Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cute but poorly made Bought one for my daughter because i remembered loving my handed down version as a kid. Hers is definitely NOT as durable and requires batteries, which was a bummer. Firat time she really got the hang of playing with it and the wind up knob made the same popling sound as others have described, and no longer winds up. So basically, I have a $40 turntable shaped bookend because it doesn't play music anymore. Not happy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken We just got this this as a gift and within five minutes of normal kid play (aka turning the windup knob and moving the ”needle” arm back and forth to change the record) it was no longer spinning / playing music. Has anyone figured out how to repair?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap Copy We all remember the original. This is just a cheap copy. Got one for my grandchildren to play with at my house. It is nothing like the original my children had in the 1970s. Poorly made, difficult to set records on the turntable. Requires batteries, needs to be cranked, tone arm is hard to maneuver. On/off switch doesn't work well. The windup spring broke after a month. Doesn't deserve the Fischer Price name. Its a waste of money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery hungry Received as a gift for our four year old. She loves it but it requires a lot of batteries. I wanted it for her as I really wanted it when I was a kid. It can carry the records in the player.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this! I had one when I was growing up and loved it, so was so happy when I saw this new version! my kids love walking around with this and listening to music

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not worth it I got this for my daycare kids and this toy didn't last very long, very disappointed. #plumreview

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed I bought this for my son as I had one just like it when I was a kid. However, I'm disappointed. Someone else pointed this out too, but this version is electronic and needs batteries. The head is hard to move off the record, my son (now 18-months old) can't do it himself without help. I wish I had brought it back while I still had the chance.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Music box The quality of this is a bit disappointing...but it's great when it works! #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! I bought this for my kids, and while it is not exactly like the one I had when I was small, it still looks the same, and it gets a lot of use in my house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it The kids and I love this record player. It has the "vintage look" that makes it cool. Comes with a good number of records that play a different melody depending on the side you put it on. Easy to crank and easy to use. Very cool !

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A bit disappointed I was so excited to get this for my son but disappointed. Its electronic, it needs batteries...I should have read the reviews before hand. So despite that it takes batteries it needs winding up and its a HARD to wind the little dial for a child. I have a hard time winding it up myself! Its fun for a kid in that you pick the record and hear a song like a recond player but I wish it was like the original and not electronic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun for young and old. A bit pricey and it is a replica not the vintage player. But the kids still enjoy this quite a bit. Found it can be finicky but it is also pretty durable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Love it BUT When we opened the box and the record player there was only one record included. How can we get the other 4? This was a Christmas present from someone who lives out of town.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the same as the classic. Purchased for my grandson as it was a favorite of mine as a child. It is however not at all the same, while it looks similar...it is not as durable and I am sure the little lid for the record storage will soon break off. It is now battery operated and has a more electronic sound. Not the "plinking" of the original when the needles ran over the "bumps". There are no longer bumps :( . I do however think my grandson will still enjoy it , if you are wanting to purchase it for nostalgic reasons I would think you will be disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it - A timeless classic Love this toy - enjoyed it as a child, now my own children do too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from kids love it. A great throw back, not wind up like the original but battery operated. Still the songs are just as great and can't beat the look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blast from the past! We bought this as a shower gift for a friend that used to be a DJ! His newborn daughter finds the sweet songs soothing and we can't wait until she's old enough to play with it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Throwback toy. A great throwback to the original, however, not built the same or as well as they used to be. Still fun for little kids though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic. What a great toy. I had one as a child. Loved playing with it all day with my little brother. Love it!!!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old School Love these toys. Brings back great memories! Nothing like an old fashioned toy your child can play and learn with.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great piece of nostalgia! I had one of these several decades ago. I think it was sold at a garage sale in the mid 80's for $1! If I'm not mistaken, it plays the same tunes as it did 40+ years ago. It's a great, basic but fun toy for children to actually play with, rather than plunking them down in front of a video.
Date published: 2017-11-13
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay My daughter likes this toy but certainly doesn't love it as much as we did when we were children.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic toy Fascinate to see how people used to play music
Date published: 2017-09-29
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A true original! I have the original of this one, and what's even more funny, we have an old lp player we put in the basement where we play. So this teaches the kids how music is actually played - without them ruining the LP! It truly is the MOST durable toy!!!! And teaches kids how to function buttons, put something right...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from There's A Reason It's Been Around For So Long! This is the perfect toy! My oldest loves playing and dancing to the music, my youngest loves taking the records in and out. It's such a lovely toy, perfect for MANY ages!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WINDING MECHANISM BROKE IN LESS THAN TWO MONTHS. Complete piece of junk. The winding mechanism made a loud popping sound and the turntable stopped turning less than two months into owning it. It is unacceptable to me that a children's toy would be made this poorly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not what it used to be Now with all the new technologies not as great as before. My kids love the idea of having their favorite nursary rhims but at the same time when they ask me where are the records now I explain it doesn't work like that anymore. Sturdy though so not easy to break
Date published: 2017-02-20
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not that great It's too complicated for the intended age group to use on their own. it also doesn't have the stop start play function anymore which was helpful. the first one we purchased broke almost instantly and we haven't played much with the replacement. I would suggest save your money

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a music box Does not read discs anymore like the one I grew up playing with. Requires batteries. Warning on package days not recommended for children under 3 due to small parts, yet package days 18 months and older. This is not a real music box, the discs no longer come with ridges that are read by the arm, rather this is a cheap knock off version, that they still want 30 bucks for. Not worth the money. Don't get the new one, stick with the old one when the quality was much better!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just for the Record! Just for the Record... I will be buying this for my daughter even though there were many negative reviews. It may not be the exact classic we remember but it is close enough for my liking and my daughter will love the music regardless. Can't wait to order this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our son loves it! This is a cute classic toy. Our two year old loves all the songs. It's a little tough for little fingers to use, but our son is starting to be able to use it on his own and without help.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Memories! My children received this as a gift. It's much different than the 80's version that I remember, but it does have some great features. I like how they have to wind is up, take out the records and put them in place. Its easy to store and carry around because of the handle. I mostly like that it doesn't have a on and off button, and that they have to work a bit to get it to work (wind up feature). Great for developing motor skills. Because we have so many noisy light up toys, this one has tough competition, but I'm sure they will revisit over the next few years as I have three young kids.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome toy We still have the original. NO batteries! Buying one for the grandchildren so they have one at home. Teaches the importance of an on/off switch and waiting for the song to be over. Used it many times for musical chairs. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a great choice. We received this as a gift for Christmas for our 18M old. I'm not sure why the age range is 18M+ as it's even difficult for our 4 year old to turn the dial to produce music. It will only play music for a couple minutes with the dial fully turned, which means our kids can't play with it independently. The music that it does produce doesn't even sound that great. I see the arm on this which is required to play music will break very shortly :(

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Only ok I had the original as a child and Obviously the original is better. It looks the same and the music on the records is the same BUT, it isn't a music box. It's battery operated and made to sound like a music box. The updates are a little disappointing. My daughter loves it though. I'm grateful I still have my original!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from glad i bought I purchased this toy for my 2 year old a few months back and she loves it. I was very skeptical after reading some of the other reviews but decided to give it a try. True it may not be exactly identical to the original, however what can we really expect. At 2 years of age she does need some help working but that certainly isnt a deal breaker for us. All in all i recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SO Disappointed My 15 month old loves this classic toy and enjoyed it a lot for 2 months until it BROKE. What a waste of $40. The arm is difficult to move off the record so I had to help him with that. It still turns but won't play music. He keeps asking me to fix it :(. Don't waste your money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My kids love it! I almost didn't buy this based on all the negative reviews, but I'm so glad that I did. True, it has batteries, but my kids (ages 5, 3 and 1) absolutely love it!!! I can't believe how much my 5 and 3 year old love to change the records and sing along. It was by far the best Santa gift this year!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What a bummer!! I was so excited to see this toy in an email I got this morning...I clicked on it right away to order one for my son. Then I saw the reviews. What a complete disappointment. I don't usually post messages like this but I'm hoping Fisher Price will see these and clue in not mess around with the classics. They may as well take it off the shelves...anyone who knows this original is NOT going to buy this imposter. Way to go Fisher Price. :(

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Boo!!! How dare they mess with this classic toy!
Date published: 2011-11-02
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Oh no! I wanted the classic! I was quite ready to buy this but read the reviews before I did so. Thank goodness I did. Why would Fisher Price change an obviously fantastic toy? The wind up version eliminated the need for batteries making it far more environmentally friendly. I'll try to find the original, wind up toy on Ebay. Thanks for the warning Amy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing electronic replica The original was a real wind-up music box and the records had dots to play the notes on the metal tines in the record 'head'. This version is electronic and needs 3AA batteries. The records only serve to tell the box which tinny-sounding file to play (no dots - the photos lie). Plus the head is hard to move off the record. I was so excited when I saw they'd reissued this toy that I got two, one for a gift and one for my own child. I will be sending them back.
