Customer Reviews of GoldieBlox and the Spinning Machine

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My daughter builds! I bought this toy a year ago and my four year old daughter still plays with it. I actually got the Parade Float set for her at Christmas too. Her brother is an avid KNex fan, and she dabbled in that toy, but now with GoldieBlox, she builds different contraptions all of the time! I think the features that draws her to building unlike KNex are the cute characters and the ribbons...also, the even though KNex has more types of pieces and a long standing history, GoldieBlox keeps my daughters attention and imagination.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Boring story- limited play We were completely jazzed about this toy- ordered it for my 5 year old keen reader/engineer. She was so bored with the story, which has no point and limited problem solving opportunities, and bored with spinning machines in less than a day. Not a fan! You'd do way better with Camelot Jr. For problem solving!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just for girls We ordered our Goldie Blox through Kickstarter for our 5 & 8 year old daughters. I love the way Goldie Blox integrates reading and a construction toy. My girls are already way into their legos, so this was right up their ally. I also liked how Goldie breaks down some gender stereotypes without being too preachy. If you've got a Dad who loved building toys as a kid, this might also be a way for him to share that with a daughter who is reluctant to play with Dad's old Mecano. However, conceptually, I can see that this is a great way to introduce kids (boys or girls) who are stronger readers and more interested in storytelling to spatial awareness and engineering concepts. It would also be a good way to get a non-reader to read a little more, as it is an interactive text, and often those kids will like to read things like instruction manuals, rahter than a straight-up story book. The toy also has play value 3 months later, and my older daughter is still brining it off the shelf. We can't wait for the "expansion packs" to start coming out.
