don't make enough sense to be funny. It would help if there were suggestions or at least specified categories for what a player could write. The appearance of the game gives the impressions that it is directed towards a younger audience than intended. However, the apple-shaped wet erase boards are a positive aspect. They are reusable and convenient. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recaptures the original fun of Apples to Apples I really didn't expect to like this that much. Apples to apples was fun the first dozen or so times I played it, but then I was done and ready to move on to something else. Freestyle recaptures the fun of that first time you played the original Apples to Apples; the randomness and silliness bringing on a lot of laughs. We tried playing both ways, the first is with a card drawn and each player writes their own word or phrase to fill in the blank. The answers are as diverse as the players and the blanks to be filled in do a great job of setting up the laughs. The second way to play is to have one person write down a word or short phrase that is a person. place, thing and other players put down cards with blanks that the word or phrase goes into. This can take a little longer than the original version of the game, but it is far more fun and entertaining. Whichever way you play it is fun for any age group (as long as they can write). The only downside is the packaging which may look good at the store, but is impossibly flimsy for trying to keep the game in after you get it home. It is not designed to fit in your games closet which, if you're anything like me, has no space anyways. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Apples to Apples Freestyle This was my first time ever playing any apples to apples game. I played this game with my two kids who are the ages of 7 and 9 a boy and girl. They really did have fun playing this game. This version of apples to apples is different from the original. In this game you can make up your own answers so that's what makes it fun, because you can do whatever you want with it. The first person to win 4 for rounds wins the game. The game comes with 4 apple pads and free style cards that you can use to play the game a different way, it also includes 5 markers. The recommend age for this games is 12-15 but my kids were able to play after I explained the game to them and we played for awhile. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Fun Game I picked out this game without paying attention to the age suggestions. Neither of my children are 12 or older, but they both love to play. My youngest is just learning to read so we help her a bit and she comes up with entertaining answers just like everyone else. I can see where this would be a great game for older kids and adult get togethers, but we are having fun with it now too. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Family Game This is a great family game to play with your older children. My oldest two sons seemed to really enjoy themselves while playing this game. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Apples to Apples Freestyle I brought this to my daughter's slumber party and the kids were excited to play it. The box it came in was a bit hard to open and needs something different to keep the cards in at the end of the game. It was a super fun game for about 30 minutes, but the kids got tired of it and actually brought the original Apples to Apples game out instead. It was easier for them to lay down the cards that already had funny things on them, versus thinking up their own funny answer. We liked the game, just liked the original version better. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great game for all ages Apples to Apples Freestyle is a fun game for all ages. We have played with 4 people and we have played with 8 people ,ranging from 7 years old to 80 years old..if you can read and write, you can play this game and chances are you will enjoy it. I like that there are two different ways of playing the game. One thing I was not impressed with is the packaging,it is very flimsy and doesn't hold the cards well.I would definitely recommend this game to anyone. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Family Game Night! My boys and husband had so much fun with this game this past weekend! I love that it is not only fun but also educational. It was a perfect game for my kids who are 6 and 8 years old. I did not feel as though this game was too hard, or went over their head. However, my only complaint is that the storage box is somewhat flimsy and the markers dry out pretty easily. I would suggest using your own dry erase markers with this one. Otherwise, this is a great game for the family! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! We love the original Apples to Apples game so we were really excited to play this one. All of the adults had a blast coming up with words and even my children (8 and 9) joined in on the fun. There are no limits to how funny the game can get because you are choosing the words used. There are not a lot of pieces so it all stores perfectly in a small box or ziploc bag. I would definitely recommend this game for families looking to have a good laugh together. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious! We love Apples to Apples so we were excited to try this. This is a twist on the orginal game. The game offers a couple of different ways to play. You can play where one judge draws a card and everyone writes a word to go in the blank or one judge writes a word and the others try to find the card that "matches" it best. This game gets so funny. I will warn you that if you need to know your crowd. If you have young children and adults playing, you may want to set some rules about keeping it clean. With all adults, the innuendos are hilarious. We have laughed so hard playing this game. I imagine if you played with the exact same people over and over that you would eventually know what people will say, etc... but so far this game has been a blast. I love that we can play with our kids or with our friends and have a blast! I am exicted to have been able to try this game out as a part of the Play, Rate , Review program! Rated 3 out of 5 by from Apples to Apples Freestyle Game Night! Apples to Apples Freestyle is creative, eye brow raising, belly laughing fun fun fun! You'll really connect over a night of game play. If you've played Apples to Apples before then Freestyle adds an element of versatile creativity. If you've never played before you'll jump right into the creative free for all. Players of any reading age can join in the fun! Your group dynamic will dictate how clean fun or wildly crazy your answers will be. This game comes with plenty of phrase cards to make game night a weekly event without repetitive play! Now, for the criticism. Apples to Apples Freestyle does not include a storage case or erasers. The addition of both of these would take this game to an all inclusive package. As for quality of what is provided, it is adequate at best. The provided markers are not easily erased, so regular dry erase markers work better & make a more fluid game. The dry erase apple slates are simply adequate as well. You'll need back up writing implements soon. Overall, the instructions are easy to follow, the game is a blast, & you'll walk away wanting to play again! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bring your imagination! Our family loves the traditional Apples to Apples game and it's a regular part of our family game nights, so we thought we'd give Freestyle a shot. It took us a little time to get the swing of coming up with our own words to fill in the blanks on the phrase cards. But we also tried playing the other way so only the judge had to come up with a word or phrase. After 4 rounds we were laughing just like we normally do and there were some personal zingers on the blank apple cards, too. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Family Game Night My daughter decided to do Family Game Night on the Friday before Labor Day, Apples to Apples Freestyle was the first game that we played. I was chosen to be the judge and I liked that idea. Since I was playing with my children and their boyfriends ranging from ages 10-32 , everyone did a good job at disguising their handwriting , so I wouldn't recognize who wrote what. I got a wide variety of answers for each question, some of the answers were very amusing. We had great fun ! My only suggestion would be to add a timer or an hour glass to push people to come up with answers faster. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious creative game We really loved this game it was fun and very age appropriate for my daughter to play her friends or even us. I love how funny the cards can end up being and hearing what people chose for each question. It really is a creative game and is best played with more people. I love how you have to think and respond and see what others responded and sometimes people just crack up with the answers.Great you can erase and rewrite for hours of great play. So many different cards and two different games modes so there is lots of entertainment. This game is great for kids between 12-15 but also great for teens or even adult play. My husband and I and our four sons (our littlest is 3 so he had help) played this game and had so much fun we answered the questions with some serious answers , but on some we put silly off the way answers and we laughed and had such a great time I got laughing so bad on one I was crying lol. We had some niece and nephews come to visit so they and our boys played apples to apples freestyle and I watched and I had as much fun watching as I did playing they had such a great time. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Game night with the bigger kids! We have played the classic version of the apples to apples board style game may times so it was fun to change it up with a little different version. For our family we wanted to include the younger kids into the game so we set up older with younger teams because in this version of apples to apples you have to write on a board. We played two ways, the first time we had everyone write an answer on their board to the card question, then the judge selected the answer they liked best and that player wins the card, the first to get 4 cards wins the game. The second way was, we had 1 player (judge) write a word on the board then each player picked a card from there hand that they thought best fit the phrase written on the board by the judge player, the jidgw then turns the cards over and picks the answer they liked best and that person wins the selected card. We paired the little ones up with older players due to the writing/spelling on the board and a little easier to play. We had a lot of fun because the little ones were laughing the whole time at how silly some of the phrases would get and they loved being the judge player! This is a great game for the whole family even though the box reads ages 12+ , just need to pair up the younger ones with older players! Or just for the older players themselves, fun game! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny Apples With the right bunch, this is a really hilarious game. Our kids aren’t old enough (though that didn’t stop them from trying) to play, so we played with some friends. Basically you try to out funny each other by writing answers to questions. The person who gets picked by the ‘judge’ with the funniest answers, wins that round. The better you know each other, the more fun you’ll have as your answers will better hit each other’s senses of humor. What I don’t like is the packaging (which affected the over all ‘Quality’ rating I assigned). To me games should last a long time. This comes in a plastic box which isn’t at all suited for the cards and other game pieces once everything has been opened up. Please make the packaging better. I liked it a lot better than the original as it gave my children the chance to be creative and write their own personalised responses which made it all that much more fun! The cardboard apples are good quality and so are the dry erase markers I only wish it came with something to wipe away the writing after each play .Either way this game is a lot of fun and definitely a great buy I have a 9 year old who is addicted now! I got this game free but I would pay for it in a heartbeat !! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Imagination at work The Apples to Apples Freestyle is an interesting twist on the original. With a fill in the blank style game (think MadLibs) vs preset cards it allows for imaginations to run wild. I think this is a really solid game for the target age group 12+. It's also good for the younger crowd to practice their word power, spelling and penmanship. Our family played for the first time after dinner and it kept everyone laughing until bedtime. While I think all the kids enjoyed the game as a parent I have a few cons: The game does not come in a box or bag that it can be stored in. The white boards that you use to 'fill in the blank' are cute apple shapes, but are only on heavy cardboard and I can't imagine will stand up to regular use over time. There is no eraser so the kids use their hands to wipe away after each round so are covered in dry erase ink, despite mom providing a paper towel to erase. Overall it's a good game that is different each time you play so I think will get good use in our household. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Apples to Apples Game Contents include: 216 Fill-in-the-Blank Cards 5 Erasable Apple Boards 5 Wet-Erase pens Directions There are two ways to play the game. Both are fun: 1. Everybody writes 2. Play your best card (allows for up to 8 players) The game instructions are simple and easy to follow. Even if you've never played the original version of this game you'll have no problem picking up the concept quickly. That's when the crazy fun begins. Be prepared to laugh a lot when playing this game either way. You'll want to set some ground rules prior to playing in accordance to the age of the people playing. In other words if their are kids in the mix, which is most often the case, let everyone know what your expectations are before beginning if you want to keep things G-rated. It was very fun to play with both of my kids as well as my husband, I recommend that this game be played with 3-5 people it will make the game more fun! We really enjoyed this new version of Apples to Apples! I would recommend to friends and family! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from family fun Every Wednesday is games night so we play a lot of games. Appear to Apple's freestyle is our new favorite game. It was super easy to set up and took no time to get started. It says for ages 10 & up but my kids (8&6) played with no trouble. The phrases are super funny and kept us laughing all night. We still reference some of the crazy phrases. Also I love that it doesn't have all the little prices that can be lost. All you will need are the phrase cards. Very good game for tons of family fun. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our go to game for Friday Family game night! We are a large family of 10, every Friday we have game night and pizza. We love playing games as a family an believe that doing so helps us to know each others strengths and weaknesses. Its a good thing. We have some favorite games that we play alot. We own the original Apples to Apples and have been playing it alot lately!. When I got the chance to try the New Apples to Apple Freestyle I jumped at the opportunity and I'm so happy I did! The package is bright and inviting! I will say though that I think the packaging is lacking. Honestly I would like to have seen a reusable container to put the cards, markers and Apple Boards in. That would be easier to keep them neat and in order. I'm pretty particular about that because I hate to loose pieces and render the game useless. Once opened the rules were very simple! If you can write then you can play this game! We played with our teens, young teens and our 9 year old. The game is simple an you get to use your imagination. Each player gets an Apple Board (reusable, wipe with a dry cloth to use again), a writing marker and their imagination to play! I wish small wiping rags came with the game. A card is drawn by the first person to pick from the ideas given to him/her. That person reads the card, with a blank space. Each player then writes his or her answer on the Apple board, flips it over and hands them to the person who drew the card. That person then reads each answer filling in the blank space with the answers given. Then picks the answer he/she thinks fits best with the sentence given on the card drawn. The winner of the round gets the card that was drawn. Once they collect an amount of cards then they win! There is a second way to play too where one person writes a person place or thing on the Apple Board. Then everyone plays their best card, much like the original game. We play it differently, since we don't care who wins really. We play to have fun! We enjoy silly answers and creative answers! I think this game is a perfect for creative thinking as well! We love it and have a blast with it! I would recommend it as any family or party game! You will laugh until you cry! I was gifted this game to play with my family and write an honest review. All thoughts and reviews are my own! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great game for hours of fun with the family. My family loves this game! It takes the apples to apples game and brings it up a notch. There are two ways to play, one is eveyone writes the best fill in the blank answer and the other is one player writes and everyone picks the funniest sentence that matches. My kids really use their imagination with this game and come up with some of the funniest answers. It has been a game night favorite since we got it and I am sure it will continue to be for a long time to come! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Family time We love the game. My 13 was excited to try it when we got it, it was very easy to set up, instructions for play were easy to comprehend. Love that this game actually has two ways to play, this way it allows All members of the family to play even if they can't write yet. All the kids loved it they found it very amusing. We even played this with a group of adults was very entertaining. My only concern is package there is nothing to hold all the cards together and is very flimsy. Other then that great game. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Game My kids enjoyed this game quite a bit. I loved that the instructions were easy to understand and that game play was just as simple. It's a fun game that keeps their attention, yet doesn't drag on too long to where their attention starts turning to other things because the game is taking too long to end. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our new favorite family game My 7, 9, 10 and 11 year old children and I had so much fun playing this game! The little boards are fun to write on and it was fun to see what answers everyone came up with. We laughed so much seeing each other's answers and I like that there are two ways to play this game. The game is easy to understand/explain and this was great family fun and bonding time. It comes with lots of cards and it's nice that the dry erase pens are included. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome fun My family had a blast with this game as soon as we got it today. My kids had a blast and played along well. The concept is great. And we couldn't stop laughing from the funny responses. The game has 2 different versions of play and both were great. And I love the idea of 2 ways to play so the game never will get boring. It was fun guessing who made each word as we tried to disguise our handwriting. I would highly recommend this game for anyone who has a family who likes to laugh and is a new must have for game nights in my home. And the dry erase cards clean off well and assure that we can play over and over . and my nephew who is 7 played and had a blast too [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Game My family really enjoyed playing this game. We've played the original Apples to Apples and there would always be a time when we wanted to add our own ideas to the cards and now we can! It was always interesting to see what each person was going to put down. We played both versions and the version where everyone writes their own answers was the most fun for us, we have some pretty comical people in our family so you never knew what they were going to put down. The cards erased well with paper towels, an eraser on the the marker would be really great for the game though. The rules are easy to understand and everyone picked up on the concept pretty quick. The box isn't the best for storing but I do like being able to see the actual size of the cards and the markers. It's overall a really great and fun game, I will be recommending it to family and friends. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fun family game The object of the game is to write something funny in the blank to make players laugh. The game says ages 12 and up but my 10 year old enjoyed it more then my 15 year old. The game has two ways to play we liked the everybody writes one the best In this version you choose a person to be a judge and turns over the top card from the fill in blank deck reads it then places it face up on the table then other players write on one of the wipeable apples anything they want then the judge reads each one and picks a winner. The cards read things like I would never put ___ in my front yard or its bad luck to wear ___ to a wedding. I really wish the game came with more wipeable apples and pens so more people could play but we just used pen and paper. Overall the game is entertaining for family game night. My 5 year old also joined In we just read her the cards and wrote her answer. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great twist on the original game. Our family loves to play the original version of this game so when I go the opportunity to receive this version of Apples to Apples in exchange for a honest review I was excited. This game is a lot of fun and can be played by different age groups, just make sure that you don't let it get to dirty if younger children are playing. We really enjoyed playing the game and had a lot of laughs. I would recommend having a damp paper towel handy to wipe off the cards with. I can't wait to play this with a group of adults. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute idea..... I got this for my older children and their friends but my younger ones were more interested in it. The game is a really fun idea and super silly for the younger ones. The only problem is my younger kids don't spell good yet and you need to secretly write down your words. I am sure as we play it more the younger kids will be able to play and they thought it was super fun and super silly. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun family game night This made for a fun family game night! It allows creativity, as well as practicing reading, spelling, and handwriting for kids as well. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Fun Game This it the best game we have ever ever played. We have actually already played it twice since yesterday that we got it. I started playing with the kids, it was very easy for them to understand how it is played. Its all about creativity to fill in the blank of a sentence. Be ready this can bring lots of laughter. Last night we adults played it and were so entertained by this game that the only Con we found was that time goes by faster when having a great time playing Apples to Apples freestyle!
