Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect intro game for people interested in tabletop games! Ticket to Ride is a route building game. You are trying to make connections between various cities across the USA using little plastic train pieces. If you connect all your assigned routes you gain points, but be careful because you lose points for the the routes you can't finish. I always recommend this game when I come across a post online asking what to try first. The rules can be learned in 5 minutes and there is little down time since most player turns take less than a 15 seconds. The rules are simple and clean, the components are bright and colorful. When you first set it up, it just looks interesting right away. I have brought this to family gatherings and played with my younger cousins. Usually the older aunts and uncles ignore what we're doing when playing a game but the one time I brought Ticket to Ride, people were asking "what is this?". It's great as a family game because it doesn't have to be played in a "cut throat" way. Sometimes a person can be blocked from completing a route but there are always alternative paths. In many games I've played people pretty much work on their own routes until the board gets crowded and spaces become scarce, but by then the game is nearly finished. Kids will learn planning skills and simple counting plus the location of various cities (in the US) by observing the board. Ticket to Ride is a solid gateway game for adults and kids, and as a bonus there are other versions buy with maps of Europe, India, Africa, and Asia.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest game ever Well may be Monopoly is better, but this was bought for my daughter so she could have her own copy. Most popular board game in our house for at least 7 years, starting to wear out even with an add-on pack. Wonderful family game for adults and kids from about 10 up, plays in about an hour and is different every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Game This is a great game! Easy to learn, we were playing with no issues within five minutes of opening the box. A 2 to 5 player game plays as well with 2 players as 5. A great family game.
