Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Starter Set Stir-It-Up Chemistry Lab & Kitchen Experiments Journal is a set that includes test tubes, measuring devices, safety glasses and a journal. There is even a test tube stand included because no scientist should be without a test tube stand! There are activities in the journal that mention an ADULT is required but there are activities as well that kids can do on their own. The activities that require an adult would make a great bonding exercise and teaching experience. You will also need various items/ingredients for the experiments but they all seem pretty standard. There are plenty of spots in the journal to jot down conclusions and questions just like a real scientist would. After your child completed all the experiments in the journal they can then download more experiments to check out or come up with their own! This is a perfect set for any child who loves science or if you want a product to spark some interest in science! I received this product to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You are going to love this chemistry set!!!!!!!!! I got the Nancy B's Science Club Stir-It-Up Chemistry Lab & Kitchen Experiments Journal for my curious first grader who loves science. Despite the purple and teal color scheme that looks more appealing to girls, he was dying to try it. The lab equipment appears to be made of plastic without any sharp edges. A 22-page journal is also included. It would be nice if a storage case or reusable bag was included for the equipment. The clear and concise journal is a great addition. The beginning of the book explains what chemists do and the purpose of the equipment. It goes on to define common vocabulary used in chemistry. User tips, fun facts, and several experiments are also included. The explanations are straightforward, perfect for young children. Many parents may not have the time, knowledge, or inclination to explain chemistry to their children and create experiments for them. No worries, it's already been done for you. This is a great resource to teach children experimentation, the art of observation, and how to document their findings through pictures and words. We performed the "Dancing Waters" experiment which demonstrates how temperature affects density. It was a quick, fun activity that he really enjoyed. Other than the equipment from the box, the only other supplies needed were food coloring, water, and a microwave oven. Some of the experiments require items that you probably have in your pantry, while others need items that you can find at the store, but may not necessarily have at home. This is an interesting and fun introduction to chemistry and the scientific method for young children. My son enjoyed it, and said it's now his new favorite toy. (Previously, his favorite toy was the Nancy B's Science Club Microscope and Activity Journal.) He said, "If you try this chemistry set, you are going to love it!!!!!!!!!" (He said I needed to put nine exclamation points in the review.) We received this product in exchange for an honest review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun, Interactive, Highly Recommend Wonderful! My 9-year-old couldn't wait to open the box and begin experimenting. The experiments are easy to follow and use every day household items, which allowed her to begin the science projects immediately after opening the box. Her first science project was with the ice cubes and salt. She followed through on the entire project and documented her results. It was age appropriate, interactive, and fun. Clean-up was easy. I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chemistry at its coolest! I'll admit I was dubious about trying out ANY chemistry kit with my kids--mainly because a) I never was a chemistry whiz myself, and b) my kids are, well . . . kids. But Nancy B's kit is the way to go, even if you're a science novice. The experiments are simple but educational, and the instructions in the lab journal are easy to read. My nine year old (who happened to be home sick and was looking for a diversion) tried out the "Dancing Waters" experiment with me. "Dancing Waters" teaches kids about the connection between molecular activity and water temperature. Sound like a daunting concept? Well, it isn't really, especially when you're having fun with food coloring! What's also nice about the journal is that it includes writing and drawing space for users to record their own observations and provides some basic safety tips that are good practice for experiments that will one day occur in a classroom setting. In addition, the graduated cylinder, beaker, and test tubes are sturdy (a bonus we got to experience firsthand when my three year old interrupted our lab time and knocked a few pieces of equipment on the ground). Also included in the kit are lab glasses, a stirring rod, dropper, funnel, and test tube rack, so kids get a good sense of what a scientist's toolkit truly looks like. While you'll have to provide a few of your own supplies (aka, food dye and the like), there's a good chance that anything that doesn't come with the kit is something you already have in your pantry. In a word, I would highly recommend this Nancy B product--for kids with an interest in science, kids who are a bit leery of science, and everyone in between!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fun in the Kitchen with this Adorable Chemistry Set!! This is a SUPER adorable chemistry set to introduce the kids to the amazing world of science! My 10 year old daughter grabbed this kit and literally couldn't wait to get started. I was busy doing other things, but she read through the journal/activity book and immediately got to work. She chose experiments that required very little adult supervision and she and her younger (7 year old) sister messed around for the next 2 hours! They did the acids/bases experiment, melted ice cubes with and without salt to observe the difference, and watched food coloring seep through a coffee filter and separate into their individual colors after being mixed together into a black mess in a small amount of water. They were amazed at the findings and my heart warmed as I listened to them discovering things I still remember discovering back in my elementary school days. Pages are already earmarked for the next session. :) The set is sturdy and simple, easy to work with, and clean up is a breeze. Also, the activity journal encourages critical thinking skills and is just a beautiful book where they can record observations, make predictions and more. SO much fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple science fun for 9 year old son. We received this as a gift for my 9 year old son. I was a little hesitant that he would not be interested because the colors were a little on the girly side. He didn't seem to care as he was just so excited to do the experiments. He did comment that the glasses were pink, but he put them right on. I love that the kit comes with all the tools you need to run the experiments and the book explains what each tool is for. I had most of the materials in in my house to run the experiments and the clean up is super easy. The book that comes with the kit was fantastic! My son had no interest in reading it as he wanted to go straight to the experiences . I explained to him the importance of reading in order to learn the purpose of the experience and for safety. So, I sat there with him and read the instructions aloud - I was his assistant while he ran the experiments. We had fun working together. He was very proud of what he learned and was eager to show his father who was watching TV sports in the other room. At the end of each experiment there is a fun quiz. My son answered it correctly which proved he actually absorbed the information - yay! I highly recommend this kit for any kid who has an interest in chemistry/science. It was lots of simple science fun for both the child and adult!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes learning fun! My 10 year old daughter was super excited when the package arrived with this toy and begged me for days to do the experiments with her. Ultimately, when we opened it, I realized that she could - and mostly did - do the experiments in large part by herself. The kid who complains about her homework was all too happy to write down her observations, draw pictures and come up with hypotheses. She loved it and also learned a lot (mom learned too!). Her absolute favorite experiment was putting a flame out with invisible gas! All learning should be fun like this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Learning while Playing My kids are 8 and 10. This is the perfect "toy" for them to play with together. They immediately did an experiment that only required ice and salt. They were learning while they played and for me it was lovely to watch. They didn't need my help much at all since they were working as a team. Both kids were learning and enjoying themselves, it's great!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Learning for Everyone Nancy B's Chemistry Lab has clear, easy to follow instructions for the experiments. We love that there is an area for kids to record their own observations, because not all kids' science kits come with a journal. It was perfect for my 1st grader who will be doing a unit on solids, liquids, and gas at school this year. For comprehensive, easy to understand science information, this product is great. The only negative is that we didn't have a few of the ingredients on hand such as an Alka Seltzer, so we will have to do those experiments at a later time. It would be great if the kit included some of these less common ingredients.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality! Good Supplement to Homeschool! We have been using this product for a few weeks with my 10-year old homeschooled 5th graders! They love doing the experiments. Many of them they can do themselves with supervision. They love being hands-on with the equipment. Most materials needed I already had in our home - a few things I needed to buy from the local grocery store. The product pieces are GOOD QUALITY and the experiments in the booklet are well-written and clear. I love that it gives prompts to ask the kids questions and discuss their hypothesis, but also provides the answers and key information. We have been loving spending time as a family getting a hands-on education about science! It has been a great supplement to our textbook learning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fun for kids of all ages A great introduction to chemistry and science. The experiments are clearly written and easy to follow and used ingredients we all have around the house. Not strong in science myself I had a lot of fun exploring and doing the experiments along side my kids. I was impressed with the quality of the science equipment. The maker didn't dumb it down just because this is a "toy". The beaker, test tubes, etc are the real deal and a great quality. Every day when my kids come home from school they ask to do more chemistry. I can't wait to try out other Nancy B's Science Club products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Way to Get Your Child Interested in Science I received this sample from Educational Insights for review. My opinions are honest. No compensation was received. My daughter loves school and is always interested in learning new things. She was very excited to open the Chemistry Lab and see all of the fun experiments she could do. She immediately focused on two to do right away;one that involved inflating a balloon with vinegar and baking soda and another that involved food coloring and seeing how it reacted differently in cold and warm water. She really enjoyed setting up and doing both experiments and was interested in learning how and why events happened the way they did. This really had her interested in science and she has already asked when she gets to do the rest of the experiments described in the included journal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Homeschool This set is awesome as a supplement to homeschool curriculum. My son loved the experiments in it, and my only complaint is that I needed to buy some extra supplies to make it work. I would have loved for everything to come in the box, but as long as you know you are going to need to pick up a few things (like a balloon) you'll be good to go. Once you complete the kit, you can still use the tubes and accessories- they clean up easily and are durable enough to last.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great fun for the Whole Family My kids love to do their own experiments, even if it means they don't have any official equipment or direction! It's fun to play with these things and educational insights helps do it safely with the Stir-it-Up Chemistry Lab. This set comes up most things you need to complete the experiments but not everything. Other things needed are usually household items you will have on hand like baking soda and white vinegar. I do wish it included every single thing so that when the box was opened it was good to go. We had trouble locating a few random things like a balloon (only around for birthdays) and candle (I go flameless). However, the kids had fun playing with the little vials and pretending they were doing things while we were on the hunting for the needed items. The guidebook tells you step by step exactly what to do and what you will need for each experiment. It also includes a pair of safety goggles so that their eyes are protected. Safety first! I happened to have a spare pair on hand so that both kids could do this together. Daddy helped out with the experiment while I gathered everything we needed so it was fun that the whole family could do it together. Since we didn't have everything on hand the first time we just did the experiments we did have things for like extinguishing the candle flame by creating our own gas. The kids thought this was the coolest thing ever and wanted to do it over and over again. Since they are also huge Star Wars fans they were obsessed with the idea of making their own lava in a bottle! The kids loved doing these experiments and ask every day if they can be scientists! While I do wish that the kit came with at least some of the required elements, I do see the appeal of being able to do multiple experiments using household items. The kit comes with all the scientific items required including the beaker, test tubes and rack to keep them in, graduated cylinder and lab glasses and more!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Beginner's Chemistry Set! This is a wonderful set for budding chemists. It includes heavy duty tools and a great book full of introductory experiments that use household materials that you are likely to have on hand. My 6 and 8 year old kiddos have really been enjoying this set and can complete most experiments on their own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for little chemiest I love the educational aspect as kids do not realize they are learning. It really helps my son who has a learning disability make measuring more fun. It comes with all the cool science equipment that kids need to conduct the experiments. Kids will love this as well as adults. I did receive this for free in exchange for a honest review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Educational Fun! My 8 year old daughter has had such a great time trying the various experiments found in this kit. She still needs my help as her assistant, but is basically able to do most of it on her own. I love the educational aspect this set provides, but in such a fun way, the kids don't even realize they are learning at the same time. It allows her to practice how to measure substances, follow basic directions, conduct basic experiments and come to a conclusion based on her experiment results. I love that it comes with all the cool lab equipment. My one suggestion is that it include items such as the Alka-Seltzer and the balloon. We were unable to conduct those experiments because I didn't have these items in my house. I think this is definitely age appropriate. My younger 6 year old daughter enjoyed helping with the experiments but had no interest in journaling the results. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for engaging the mind My daughter received this science set in return for a review. This is our honest opinion. My daughter is nine years old. She absolutely loves this science set. She could not wait to dive in and get started on all of the different experiments. The first experiment opens up the communication of density using water, oil, and syrup. Because oil was used I was a bit nervous of the cleansing part, however this cylinder is dishwasher safe. So that was a plus! All pieces seemed to be made well and the booklet is great to read up on the experiments. This product is perfect for discovering some of the fundamentals of science and would make a good rainy day activity or when the weather is not cooperating outside. I would definitely recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Kids had a blast! My kids really had fun with this, they did 3 experiments right off the bat, two were a success, one was not, but that is a lesson in ingredients matter! Tums cannot be substituted for Alka Seltzer! My 9 year old enjoyed filling out the journal, my 7 year old, did not enjoy this part, but that is more typical of him. As a parent, the only complain I had would be to include a balloon! Finding a balloon was tough around the house, the one we used was not nearly large enough, but I wasn't in the mood to go shopping. A few "extras" like that (include the alka seltzer, balloon, etc) would make it ia home run, these are not items I typically have at home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great science kit! We received this science kit and my 9 year old daughter did the first experiment immediately. She likes the stand for the test tubes, and the fact that the directions are easy to understand on her own. She liked filling out the book while she did the experiments. This is a good quality kit that uses common kitchen items to teach scientific concepts. It is fun enough that she didn't mind doing science (which she doesn't usually like). Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun for Younger Children Too! We were sent this product to review from Educational Insights. My daughter is almost six and loves science and learning. She has loved this kit. We have done about half of the experiments and she was fascinated with all of them. She did not enjoy writing the answers to the questions as much and wanted my help with that- but an older child would probably enjoy that more. I think this is a great learning toy that can also be used with younger children who have an interest in science.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Breezy Fun! My oldest daughter loved the chemistry set. I enjoyed using products from our home and not having to buy anything. My daughter was really focused on the outcome of the experiments which made me proud because it was a learning experience for her. I would recommend this toy to any parent that has older children.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Science fun! Educational but children will just focus on the fun. Uses many home items so you don't need to go out and purchase more to conduct experiments.
