Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor qualuty I have always been pleased with Melissa and Doug toys, so I didn't think twice about buying this. Unfortunately in day one I have already had two issues. 1) the assembly instructions were wrong. And I don't mean I couldn't figure them out. I means the booklet was missing page 3, but I had two copies of pages 2 and 7.f 2) when I had this problem with the instructions, I thought no worries I'd just download the corrected version I assumed they would have on their website. I couldn't find any. 3) the cuts and holes looked like they were made with dull bits/blades. They were so jagged that I had to spend some time on them with sandpaper before I would let my kids near it. Disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Art for the whole family! My 4 year granddaughter was so excited with this easel. At preschool this is her favorite thing to do. Her 2 year old sister is excited to paint to. Their daddy, my son, has an art project and he is using it too. Everybody is loving the easel!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from impossible to assemble Long screws are not long enough. Both trays are too short to fit. Paper roll dowel too short. Pre-assembled screws on hinges loose and pop out. We can't assemble it as instructed with pieces supplied.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from By far the worst easel I have ever used for children This easel came with stripped screws, and was not made properly to have all of the parts lined up correctly., making it impossible to be put together correctly. It is very poorly and cheaply designed and does not work well in a childcare center. We have a few in the center and they have been easily destroyed and taken apart by the children. I will not be purchasing any more Melissa and Doug easels.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Chalkboard not good Chalkboard does not work well with chalk (can't get it clean) and is only magnetic with the magnets that come with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Hunt Is Over!!! Love, love, love, this easel. Multiple activities all in one. Perfect portable organized art center. Folded foot print with trays on is 14 inches with trays removed 6 inches. Trays continue to hold chalk/dry erase markers/paint cups with lids on even in the folded position. Perks: Draw or paint for 2. Comes with paper holder. Clips hold paper in place. And bar to pin paper in place & tear it off too. Chalk board. Dry Erase Board. Trays on both sides permit 1 or 2 to paint without fights over My Red Paint Cup/Brush. Clips to hold paper in place while painting/coloring. Cons/But would happen with any easel: Not for the child who is hard on toys. If they put too much pressure on the trays (paint holder/chalk holder), they will break off. The pro is that you can call and order a replacement tray. We have had paint/creative play dates and initially our friends thought I was crazy until they saw how well it worked. We could actually talk for 10 minutes at a time instead of chasing our 2 year olds in different directions. Yes!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still A Winner! Purchased this easel last XMAS, and my 4.5 yr old STILL enjoys painting "masterpieces" on this easel. The bottled paint stays wet while stored, although once squeezed into a cup it will dry if not covered up after a day. But, one only needs less than an 1/8 cup of paint in their accessory cups with which to paint and it reduces paint waste. And, buy some extra paint, cups, and paper, too. The paint brush hairs could be of higher quality, but they work good enough. It was really easy to put together, too. It's a good idea to cover your floors. You know Moms, our kiddos are going to drop as much paint on the floor as they will on the paper. LOL! Be prepared.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Product I bought this last year for my 5 year old for Christmas and she has used it almost every day since! She loves to paint and draw and this is the best product with the dry erase board and paint paper and then chalkboard on the other side...I admit the chalkboard doesn't get much use plenty use of the dry erase board. I have bought another roll of paper and need a another set of paints. All in all this is a well built, durable product that will last for a very long time and best of all it was EASY TO ASSEMBLE!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Chalkboard side is not easy to draw on.. The chalkboard is nothing more than hard plastic. Unless you are pressing really hard, nothing shows up and the chalk either breaks or turns to chalk dust. Was hoping for a real chalkboard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my 2 year old We purchased this for our 2 year old. We selected this one because a friend highly recommended it. Being a stay at home mom I was looking for something to entertain my 2 year old. She loves it, I love it. The adjustable height is key. Also, the chalk board was very easy to prep. My friend thought it would take several go overs with the chalk but two times did the trick. Easy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great product by Melissa & Doug Love this easel. My 5-year-old daughter loves to play school and this is perfect for her to teach her students (dollies), plus gives her extra practice writing letters, numbers, words, etc. Once again another great product by Melissa & Doug!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love this easel my kids received this easel when my daughter was two and my son was 4 months. they are now 4 and 2 and have gotten constant use out of this. they have just started using it for painting and they have a blast. this is a great easel that is easy to use, easy to adjust, and holds up. I just moved it up to the next height level for my daughter. it's so great that it grows with them. a very good investment.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what I expected from M&D I keep picking up screws from the floor that have fallen off from various spots on the easel. I thought maybe my 2 yr old was unscrewing them so I put the easel where I could see her playing with it. They just randomly fall off when the easel is moved. The caps that are supposed to secure the screws to the easel do not fit the screws well. If this wasn't a gift I woud return this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much better than I thought I like the fact my 1 year old and 4 year old can both use it. The easel does not take up much space. There is a place for chalk, paint cups, brushes, the organization is great. It was easy to put together, the only downside is my kids can easily take it apart. Overall, I would recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Product We have had this easel for about a year and a half now, it is still in the same fantastic shape it was when we got it. My son LOVES it! There is no end to the creative things he can do with it, and it provides hours of activity for him.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best purchases I've ever made I bought this about 8 years ago and it's still in great shape. It is definitely one of the best purchases I've ever made. My kids love it. My daughter has recently been learning to write her name on both sides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time tested We have had this easel for 4 plus years. It has always been in our play area and has been used so much over the years. For the designed crafting, to a nice hide out, to a fancy school set up currently. It is sturdy and I really like the adjustable feature and the clips!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best purchase! We have used this almost daily for 3 years. The kids use it for drawing and painting, I teach the kids phonics and sight words on the chalkboard, and my hubby uses it to teach memory work. Its like a member of our family! We had other easels in the past, but this is by far the best one for active kids.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Buy for this Easel. Great gift to give any child over the age of three that grows with them. If you have a creative child its a great gift. We gave it to my granddaughter who was four at the time she is now five. She loves it as much as she did the day she recieved it from us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Takes a beating, keeps going. My godchild's family has one of these, and I liked it so much that I got one for my niece as well. I take care of her 5 days a week, and we use it every day she's here. When her cousins come to visit, it's a centerpiece of activity for 3 young children, and it stands up to the beating. I couldn't be happier with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Scratched the first day! My 2 year old son got this for Christmas and he loves it. However, the day after Christmas, I yelled at him for using a pen that was nearby on the chalkboard because it was all scratched up. After a few minutes of drawing, I noticed that something I had drawn (with name brand chalk) was also scratched into it. Yes, CHALK SCRATCHES THE CHALKBOARD! My son doesn't seem to mind and still loves to color on it, but it drives me nuts that it's covered in scratches already.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Blackboard surface could be better Great product except for 3 things: 1 - divided tray is not as useful as one big tray -- two plain big trays would have been better 2 - leg heights are uneven, so it wobbles a bit 3 - chalkboard surface is too smooth, does not "grab" the chalk easily -- frustrating for little ones

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome!! My four-year-old daughter LOVES this thing. Since she got it for Christmas, she's spent literally hours a day painting pictures on the one side and practicing her letters on the chalkboard. It has really helped get her into working on writing letters and numbers as well as learning how to make new colors with the paint!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this art easel I like that the supply kit is sold separately. It keeps the price affordable so I can purchase less expensive supplies. I just wish the paper roll was included as it is hard to find. My 2 children, 9 and 7 love it and so does my 2 year old granddaughter when she comes over to visit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better for older children Overall I like this easel. We purchased this as a gift for our son on his third birthday and he loved it (and so did his friends!) We controlled access to the paint and dry erase markers, but we left the chalk out all the time and it was constantly in use. My only complaint about this toy is the hardware is extremely easy for little ones to un-screw! My 18 month old was constantly taking bits of the easel apart and I was worried it would collapse on one of the kids while they were playing! We tried reversing the hardware so the colorful bolts weren't as noticeable or enticing, but it didn't make a difference. In the end a lot of the hardware was lost. This indicated to us that it's a toy better suited to slightly older children :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love This Easel- *Supplies Not Included* I bought this during Black Friday at a local bookstore for my son. He is 1 1/2 right now (which is a little young per recommended age) but he absolutely loves it! We are only playing with the chalk side right now, as I really don't want him drawing with markers or paints yet. Thinking by the time my next baby is old enough for the chalk, we can get our first born to play with the paints & markers side so they can play at the same time. I love that there are different settings for different children of different heights. I really wish the easel came with a roll of paper & non-toxic / washable art supplies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent choice, especially for two. I have two toddlers close in age, one who is special needs. They can both do artwork together because this easel has two sides. Adjustable height is a big plus, as well as trays. Functional and easy to transport. Melissa and Doug can do no wrong in my eyes!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lovely, but no spare parts available! Screw caps are bright and attractive, so children play with these and lose them - not replaceable!! This is a big negative aspect as with up to three screws missing, the easel is not safe. Used for age groups between 2 and 5 years. Nicely adjustable, although time-consuming to assemble. Handy trays for chalk/paint/eraser/crayon storage Bigger than average

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super easel; Art supplies not included! I researched as many easels as I could find before finally buying this one and we are all very pleased with it! I would rate it a 4.5! Pluses: Product assembles easily with the provided allen wrench; no additional tools necessary. It is a sturdy, higher quality product and it has 3 height adjustments to grow with your child(ren). The trays are strong and large enough to hold ample supplies. It can easily be folded for storage by loosening the side bars and lifting them off their respective bolts. The paper roll holder and child-safe cutter is inspired! I believe this product was designed with great care and safety in mind, as I don't believe it would tip over easily. Additionally, there are no raised or exposed screws or bolts. (They are either deeply seated into the wood, or covered with a colorful, child-safe cover.) On the downside: There are no accessories or art supplies provided with this easel; you will need to purchase a separate Melissa & Doug accessory set or add your own components of paint cups, paints, brushes, paper, paper roll(s), chalk, dry erase markers, erasers, etc. It is well worth the investment, though. My 3 1/2 year old granddaughter uses this easel multiple times daily...always with great enthusiasm! What a wonderful product to encourage a child's creativity and self-expression! I highly recommend it : ) Note to "Lu"...our easel is most used in our living room, too! I believe children should been seen and heard!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent but This was a gift from my grandchildren. I am pleased to say that it has met all my expectations except for one concern. Since this easel will be placed on a wooden floor, it might be a useful item to have some type of protection included for the bottom of the legs. The last thing I would want to happen is to have my daughter's lovely floors scratched up especially since young children have a tendency to move things from one spot to another. Other than that problem, I am sure they will get a great deal of enjoyment from this gift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWSOME! Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1 year and counting This is an amazing easel for a young child. We bought this for our daughter (3 yrs. old-- she is now 4)last Christmas and we keep it up in our living room. It always has paint ready and available for her to use. (I am big on having creative outlets). I am not kidding when I say that she has used this gift EVERY DAY since she got it. It has been the most used Christmas gift that I have seen in my life. Other brands cost twice as much and generally the only difference is that some of them would probably fit into a living room decor a little nicer than this (keep in mind--this is for a child NOT an adult). She loves this and for me, that is what matters. My living room looks lovely with all the wonderful artwork.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than expected I was amazed as soon as I opened the box. It is much better quality than anything else I have purchased, even the chalk and paint trays are large and will keep their shape. My husband said it is a very clean design. I love the wood, so nicely finished, the boards both look to be very good quality, nice arrangement for paper roll. Nice that it folds up so easily, and adjust to three heights. This is for my 5-year old granddaughter who says she is going to be an artist, so this should definitely help her on her way :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality I love this wooden easel! It can handle rough play from two little boys, I have learned. My only issue is that I don't know where to go to get replacement clips and screws. My boys love to try and take it apart and loose some of the parts.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not as safe as you would think My 5 year old son was having a grand time drawing with the write on wipe off board, I was helping him erase his work and my thumb rubbed the wood frame. From that I receive several large splinters in my thumb and under the nail bed which had to be surgicaly removed. I am glad it was me and not my son! The wood along the top of the easel is rough and clearly splintering is a risk. With this safety hazard corrected this could be a safe toy. We got rid of ours.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Kid Magnet My kids (ages 4, 3, and 2) love their easel and play with it frequently. The problem is that they also play with the parts they're not supposed to touch (attractive screws holding easel together). It comes apart too easily (a benefit for adult disassembly but not for children). We are currently looking for replacement parts to put the easel back together again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor whiteboard At first i loved this product, but then I came home with some new dry erase markers for my daughter to use on the whiteboard. We started by spelling her name, and ended there too as her name would only come off with a wet papertowel with a light version of her name remaining. I thought maybe the dry erase markers were to blame at first (Crayola) but then tried two other whiteboards and had no problem. Dissapointing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like this product I absolutely love the easel,my 3 years old loves it too, the only thing I don't like is that she can easily remove the screws, and its difficult to close.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from My daughter loves it, but... My daughter got this for her birthday on 6/27/09. She loves it. I on the other hand wish that the wood was coated in some kind of finish so it cleaned up easier. My mom got her this complete with the art set and while the paint wipes easily off non pourous surfaces, it sticks to the wood badly. She has had it for 2 days and it already looks awful. [...] Aside from the wood being unfinished I love it. The paper tears off nice and neatly making it easy to move on to the next project. Even my 1 year old was trying to get in on the act. It will be used well over the next few years, but I can only imagine what it will look like by the time my kids are done with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hours of Fun I agree that my son is facinated with the screws but he plays with it for hours. The only complaint I have it the chalk mess it leaves behind but I do not think that is something that can be fixed. If my sone uses chalk I usually have him play with it outside. It is very durable and is defininatly worth the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Too Attractive I think this easle was a great idea. My two kids who were 2 and 3yrs. old ganged up on it and took it all apart constantly because of the bright colors of the screws. Maybe they were just too yound and had each other in crime, but we haven't gotten good use of it because it's always disassembled. Next year maybe. But I do think it's great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product! My 3 1/2 year old daughter loves her easel! She goes back and forth between the blackboard, the whiteboard, and painting. It took my husband and I about 10 minutes to put it together, it was very simple! My only complaint is that I wished it was a little easier to fold. You have to take the paper roll off to fold it, I would rather be able to just fold it with the paper on so I could just set it back up really quick. But I highly recommend this easel!
