Rated 3 out of 5 by from Expansion pack I bought it for my 4 year, she had fun with it but I wish there was an expansion pack to buy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not enough content to hold attention I bought this for my 4 year old and she asked why they didn’t have a disk for every letter of the alphabet or more than 9 disks, if they had more she and her sister would have played it longer because they liked the concept and games just got bored with not enough disks to keep it interesting...pretty bummed about that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good idea, doesn't hold interest Bought this for my 4 year old and it's a good idea, but he was over it in a few minutes. Maybe if there were more discs it would hold his interest longer. Also I wish it was easier to switch between the activities in one mode. I didn't see anything in the instructions on how to do that. After looking online you have to hold the button for about 10 seconds (really long time)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not fun at all My 3 year old played with this for 1 minute and was done with it. He even made the comment "That's it??" I don't see the point of it, there is not real learning going on and only has 9 disks. Why are there only 9 disks? I'm glad it was a gift and I didn't waste my money on this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fisher Price is phoning it in with this one Terrible instructions, limited capability. I'm actually online right now to verify that this is all that this toy can do. Sad!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cool idea, not enough discs. My 2 and 3 year old had a great time with this..for five minutes. More discs really should be included, and I would love to be able to purchase more disc packs to expand the learning fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Learning Scavenger Hunt! We got this toy about a month ago and it has been a treat for my son. It has three modes which add to the re-play factor of this unit. His current favorite is the stories and music mode. Not only does he get a learning experience, but also some movement seeking out the other disks. The discs come in a handy holder, so that they are easy to store together. Highly Recommend! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent This was really intuitive and fun for both my kids to play with. My daughter (3ed grade) actually was helping her four year old brother learn to play. I was really excited that this made it fun for her to actually play WITH him, instead of just him playing alone! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great design! My son was very excited when he heard about this toy. He loves letters and is fascinated with words and spelling. Plus the fact that the toy resembles a wand was an added plus. When we received the toy he thought it was so cool. I was excited about the different modes and games that the toy offers but was disappointed when we started to use the toy that it was not simple to go to the different games within each mode. You had to fully complete the first game in order to get to the second game. I wish there was a way to skip around games as my son didn't care too much for the first game. An added bonus was that the disks attach to the wand In a carrying case making it easy to store and keep track of the disks. This toy was appropriate for my 4 year old and my six year old enjoyed it too. The design of the wand was popular with my kids. Great, fun toy! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Keeps the kids entertained... For a bit As others have stated, this game has potential to be awesome, but needs work and potentially some add-ons. There are 9 different games, but in order to get to some of them, you must press and hold the button for 10 seconds. I think the wait was too long. The story mode was pretty nice. The poem making mode seemed silly, they laughed, but my kids got a kick out of listening to their silly poems. The game mode was actually very fun. Not very educational, but it got them moving and laughing. This mode should offer more learning opportunities. The included instructions are not very helpful. There is a list of the games you can play, but nowhere does it tell you to hold the button for 10 seconds to switch between games. It took a few minutes for us to figure this out. I also wish it had more cards. It would be nice if you could purchase different sets, like a numbers set, and alphabet set, etc. Maybe an add on pack would be a nice feature!!??? Overall, this is a really fun game once you get used to the little quirks. I can see my kids playing with it often and learning how to build stories, find letters, and listen for prompts. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hours of fun I received the Think & Learn Smart Scan Word Dash in exchange for my review of this product. I found that it was easy for both my 4 year old and my 2 year old grandchildren to use. They played with it for hours and it is sturdy enough to take the rough handling of a 2 year old. But it was also very educational and entertaining for the 4 year old. My 4 year old granddaughter guickly began to recognize letters and even some words while having fun with it. The design made it easy for them to hold and use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun and educational I received this for free to review. My 4 year old really likes it. She finds it fun and with the 3 different ways to play, it keeps her attention and keeps her thinking! I like it because it is educational. I gave it 4 stars because it doesn't come with very many disks and I haven't found if I can purchase more. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best toys we have! I am so happy with the Think & Learn Smart Scan! It is by far one of the best toys that I have had the privilege to share with my children recently. My soon to be five year old absolutely loves it, I am happy with it because it is fun, active and educational all at the same time, and the music and sounds that go along with it are a lot of fun rather than loud and obnoxious. I am hoping to find expansion packs with more discs in the future. The packaging description is spot on. It builds early literacy skills, thinking skills, and the ability to listen for and follow directions. The toy is a home run in my book! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Learning Toy I received this product for free through Mattel play rate and review program for my honest review. Product came quick in the mail. It was easy to add batteries, I do wish it came with batteries. At first it was confusing to turn on, the button in the front of the toy looks like a on/off button but it's not. To turn on the switch is located on the side. The button on the fro t of the toy is the button you push to scan the disk. After figuring that out the game was fun. My kids enjoyed scanning the disk and seeing what it would do. I love how the product was designed. After the kids are done playing they put the disk back in the holder and it attaches to the scanner..... Brilliant! This design makes it easy to keep together so no pieces come up missing. Overall I love this product and so do my kids. I love how they make learning fun with this. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is great! My son and daughter love using the scanner for this toy to hunt for the discs. They're learning so much about places and animals, they keep asking me questions. What I like most is the time we get to spend together playing! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for 3-4 year olds I ordered this Think and Learn Smart Scan for my 4 year old daughter. The wand portion of this toy fit comfortably in her hand which I was a little worried it might be too big. Totally not the case. It comes with 9 hard plastic disc which have their own case which is perfect for keeping track of them. Each disc has a word when scan the wand will say the word , make the sound of the picture even , tell you about the item on each disc. There was several different games, I believe 9 or 10. You must hold the button for about 10 seconds to change from game to game. These few seconds drove my daughter crazy. She loved making up songs with the toy. But I really wish you could purchase additional discs. Maybe a disc for each letter of the alphabet, shapes, numbers etc.. Although she had a blast with this toy without more variety in discs i don't see if holding her attention long term. I still would recommend this toy but for more of the 3-4 age range. Rated 4 out of 5 by from pretty neat We received this in the mail on Friday, (free, for my honest opinion). It is very neat except, my son is 4 and it took him awhile to understand pushing the button on the scanner while making a poem or song. Other than that, it is very awesome. Its a great learning tool. I love toys that inspire and teach. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much learning fun. My son loved this toy. He had so much fun and didn't even realize he was learning the whole time. I scattered the discs and then off the kids went. We brought this to a play date and the kids were occupied and laughing for half an hour! I would recommend this for any preschooler. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too complicated We found this toy too complicated. When prompted to scan a disk, it often took several attempts to get it to work. Overall myself and my children got bored with this toy. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We want more! This was so wonderful that within an hour of opening it, I was emailing Fisher Price, asking for more disks! My kids LOVED this, and the different modes meant that more than one child at a time could play along! There is also a lot of movement involved! It was a blast. My ONLY concern is that it comes with just a few disks. They need to sell add-on disks! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Learning Toy! My grandson received the Think & Learn Smart Scan today and he couldn't put it down! He really had fun with all the different games that it had on it. I really liked how well it held his attention. The little cards that come with it are cute and my grandson liked that he could click on the cards himself with out my help. This would be a great learning toy to take with you if you were going to a friends house or a grandparents house because the cards store inside a little plastic container that then fits in the middle of the hand held scanner. Clean up is quick and easy for little hands. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A friend in a box! Our kids love this Smart Scan Word Dash and it has some great teaching elements to it! The first thing I appreciate about it is that it is fairly compact and easy to store. All of the cards fit in a little compact case, which locks into the middle of the "scanner" or magnifying glass for storage. To install the batteries, you unscrew a small philips head screw to remove the battery panel under the handle on the magnifying glass. It takes 3 AAA batteries and they seem to be lasting a long time, in spite of lots of play time. To turn the unit on, first choose which activity category you would like to start with based on the following buttons: ABC: Letters & Words (Explore, Letter Detector, Treasure Hunt) Book image: Stories and Music (Create Music, Write a Poem, Create a story) Stopwatch image: Games (Red Light-Green Light, Beat the Clock, Follow the Leader) To begin play, turn the unit on and a gregarious (if not all too enthusiastic) voice will welcome the kids and jump right into the first activity for the category that the switch is on. If you want to go to the 2nd or 3rd activity listed, you need to hold the scan button down (the round button on the front that looks like it is a power button...see picture). When the kids scan a card, they are usually given a silly activity to help reinforce the word. In the ABC/Explore mode, for example, if they scan the Explorer card, the game will tell them what an Explorer is and then have the kids march around the room pretending to be explorers. Our kids feel like these games add some action movements and creative elements that are fun and not typical of other learning games, so they scan a card and get to act silly and burn a little energy while learning. Personally the voice and volume of the toy can grate on my nerves a bit when it is very close to me, but the kids absolutely love it, so I have to appreciate the fun and fresh approach to a game and the fact that they are learning. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really cool technology! Note: I received this product for free in return for my honest, unbiased opinion. I wasn't sure what to expect from this toy but I was pleasantly surprised! First off, there's nothing to put together so that's a plus! You do have to put 3 AAA batteries in because it doesn't come with batteries but not a big deal. The toy is basically ready to play and there's not a lot to figure out. When you turn it on, it talks you through what to do. There are three modes: letters and words, music, and games. It comes with little cards that you scan and the scanner reads them when you hover the center of the "wand" over the card. It then reads the card and depending on the mode, either plays music or says the word on the card and plays sounds or you can do a game. We didn't do any of the games yet but it was fun scanning the cards and hearing it read the words and play music! My daughter loves playing treasure hunts and loves when I hide eggs for her to find so this is cool because I hide the cards and its like shes a detective and goes and finds them! I don't know the technology behind the scanning but it's amazing! And it's not hard to get it to scan them, which I thought could be an issue. One of the best features is that it comes with a little case for the cards AND the case fits in the open center of the wand! You put it in and sort of slightly screw it in! I was so impressed. I loved that it keeps everything together and is pretty compact. Doesn't take up a little of room and isn't heavy at all. The case thing may be a little hard for some of the kids to screw in at first but I think once they figure it out it would be easy. I highly recommend this toy and think we'll be getting lots of use out of it! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fun for the whole family! My son has been having quite a bit of fun with this game. Once we showed him how to use it, he became a pro! The buttons are really easy to push and the discs are easy to scan. He loves the story mode. We are able to play along with him as well, and my son loves that! Rated 4 out of 5 by from Word dash fun I received this free product in exchange for an honest review. The product came with easy setup instructions, requires 3aaa batteries (not included). Once setup, the games and settings were easy to understand and follow. The controller appears to be complete and very sturdy, the game disks are made of a hard plastic and offer a good variety. The case containing game cards fits well inside the controller making it easy to keep everything together. Definitely would recommend this product! Kids love it! Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much fun! We just received this to review and my kids are having so much fun with it. I love how it really gets them moving. My oldest three kiddos love competing with eachother to see who can do this the fastest. They are 8, 6, and 4. They even help out the 4yr old when he needs it. Our favorite mode is the game mode. Maybe next we will have to move the cards even farther apart. I like how it also teaches them about the things on the cards. I do wish there were more cards or even cards with the whole alphabet on them to teach more. Thanks for giving us a chance to check this out. So much fun. We give it 8 thumbs up.
