Rated 3 out of 5 by from fun a fun set for the kids to play, however the markers arent a great idea. we dont use the paper liners as they end up ripping. the candles are a bit flimsy. the kids seem to enjoy customizing the cupcakes and placing a candle to make wishes. Melissa and Doug usually doesnt disappoint but it seems the parents dont enjoy this set as much as the kids do

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Product - Poor Markers We gave this to our 2 year old for Christmas. She loves it and so does our 4 year old boy and 6 year old girl. it is a great toy aside from the frosting markers. The markers stain their hands - it does not come clean in the sink or bath (takes a day). We had to toss the markers and buy our own washable dry erase markers. They are fun but don't look like frosting. If you buy this, buy your own markers and toss the fun ones before you kids see them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Markers are a bad idea! I got this for my 3 year old who loves to pretend she is baking cakes and such. I let her play with the markers by herself not knowing that they would not wash off skin! Needless to say her hands were green for days!! Not happy with the markers and lack of warning on the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! My three year old daughter received this as a gift from her Aunt. All three of my children ages 5, 3 and 19 Months have been playing with the cupcakes for HOURS. The only thing I have noticed is that their hands are green and blue from the markers. I am sure it will wash off eventually and it is a small price to pay for them being entertained for so long!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fun but the markers aren't washable Great for recreating birthdays but only the tops can be easily cleaned, the cupcakes can't be. Hard to get off hands and clothes. Since the markers are shaped like frosting you lose the charm if you substitue washable markers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed! Thought this would be a great gift for our granddaughter but first out of the box has ruined new clothes with markers. Too bad they are not washable. Wish I could return this to the store but packaging has been thrown away! Would not recommend this for young children!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So cute but markers do NOT wash out! My daughter got this product for her 3rd birthday last night and absolutely loved it however after playing with it all day long the markers will not wash off of her hands. My 5 year old also had the same problem. When I rinsed off the tops for her to play again & try a new design my hands were covered with marker that still will not wash off, while whiping off some of the tops a faint residue of marker remained on...some marker did get on their clothes & I am concerned about it washing off. I did have to take them away & she still will play with it but was really sad she could no longer draw on the tops!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ink everywhere! We LOVE M&D products, and have MANY of the toys. This was a gift for one of my 3 girls & all three LOVE playing with it. (Ages 2 - 5). However, they pretend to eat the cupcakes & get the ink ALL over their mouths, hands, clothes etc. I'm not worried about toxic products ... it's just a huge mess. I have to hide the pens, which as far as my girls are concerned takes away most of the fun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A birthday any day! We bought this for our 2-yr-old girl and she and the 4-yr-old neighbor girls love it! It is a good source of fun in our house. Putting on the little oven mitt and pretending to work with 'hot' items is great practice for little ones, but coloring on the frosting is definitely the toy's biggest 'draw'! We often just use washable markers instead of the cute frosting markers, since the colors seem to come off more easily. I would like to see the frosting lengthened a bit to allow more room to color. Adding a second oven mitt would be nice, since the cupcakes are heavy and holding a full muffin tin with one hand is hard for them. Making the box with a lid would be helpful for keeping pieces together and could easily double as an oven. The biggest disappointment for me was that the cupcakes were just brown for chocolate and yellow for vanilla. The cupcake blocks could easily be two pieces (top and bottom) to allow cutting like most Melissa & Doug food, and rather than waste paper on cupcake holders, they could be painted in fun cupcake holder styles. This would let children 'cut'and switch around the pieces, and might even deter them from coloring on the wood where marker doesn't come off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! My 3 children love these cupcakes! i thought my daughters would like it best, but my son really enjoys this as well! i love knowing it will last forever since its made of wood! the kids have tons of hours of fun with these. only suggestion would be that the flame would be able to flap down when you blow on them. that would be super cute!! Love it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Kids all ages love these! I bought this set for my 4 yr old for Christmas. He absolutely loves it. In fact all 5 of my children(ages 12, 10, 8, 4 & 2) all play with this set! As I was typing this my 4 yr old carried them in and was making cupcakes. My only real complaints are I wish the cupcake holders were actually sturdier, like plastic or wood because they get destroyed. We have recently been having issues with the dry erase not erasing off of some of the tops also. And one of our candles broke. But I think it was well worth it and probably one of my son's favorite presents. His older sisters play with him and he bakes the cupcakes in his little brother's oven. It is really a fun set despite the few issues

Very well made!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great cupcake set but markers need to go My daughter absolutely LOVES to play with this set -- she pretends it's someone's birthday... Sings "happy birthday", serves everyone, and "blows out" the candles. It really is adorable. The only issue I have (and this is a big one) is why on earth Melissa & Doug (normally such a child-oriented company) would use non-washable markers for the decorative icing for a toddler toy! If the icing goes anywhere other than the plastic toppers (i.e, on the wooden cupcake or a child's clothing), it causes a permanent stain. I actually just threw the icing markers away tonight because I was so upset that my daughter's shirt (worn today for the first time) is ruined (I tried EVERYTHING to clean the marker & it just will not come out). It's really a shame because the cupcake set without the markers is wonderful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dress for the Party I love Melissa & Doug toys and this is a terrific gift. Our Granddaughter has so enjoyed this cupcake set as have we. The only problem we had was our granddaughter dotted her new dress with the markers and I've tried many methods and just can't get it out. Any suggestions? We wrongfully assumed that the markers would be washable being that it is for a child. As soon as she touched her dress we looked for warnings or statements of how to remove but found nothing. We had no problem wiping off the icing or wooden cupcakes. It is still a wonderful toy but her dress is ruined. :(

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the cupcakes but dry erase stains I am a huge Melissa & Doug fan! This set has continued to spark my daughters imagination long after other toys sunk to the bottom of the toy chest. My only complaint is that the dry erase markers stain clothing. The first time she used the set she had some marker stain on her clothes and it has never come out...if that could be changed the toy would be continuous magic!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Granddaughter loves this I was able to use baby wipes to clean the dry erase off the cupcake tops. I found that they also worked to take the markers off the wooden cupcakes. Spray window cleaner also works. My Granddaughter loves this and we play all the time, it was a birthday gift. She likes all her M&D toys. She is 3 years old. Hope to get replacement markers for this also.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Washable! Markers Are NOT Washable!!! Fun play set but not practical for children to play with. My 4 year old got this as an Easter gift and got marker all over her Easter dress. Will not come out with anything. Very disappointing for a Melissa and Doug toy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't come off of clothes!!! While my 3 year old does like the cupcake toy, I'm unable to wash the marker "icing" off her clothes. After pre-treating, stain treating, soaking and washing - the color hasn't come out a bit. I'm glad it's non-toxic...now it won't harm any of the animals that go through my trash.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Toy......So Glad I Found It!! This is truly a great toy. The wooden cupcakes and candles are very durable and it makes for great pretend play. Santa brought this for our 2 year old daughter for Christmas and she loves this. She loves birthdays and to "cook" for us and help in the kitchen so this was really perfect for her. The only down side is that yes, the markers are a little difficult to wipe off the tops and the wood especially if you don't wipe it off immediately (who has time to worry about that) but Mr. Clean magic erasers work wonders and take it off in a snap. Thank you Melissa and Doug!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Icing Markers? The markers are not what is shown on the box or on any site. We got ours yesterday and opened it up today. The "Hot Pink" was barely visible as even a light pink as was the blue. The only color that had color was green. Did call customer service and they were not sure if this was supposed to be how they marked. Will return at store if markers do not work. All other M&D stuff I have never had issue with, so one can only hope it was just a fluke.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from do not use the "frosting markers"! BUYER BEWARE. "Frosting" markers are permament and indelible. They cannot be removed from cloth, and I suspect, they would also stain walls, leather, or any light-colored Surface. we have 3 ruined outfits, and could have been much worse if we did not do laundry soon after using this. If you must buy this, make sure to get Crayola washable markers before you give it your child, and toss the "frosting" immediately. Otherwise, you'll be replacing clothing, bedding, sofas, chairs, you get the idea. Be careful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Gift! My daughter got this as a Christmas gift and she absolutely LOVES it. We have played with it every day since Christmas. She loves to decorate the cupcakes and sing Happy Birthday to everyone. The only disappointing feature is that the marker does not easily wash out of clothing. Marker got on a pair of light pink pants and didnt wash out. I had to pretreat 2x and wash 2x. So my only suggestion is pretreat before you wash any clothing that the marker gets on, so you'll be sure not to ruin lots of clothes. Otherwise this is an AWESOME toy. We love Melissa & Doug!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great creative toy, but markers stain My three year old daughter received this for Christmas and it was a favorite right out of the box. However, she was wearing brand new Christmas clothing and colored 2 big dots on the front with the markers(icing). I tried all my stain removal tricks (oxyclean, Tide, etc) and it didn't touch it. Very disappointing that a child's product would have this much potential for stain!! Wear play clothes or an apron!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Toy- TERRIBLE Markers! I bought this for my youngest daughter for Christmas. She loves it. MY complaint, though, is that the markers do NOT come out of clothing -- she ruined the clothes she was wearing the day she got this. I am disappointed that M&D would put out a set without washable dry erase markers. These markers are for children, not the office white board.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Item and Easy to Clean! My kids love this cupcake set! It is one of their favorite toys. I do use Mr. Clean eraser pads to clean off the tops and on the cupcake bottoms, it works perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful gift for grandchildren! Absolutely love this gift given to my grandson for his birthday! He and his little friends have so much fun decorating and blowing the candles out. Only problem which became a major one was the blue marker traveled to the bedroom and little hands used it to color ALL over my brand new white furniture and it will not come off! Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Otherwise, this is a wonderful toy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bake and Decorate cupcake set I purchased this set for our grand-daughter who just turned three. She loves to play with the set, however, I was VERY disappointed in the three colored (pink, blue and green) tubes of "cupcake icing". While decorating the "icing" toppers, she accidently rubbed the open tube on her new shirt. The stains would not come out of the shirt and it was ruined. I believe a substance for the use of three year olds, should either have a warning that the dye is permenant, or have a dye that is washable. Other than this problem, the set is great, and I am currently looking for a marker that will not ruin her clothes. Until then, we have removed the "icing" from her set. I would recommend this toy to anyone but with reservation.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good only if you use your own markers! I don't understand why a maker of kids products would make something that does not wash (markers)! My daughter accidently got the blue marker on her nice shirt and it won't come off. I am very upset and disappointed that she ruined a shirt that cost more than the product! What a shame!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Needs washable markers My three-year old daughter enjoys playing with this toy but has gotten marker on her clothes a couple of times and nothing gets it out, not even the standard tricks for cleaning dry erase marker stains. After yet another ruined shirt, the cupcake set is going in the garbage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Company Stands Behind Fun Toy Like the other parents who have commented, my three-year-old daughter really enjoys this toy and often takes it out and plays with it on her own--six weeks after receiving it as a gift for her birthday. I, too, have been having trouble with the dry-erase "icing" markers for decorating the cupcakes: It was so hard to wipe my daughter's old designs off the plastic frosting that she started using the underside of the frosting caps to create new designs. Finally I called customer service: They recommended using a DAMP cloth to wipe of the "dry-erase" markers. I felt like a bozo for not thinking of it myself, but, otherwise, it was a great customer service experience. (I still can't get the dry-erase-marker marks off the wooden cupcakes, but the wooden cupcakes are not intended for use with the markers.) I, too, think this is a great toy for both boys and girls.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stains Clothing We love Melissa and Doug items. We currently have the birthday cake, ice cream set, sandwich set, cookie set, and cupcake set. We have never had a problem with any of their items, until the cupcake set. The dry erase makers seem hard to get off if they sit for a while (couple of hours)on the icing and if your child touches their clothing with the marker, you can hang it up. My daughter got the blue marker on her shirt yesterday. Within in 5 minutes of getting the ink on her shirt, I had treated the shirt and got it in the wash. When I got the shirt out, the stain was lighter, but was still very visible. I would recommend, but I would take the dry erase markers away and let them use the crayola washable dry erase crayons on the cupcakes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Markers do not come out of clothing! My 3-year old daughter got this as a gift for her birthday. It is a great toy and both she and my 6-year old son love to play with it BUT the "icing" markers do not come out of clothing. My daughter has ruined two brand new shirts because she got the marker on them. I have tried everything I can think of, but the marker will not come out. It's very frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from cupcakes I played for hours with a 3 year old as we decorated the cupcakes. He made special ones for the family. It was a great creative exercise for him as he told stories how he made them. Talked about the "filling" the different flavors and how he decorated each one special for his guests. Between all of us he had 3 generations engaged in interactive play. I love that the toys were wooden. Brought me back to my childhood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My daughter LOVES this toy!!! I bought these cupcakes for my 2 year old daughter from an ice cream/book store in town. She absolutely loves it! She plays with them all the time and never seems to get bored with it! She enjoys having friends over as well, and sings happy birthday! I just use a baby wipe and the marker comes off, even on the wooden part! She even drew all over her arms with the markers and they were also very easily cleaned with a baby wipe! I will buy this toy for our friends childrens for birthdays and I will buy other toys like this for my daughter! Thanks from a happy mommy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Marker doesn't come out of clothes This product is great for imaginative and creative play. My 3 yr old with cerebral palsy loves these toys. The velcro and markers challenges her hands. Only downside, the markers stain and don't come out. I washed her pants immedietely after playtime, twice (once with stain releaser) and it still didn't come out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Toy! I love these cupcakes. I got them for my 3 year old daughter, and she loves to play with them. The only reason I didnt give it all stars is that I think they should have made the entire cupcake dry erase material, not just the icing part. The cupcakes are wooden, which is what I normally like, but for this toy it gets annoying because if the marker gets on the wood, it's really hard to get off, if you can at all. All in all, though it's a great toy and great for imaginative play, goes well in my daughter's kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT present for little kids! My daughters received this as a gift from their grandparents and they LOVE it. They are 2 and 4 years old and play with it constantly. Their older siblings (6 and 9) even enjoy playing it with them. This toy gets so much use, I need to find replacement "icing." I also might add that my kids get tired of toys so quickly and that is a source of frustration for me. But they have not gotten tired of this toy, which is an extra PLUS for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from such a great idea! we bought this item for my niece for her 6th birthday. she loves artsy stuff, and she loves throwing parties. it seemed like a good mix. everyone thought they were so neat, and asked where we had got them. my niece loves them and played with them right away, more than any of the other gifts she received!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Cupcakes ever My daughter's babysitter bought this for her for Christmas and we play with it every day. She's two and a half and is always making new designs on the icing, mixing and matching the icing colors with the candle colors. I will definitely look for the Melissa and Doug label the next time I'm buying for her or other children.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Toy! My daughter got this as a gift for her second birthday. It's SO much fun. Following all the birthday celebration she loves to put the cupcakes together with the candle and then sing happy birthday to anyone who is around. This toy has been HUGE hit in our house, and I think would be fun for both boys and girls.
