about

Some people live their entire lives without changing their perspective. For Allison Dennis, all it takes is 180 seconds…

After a life spent bouncing from one foster home to the next, Allison is determined to keep others at arm’s length. Adopted at sixteen, she knows better than to believe in the permanence of anything. But as she begins her third year in college, she finds it increasingly difficult to disappear into the white noise pouring from her earbuds.

One unsuspecting afternoon, Allison is roped into a social experiment just off campus. Suddenly, she finds herself in front of a crowd, forced to interact with a complete stranger for 180 seconds. Neither she, nor Esben Baylor, the dreamy social media star seated opposite her, is prepared for the outcome.

When time is called, the intensity of the experience overwhelms Allison and Esben in a way that unnerves and electrifies them both. With a push from her oldest friend, Allison embarks on a journey to find out if what she and Esben shared is the real thing—and if she can finally trust in herself, in others, and in love.

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Emotional and Hopeful Jessica Park's name sounded familiar when 180 Seconds first popped up on my reading radar. Then I remembered. A while ago I'd read one of her earlier works because of a randomly generated Goodreads recommendation. I recall the emotions I felt from that book so I knew I had to give 180 Seconds a try. It's hard to imagine anything significant being achieved in just a few seconds but that's exactly what happens in 180 Seconds. Lives were forever changed. Right from the beginning you can tell the book will be an intense experience. The story gets very emotional so definitely go into it preparing a few tissues. 180 Seconds delve into some tough issues. As someone who's never experienced anything similar I felt the story touched upon the problems in an adequate and true manner. It's deep and brought out all the emotions. Every part of the story just made you feel- for the characters, for what they go through and for how they pull through. The less you know about the plot the better to experience the good and the bad that life throws at these characters. Allison and Esben had their own share of personal struggles but they tried their hardest to open up in their own way. I loved the balance between them. He never pushed or pried but gave her all the space and time she needed. In turn, she was very gentle with him when he had a hard story to tell. They're relationship goal. Jessica Park is an excellent writer that pens stories that will get your emotions going. I for sure will be picking up her any of her future works. If emotional realistic stories is your cup of tea then 180 Seconds is worth checking out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jessica Park has knocked it out of the park with 180 Seconds! This novel is such a powerful work of art that demonstrates that no matter what, you can keep moving forward and truly find yourself. Esben and Allison are two people who have been dealt some terrible cards in life. They have each suffered through so much in such a short amount of time, that you can't help but feel their pain and sorrow. Despite this, you truly root for them. You want them to succeed and have a happy life, all the while hoping they are able to move forward and deal with the things they have been through. I have never read any other book even remotely similar to this one. All of the subtle elements and details added in by the author, made this novel and absolute must read! Jessica Park has knocked it out of the park with 180 Seconds! I truly hope everyone will pick up this novel. 5/5 Stars!
