Customer Reviews of Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terribly disappointing! I had one of these as a kid, and loved it. So when my 5-year-old wanted to buy one with his birthday money, my hopes were high. We scooted to Chapters, brought one home... and discovered when we unpacked it that it was already broken in the box. Back to Chapters for an exchange (the staff were terrific) and brought a new one home. I knew my son was young for it, so my hubby and I figured we'd be doing the cranking. He hated the flavour mix that came with it, so we used our own kool aid. He wanted to make one for his sister and a neighbour, too. We started cranking, and on the third one, the crank snapped in two. Terribly, terribly disappointing. They are obviously not making these as well as they used to -- mine lasted for years. This one didn't even last for three sno cones... and it took two attempts to get one that would even do that. Save your money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap garbage This is a cheap piece of junk. The handle falls off every few turns. The flavour crystals were a rock-hard mass that still haven't dissolved an hour later. It's so flimsy that it took us 15 minutes to shave enough ice for half a sno cone. My second child gave up and wandered off without one. My daughter had saved her money to buy this herself, and was in tears the very first use. I was almost in tears, it was so frustrating. We'll be taking it back to the store so she can spend her carefully saved money on something else. I'm really disappointed that Chapters is even carrying such a poor quality item. It seems like something from the dollar store.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed We purchased this for my seven-year-old son for Christmas this year. I had so many fond memories of using this retro toy as I was a child and hoped that my son would enjoy it as much as I had. Unfortunately, the quality of this product is not good at all. The handle for turning to crush the ice snaps off at least every third or fourth turn and has to be clicked back on. Not much fun for the kid when the parent is fixing it the whole time they are trying to make their own snowcones.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk. I don't generally write reviews but I was so disappointed in this item I don't want others wasting their money. This is basically junk to take up space. It takes even an adult way too much time and effort to make even a little bit of ice shaving. After making only enough for a few bites for each of my two girls my hand and wrist were actually hurting. The handle popped off about 5 times in the process. I even used crushed ice from my fridge hoping it would work better but it only helped a little. Next time my girls want shaved ice I'll take out the food processor.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poorly Made Bought this for my son for Christmas, finally started to use it.  The crank handle keeps coming off even when clicked to lock.  Not much shavings for the effort.  What was finally little ice shavings, most melted.  My son did not like the flavouring either.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It was ok. I bought this for my kids (ages 6 and 4) knowing that I'll have to do some of the cranking. The design is not very ergonomically friendly. The handle is way too close to the counter surface. I keep scraping my knuckles on the counter turning the crank. The scoop/opening is also a bit low. It's perfect for the 3 little paper cups that came in the box. But the opening is too low for a small kids cup, and too narrow if I put a bowl underneath. I had to use a silicone muffin cup after my kids finished up the three paper cups. (You would have to get paper dixie cups to put under the opening.) Raising the machine by one inch would have eliminated both of these issues. The paper stickers are also a pain. The machine is meant for ice and water. I have had the sno cone maker for two days and the stickers are already starting to peel off because of the water contact (shavings get on the stickers, the stickers get wet etc.). It also makes it difficult to wash - the snowman syrup container also has a paper sticker. After three washes, the sticker is already partway off. I can do with just wiping the sno cone machine - but I have to wash the syrup bottle. This is purely an aesthetic issue. But if I paid $25 for this, I want the snoopy stickers to stay on longer than 2 days. Having said all of this - my 6yo does enjoy this a lot. He's a bit slow at the cranking, but he has fun doing it, and I guess that's what counts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As good as I remember it The weather outside is frightful.. When I received the Snoopy Snow Cone maker it was around minus 20 Celsius outside, but it did not stop us from making shaved ice and miking in grape and orange juice. It is going to be much more fun for everyone in the family to taste a refreshing treat during summer time, but for now it's a colorful and cheerful decoration that the kids like a lot.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for older kids I purchased this for my daughters (ages 12, 11 and 9). While they liked it--the shaved ice tastes so good on a hot day, especially with Italian soda flavoring--I wouldn't purchase it for children much younger than mine unless you have the time to stand at the counter and crank and crank and crank. It does become rather tedious!
