about

This cute little toy chameleon encourages kids to explore the world around them to learn about colors and numbers. Press the button on the chameleon’s tail to scan any color they find (the rug, the floor, a pillow). The chameleon will turn that color – and even identify it for kids! Or, they can spread the paint splats on the floor, pick a play mode and be prompted to follow directions, count, play games and more! There are 3 interactive ways to play: Colors, Counting and Games. In Colors mode, the chameleon encourages color hunts and other interactive play to help kids understand the difference between colors and identify each color by name. “That’s red! Show me your favorite color.” He’ll even teach them how to mix colors to make new ones! “Let’s make purple. What colors do we need?”In Counting mode, as kids scan colors and the chameleon changes colors, they count them together. The chameleon can also help teach your preschooler numbers. “What comes after the number 6 but before the number 8?” In Games mode, kids will love trying to beat the clock as they play timed games like Follow the Lights and Counting Colors! “Find 5 blue objects in 10 seconds. Ready? Go.” In this mode, preschoolers are having lots of fun while they’re learning to listen & follow direction

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cute Concept I concur with previous reviewer's issues, but we also have major problems with it actually scanning colors correctly. My daughter will scan green and it will say brown, or pink and it says blue, etc. I feel like the color scanner isn't that great, you have to make sure that the room is lit perfectly and that you are not standing in front of the light casting a shadow to make it work semi correct. My daughter really wants to love this toy, but often runs up mad because she knows the colors are wrong, like in the game mode trying to find green, she is definitely scanning green, but it saying nope try again. I love Fisher Price and I love the concept of this toy but it needs to have a programming overhaul. I am embarrassed that I purchased this for a gift before getting one myself.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mine didn't work My daughter really liked the camelon changing lights but when my daughter would scan a color the camelon would say a different color. But other than that i like it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Neat idea - but frustrating implementation Everything starts out fine with the chameleon. We understand its limitations with stuffed animals, the angle you hold it, etc. That is no problem. But the "software" is frustrating: it wants to control the play, and does not let the kids decide - it changes play modes whether you want it to or not. Actually, there are two issue we have. First: It takes almost HALF A MINUTE while it "boots up" after you turn the chameleon on (the chameleon gives his introduction "speech"). For the very first time, this is fine. But my daughter knows the toy, and wants to start scanning right away. If it truly needs time to "boot up", then that is fine - why not have the chameleon say "Hi, I'm getting my painvbrush warmed up, and you can start scanning in a second" - it would teach patience, and it makes sense (lots of things require preparation in life). But yelling "CHAMELEON IS MY NAME, CHANGING COLORS IS MY GAME, BLAH BLAH" every single time you start up, sometimes kills her excitement. Listen to the video, and see what I mean. For a kid that wants to start scanning, they don't understand why they have to listen to that intro every time. Second: but that is not the most frustrating thing - we of course teach her to be patient as much as possible. What is worse, is that after just a couple of minutes scanning colors in the first mode, the chameleon decides BY ITSELF to change to another mode - for instance, game more (where it tells you a color, and you have to find and scan it). Why????????????? My daughter way playing happily in the basic scan mode, and she DID NOT want to change the mode, and THE MODE BUTTON WAS NOT TOUCHED. But no, that is not good enough - Fischer Price wants to change the mode on her. So we is left with the option of trying to cycle through the modes by pushing and holding the button, or to switch it off and then back on again (with that annoying introduction). Both take a lot of time away from play, and frustrate her. She abandons the toy over 50% of the time that IT CHANGES MODES ON HER, WHEN SHE DID NOT WANT IT TO. Who wants to be bossed around by a plastic toy? Why, Fischer Price, why? Were the engineers bored? How hard would it have been to leave modes stable, and maybe have another "random" option. I have not seen any user manual that it is in some soft of "demo" mode that we need to turn off, so this is clearly how you designed it. We would have bought many more as gifts for friends, but cannot recommend something where the mode button says one thing, but the chameleon change it on you after only a few minutes of play. So parents: If you want your child to have a chameleon boss it around, then by all means, get this toy. But if you want your child to make their own decisions, and have toys that behave logically and predictably, then stay away. We showed this to a teacher we know, and she thought the same thing: what if you wanted to explore and scan for 10 minutes around the house or classroom? NOPE. THE CHAMELEON WILL NOT LET YOU. After just 2 minutes, it says LETS PLAY SOMETHING ELSE. Ugh.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this, it teaches wrong colors. I don't think it's a good idea to buy this toy. It consistently tells the kid he has the wrong answer, and sometimes identifies the wrong colors, saying a dark red is brown etc. I get that a toy can't be expected to have the precision of expensive equipment, but that's why this kind of thing shouldn't be a toy. If a child is learning, it's not helpful to get the wrong answer or be told he's wrong when he's not. I let my 4 year old play with it because he knows the toy is wrong, but he's not allowed to let the two year old play with it. It was a gift or I would return it. I would not buy this, and I highly suggest you don't either.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good potential but falls a bit short Like others have said sometimes it's hard to get it to identify colors correctly. It does great when using the paint splatters it comes with, but it can't change colors to black, brown. Why include colors in the box it can't change to? Or better yet, those are common colors so why not make the chameleon able to change to those colors? Great learning toy and great concept just not quite complete.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun & Educational **I received this product for free in exchange for writing my review** While my 4-year old son was only interested in it for a few days (he's known is colors since he was 2-years old) it is still a very awesome learning tool! The chameleon can recognize colors fairly easily, however my husband and I both noticed that it had a hard time distinguishing the colors gray and yellow on numerous surfaces & materials. The game setting is pretty fun and helps kids to take more notice of colors in their surrounding. My son did enjoy running around the house trying to scan various items to match the colors it requested. I think for the "early scholars" out there that a smaller version would be nice as this chameleon is rather large and wouldn't be easy for a 2-year old to use. I am excited to see what the future holds for the next generation of these types of educational toys. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This toy is awesome and fun and smart! This is one of the coolest toys for learning and reinforcing colors. The chameleon not only comes with his own color splashes that he can read the color of, but can read the colors of tons of things around your house. He isn't perfect, he does get some wrong and cannot tell the color of everything, but overall it is loads of fun. There are several different games that you can play with him too. My kids like to find the color the chameleon tells you to find. There is also an app for your phone/tablet that you can get for this too. I haven't looked too much into the app but the little but that I have was fun. The voice on the chameleon is pleasant and a good volume, but you cannot adjust the volume. The button to scan the color is easy to press and this toy is very easy to use. I would definitely recommend it to other parents or anyone looking to give a cool gift that is a fun way to teach colors and more. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

My boys were flabbergasted on the fact that it can tell you the color of nearly everything around you!!!!! It's pretty neat!! This is a must for toddlers and preschoolers!!! It really gets you involved with colors with the games it plays with you!! It is worth every penny!!!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute toy with good learning capabilities I received this product in exchange for my honest opinion. I have a 4 year old and an almost 2 year old. Both kids enjoy playing with this chameleon. My 4 year old obviously knows her colors but she liked the game mode where you have to mimick the color sequence. My almost 2 year old will use this more as practice for learning colors. I was pleased to discover it can also teach them how to count to 10. Overall it is a great toy and I would recommend highly for the 2-3 age group especially! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Chameleon struggles to identity With my granddaughter being in preschool, I was excited at all the features the chameleon offered. Unfortunately she lost interest very quickly when this cute little toy seemed to struggle identifying colors and even getting them wrong a couple times. My granddaughter also had a difficult time knowing when to scan. Directions state to hold the paint brush over a color before hitting the scan button, however she would hit the scan then put the paint brush over a color. Also she, and even myself, had a hard time with the location of the scan button which is located towards the end of the back. While this is an ideal spot, the way the tail curves makes it difficult for the hand to grasp. With all this being said, I believe this could be a wonderful educational toy given a few tweaks here and there. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent toy!! This toy is not only fun but educational too! From the moment we opened the box, my children were captivated by this toy. The design of the chameleon is very cute and age appropriate. My son imeddiately asked for me to open it and began playing with it right away. He enjoyed scanning every item in the living room as he enthusiastically repeated the colors. In terms of durability, it's exactly what I expected. This chameleon is sturdy enough and we had no issues wit it even after my son accidentally dropped it a couple of times. Overall, this toy is great for any preschool age child. It's fun, durable, entertaining, and educational. All characteristics that as a mother, I look for in a toy. I have already recommended this toy to a friend and will continue to do so in the future! Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun & interactive way to learn colors and numbers This is a wonderful toy! Its educational and entertaining. My children love it! They fight over this toy constantly. My oldest couldn't get enough of it and loved all of the different games it lets you play. They especially enjoy the color find game. The only thing we noticed (and that they did complained about) is that sometimes it is difficult for them to scan things. It's not because of the lighting (which can affect the scanner and hasn't really been an issue), but just because they struggled with getting the scanner flat enough to scan things sometimes. I don't know if it would help if the scanner was bigger or angled differently. It impedes play occasionally, but not enough to stop my kids from playing with it. I would have rated this as "excellent" toy rather than "good" were it not for the issue with the scanner. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Chameleon is so neat & so much fun! My 3 year old twin boys love this smart scan color chameleon! At first I was nervous that they would break it before even getting a chance to turn it on but thankfully they didn't. The first thing I really liked was that it comes with batteries! Not to often you can open up a toy and not have to search for batteries or have to go out and purchase some. So that was a HUGE plus. Next I will explain how it works & how much fun it is! Before I took it out of the package I read the instructions first, and I am so glad I did. Because they tell you to make sure your in a regular light setting and not where its super bright. So I shut my curtains so it was shady so I could get the best performance from the color chameleon. The instructions are very detailed so I had no issues trying to figure out how to work the chameleon. This chameleon is such a great learning toy for children of any age in my opinion. The chameleon knows 10 colors, and you can scan anything of color. I did notice that I couldn't scan my couch as its a plaid, and I couldn't scan the kids dinosaurs they sure did try though. Other than that I had no issues! And when the chameleon says the color my boys would point and repeat the color. Which makes me extremely proud because I sure have been trying to teach them! I also love the games, one of the games is for your child to find as many colors as possible in 1 minute which is really neat, another thing when you press the button on his upper part of his tail, he will light up. And one of the games is guessing the color of the chameleon. He will turn a color and the kids had to find that color by scanning it to get it right. So neat & such a well thought out toy. And it kept my boys attention & they were busy for awhile. And I was able to get some stuff done. The color chameleon comes with 10 splats of paint in the main colors. Pink, Brown, Black, White, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue & Purple. On each splat of paint there is a number 1-10. If you want to paint you leave push the button to the symbol that shows a palette you use to paint. Then if you want If you want to free play count, which means to scan different colors & listen to the chameleon count how many 1 to 10. Or counting directed colors, and this one you will listen for what the chameleon tells you to find. And something I really thought was cool is if you accidentally scan the wrong color the chameleon actually repeats the color you have to find. And then you have the number hunt game where your child and your child will have to find the right number. I could keep going on and on I am so pleased with this Smart Scan Color Chameleon. I definitely recommend it to anyone who has a child or children who are either having some trouble with learning colors/numbers. Or even if you just want them to learn or you can buy it just for fun. Every kid will loves this! Even my Niece who is 7 loves it and she knows her colors & numbers. I received this product for FREE in exchange for my honest opinion! Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute and educational! The twins were very excited when this toy came in the mail. It was bigger than we expected. The colors are so vibrant! When he lights up you know exactly what color he is. When you place him on the paint splatters it recognizes them immediately. The games and the songs are super cute without being annoying or robotic. We were most excited about the feature of placing him on any surface and having him recognize the colors. This is where the toy tends to fall a little short. It doesn't always recognize the color or lights up the wrong color. The sensor has to be placed just right for it to work at all. This can be frustrating to the Littles. Overall I think the toy is super cute and the kids do love to play with it. I would recommend this toy for an age of around 3. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool Toy! My 4 year old son has really enjoyed this! He especially likes the game setting. I have noticed that the scanner doesn't always pick up the color, but he doesn't seem to mind! It's a great concept and although he knows his colors and numbers, it makes him think quickly. Cool toy, he really has enjoyed it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features I just received this today and when the package came my little one opened it herself. She loved it as soon as i was able to remove the packaging. She loves the bright colors and is always saying mixing mixing because it tells you how to mix colors together. I love that she is able to move through different features of this chameleon. It keeps her entertained. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great think and learn toy! My girls are in VPK and are currently learning colors and numbers. As soon as we opened the package they started naming the colors and counting from 1-10. What they enjoyed most was when they had to search for the colors all around the house to see if they can get 10 things of the same color. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very cute toy! The chameleon is really cute! The features are nice, but it's a little awkward to hold. I would have liked a place on the chameleon to hold the color and it would be nice if it scanned a little further away from the object. My daughters seem to really be enjoying it overall. I received this toy for free in exchange for my honest review. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Think and learn smart scan color chameleon This is a great toy for toddlers in helping to teach them colors. It is a well made toy. It works great scanning the included paint splotches and in helping to teach my toddler colors, it just doesn't work well for scanning other objects. She would get frustrated because it would mix up the colors of random objects around the house and just wouldn't scan at all. It is a great concept and toy with the included paint splotches, but if your toddler is carrying it around and trying to scan random objects, its not great. After a while, she lost insterest and just pushed it around the room like a car [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
