Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Word Practice My daughter got this as a gift for Christmas as she loves letters. She can't quite read yet but it helps her develop an understanding of what letters are used to make the words related to the picture. The words are small enough that she can understand them and the pictures are bright and colourful. The only thing is not all of the letters of the alphabet are included to create our own words for additional practice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The product is wonderful and it allows the children to learn The children are able to spell the word and look at the picture and also learn the letters. It is a multipurpose learning tool. The children are having fun while playing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect letter toy! I love this toy! I have 3 kids..... 3, 6, 7 and all have benefitted from it. Our middle child is cognitively delayed and loves the toy also. It helps with fine motor skills, color identification, and letter recognition. Highly recommended. I've also given it as a gift to my niece heading into kindergarten next year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 4 year old's favorite toy! Please, please, please make more letter boards!! I'm willing to get down on my knees and beg. My son adores this toy and ask to play with his "spelling puzzles" multiple times a day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pre reading word learning set We spread the whole set and my grandchildren like to do each word one at a time. It really would be more challenging if you had additional word boards to supplement the original set!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from mom of special needs son My mother got see& spell learning toy for my special need son.He loves to look at the pictures and tell what it is. Then we find the letter ths t match the picture. His preschool suggested we purchased this toy to help my son with his speech problems. He is a lot better with speaking words. We have other Melissa and Doug toys that he loves to play with. The toy are very durable to kids of any age.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good idea; poor product support This would have been a promising toy/learning material if there were any product support for it. As it is, the letters are not terribly sturdy and we've lost pieces to a chewing pet and, well, just getting lost. Meanwhile, Melissa & Doug doesn't offer replacement parts and doesn't have any plans to. The person I spoke to was unsympathetic to the whole issue. So, essentially, you should consider this either a disposable item or a source of frustration for a curious child who wants to spell with missing letters. M&D didn't even answer 2 written requests for them and I only was able to get an answer by phoning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My kids looove this and so do I! I use this with my 2 & 3 year old. I think this is such a great "toy"! They can search for the letters, spell the word, see the coordinating picture, and I have ghem say all the letters and announce what word it spells. And the way it's displayed, they can play at thr same time - plenty of letters. I just wish I could purchase additional word boards for it. :-\

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Missing the letter 'e' My mother in law ordered this online and had it shipped to my 4 year old because I love Melissa and Doug toys. This was a disappointment because one of the words - cake requires the letter 'e' ; unfortunately it was not included in the set.... Our daughter still plays with this set, but regularly complains about the missing letter. It was disappointing because I think without the missing letter this toy would have gotten much more play .....

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Well made; no replacement letters :( Nice wood spelling toy. My 2 & 5 year old kids both play with it. But M&D needs to offer replacement letters with things like this as letters are bound to get misplaced. The variance in the custom-made letters can't be that great that the letters wouldn't fit if replacements were made available.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed with the quality I was very excited when i saw this item from M&D online. Hence, i quickly go and hunt around trying to get it. As i am not staying in US/Canada, finaly i found one shop seling M&D product in Singapore. and i purchased a lot of M&D items for my 3 y.o. And this Spelling one is my favirate. However, when i opened up the box and clean the letters, i noticed that there are some thorns on the wood letters, which could hurt my little girls' fingers. So i was trying to trim it away. However, when i found out that nearly more than 30 leters are having the same issue, and some letters have a few places with the thorns. I gave up. I was so diaspointed that i could not give this to my little girl to play and learn since it is going to hurt her hands/fingers. So in the end, i have to go back to the shop to exchange to return. But the shop owner refused to exchange/return for me. Reason being that wood products are all like that, and it is normal to have thorns. THis is totally unreasonable, and what an exerience for my fist M&D item purchasing -- Disappointing...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just bought this I was excited to buy this for my 2yr old. I know it says 4+ but I got it anyway. He knows his letters already so this allows him to put them into words. I was a little disappointed with the lack of different words. There are so many letters that can't even be used. Also I wish there was a lid for this. The small letters fall out easily. I think I will have to put them into a different container, a shame really because its a nice sturdy wooden box. Regardless of what I think my son loves it. Has not stopped playing with it. I will recommend to friends.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from GOOD BUT COULD BE BETTER IT'S ENTERTAINING BUT VERY MESSY. NEEDS A LID AND A BETTER WAY TO ORGANIZE THE UNUSED LETTERS

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Christmas Gift We have "homework time" because all his older friends have to do homework before they can play. He really gets into it and is beginning to sound out words and recognize letters by name.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like this product Speech Therapist / independent provider, I use this product with grat results, children and parents find it to be entertaining and educational. The one obstacle with this product is that it's wooden case does not have a cover. I have placed my letters in a zip lock bag, and this doesn't allow easy access to letters. Thank You.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Caution little fingers can get stuck! I bought see & spell for my grandaughter and she loves the toy. I had to remove the wooden box that the board and letters are stored in. The box was full and she went to take out a board and her little finger got wedged and stuck between the board and box (not enough room). She was crying and we had to free her finger. The box needs to have more room so the fingers can easily pick up the board. I would only recommend this toy if they re-design the box. Thanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from F-U-N letters and words We were very lucky to inherit this set from my Mom's in-home daycare. The kids there love it, and so do mine. Younger kids like to look at the pictures and learn the words. Then they can learn their letters, and my oldest boy likes to play with it for the spelling!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but Needs a Lid This is a wonderful set and my 3 year old loves naming the letters and saying the sounds as he makes words. HOWEVER, and I have found this with many of these wooden Melissa and Doug toys, this really need a lid. A sliding wooden lid would make it so much easier to store!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Learning Letters I got this last year for my son to help him have fun with learning to read and spell and to help him recognize the letters. He had a lot of fun with it then and my youngest son took over the letters just to help him with recognition. I'm so glad these toys last a long time!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic Learning Tool I saw this puzzle set at my local library and had to have it. I bought it for my 3-year-old and he is already learning all of the words. I am a former teacher and a mother of two and I believe this is a wonderful learning tool for young children. We do the puzzles together and he'll look at my word and tell me, "look, Mom, I have a "t" for you." The hands-on experience is really helping him learn his letters. Like all the previous comments, though, we need more words!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loves it - More words please! My 2 1/2 y/o daughter loves this puzzle. She is very proud of herself for spelling these words. I would love to have another set with more words. Incredible learning tool!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Daughter is 2 an knows all the words She learned all the words within a month! It's a toy she pulls out on her own and has even asked for it first thing in the morning. She knew all the upper case letters and this has helped her lower case letters. She gets frustrated that their is no word for the letter L or M (her favorite letters)I'm going to trace the letters to make more words for her, but would love an expansion kit. Please release more boards.. she can still use this toy well into pre-school!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Need more word boards My 2 1/2 year old son loves this puzzle. He is learning so quickly and now, he's memorized the word puzzles in this kit. It would be great if there are other word boards he can work on - he loves the challenge! :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for early spelling/reading! This is a great toy! My 2 year old loves it and has learned to spell many words with it. It does need a case or a lid though. Still a 5-star toy. Thanks M&D!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Entertaining and Educational Now that my 3 year old granddaughter has learned the alphabet, we are starting to work on simple words. She definitely enjoys identifying the letters as she spells the words. I agree with other reviewers that an expansion kit with more words would be very useful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My daughter is 2 and she knows the words My husband went to get a new set - thinking there were more - and discovered after searching online that there aren't any more. A huge opportunity would be to make more sets so children can continue to learn new words. My daughter is 2 and she is in love with it...loves learning with it. She knows about 80% of all her letters and all of the words in the set.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from i need more words! My 3-year-old son loves this! The only drawback is that he wants more words - M&D please make a kit of extra words!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Terrific for early reading My 2 year old grandson plays with it for hours. It gives him some experience with lower case letters. It helps with small muscle coordination. A lid would be great. A few extra letters would be great, too, especially vowels.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4 YO Grandson played for hours. Very disappointed that there are not enough boards to use all 26 letters of the alaphabet, but it is a very nice learning tool anyway. Disappointed that it does not have a lid to hold the alaphabet letters in the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great learning tool My 3 year old loves this toy. The cool pictures have sparked his interest in learning to spell/read. The only con is that there are only 16 words and as far as I can tell, no expansion kit that can be bought for other words. Melissa and Doug should create more words in this format. I would buy it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautifully Made My son is not interested in this quite yet. The puzzle aspect is not very challenging, and he has known all of his letters at a very young age, so when he starts reading, maybe it will be a better fit for him. The concept is wonderful though. It definitely needs a grooved sliding cover of some sort...it has 64 different small letters that I am afraid of losing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lower Case Letters My 2 year old son loves puzzle and this was a perfect opportunity to introduce lower case letters to him. He gets the b, q, d and p confused because the all look a like but it makes it a challenge for him. It really needs a lid though. There are alot of little letters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool Toy I bought this for my 2 year old. I thought since she spends so much time with her alphabet puzzle she might enjoy this as more of a challenge, but she hasn't took to it quiet yet. I'm sure she will in the next few months.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Daughter loves it My daughter loves it!! I only wish that it had a lid to it. Since there's so many small pieces, a lid would make it easier to store.
